I sent my sister out to buy my nephew the latest issue of Game Informer because it has Vader on the cover (he's a Star Wars fan). She went to EBgames and they refused to sell the stand alone issue to her without buying some subscription with an Edge Card or something like that. I'm pretty sure they tried to pull one over on her, or am I mistaken that this is standard practice? BTW, she declined the offer.
I should just buy him a sub. online for $6 or so, but still, this policy sounds out of whack if it's a true policy.

wtf I've never heard of anything like this. You can buy the magazines by themselves for the cover price. Screw that EB.

I'm sure it doesn't happen very often when someone buys it for cover, but I bought 2 or 3 copies at cover once at a gamestop to get buy 2 get 1 free coupons.

Some guy used to come into EB and buy each issue of GMR magazine separately for like $4 cover charge. Every single time he came in we'd say, "Sir, you can subscribe for a year for only $10 and you'll get a discount card" and he'd say no every single time. I have no idea why.

They cant sell single issues any more. Some new policy that started a couple months ago. Its either
a) to get more people to subscribe
or
b) to prevent people from buying the magazine only for the coupon
also, nowhere but gamestop and EB sell GI magazine (or so I have been told).
I just checked amazon, though, and you can purchase the single issues directly from them. here is a link to the issue with vader on the cover
http://www.amazon.com/Game-Informer-March-2007-Issue/dp/B000NJL96M/sr=8-3/qid=1172325548/ref=sr_1_3/105-5432409-5174042?ie=UTF8&s=books
perhaps call to a couple stores just to make sure you cant buy single issues. I am still curious to see if it is 100 percent true myself.

Mother got tired of having to bring subscribed porn magazines down to the basement.

You can buy single issues there. The employ just didn't know how to ring it into the system correctly. Scanning the barcode prompts for a subscription and saying no doesn't put it into the system. They need to use the search function on the computer and look up game informer. After doing that, there is a SKU for game informer (single issue) that is used to sell the issue alone.

Walmart sells them, and YES you can buy single issues of Game Informer. I have done it just to get the coupon.

Check Barnes and Noble, hell even Kroger has the issues by the single issue...

I have seen the magazine at various stores before, sounds like a very stupid policy if you can't buy a stand alone issue. I always see back issues that didn't get sold and they probably just destory them anyways, what a waste.
