Wife and I will be vacationing in Japan 8/17-8/27. We'll be splitting the time in Tokyo and Kyoto. Any suggestions on video game shopping, video game related tours/stuff, etc will be greatly appreciated.

Ask cheapy for some good spot for eating and tourist attractions.

You need to get yourself a hotel near Akihabara, and spend your nights shopping there (going sightseeing elsewhere during daytime).

Oh yeah. As hero said, cheapy can probably give you better cheapass suggestions...

Akihabara is great, but it can be a little intimidating. But just about any used game store (anywhere in the country) would be a fun place to visit, even if their prices are often not fantastic.

As someone who lived in Japan for years, I very seriously doubt that you'd run into that kind of problem, particularly as a foreign tourist. Pepper spraying somebody could get you into trouble, though.

Actually from what I've heard, Akihabara is just an overpriced tourist attraction now and just a shell of what it used to be. You won't find good deals there anymore, just overpriced imports. You need to travel to the outskirts and hit up mom and pop places to find bargains.

nope you can still find bargains, i bought a bunch of stuff for CAGs two years ago.

Definitely go to the main neighborhoods, they all have a nice flair and identity: shibuya, shinjuku, harajuku, etc.

also the yen is weaker now so your dollar will go further, but always avoid a place labled "SNACK" - always.
