I do not have AC, but my house is pretty well insulated. Also, out here in the Bay Area it never gets that hot. (I think its been like 65-75 F this past week, which is a colder than usual though)

I have central air in my parents house, plus I live in the basement, and its cool down here anyway. If you have ceiling fans, make sure you reverse them, so they are sucking air up, not blowing it down. I had 2 ACs in my last apt. One in the living room, one in the bed room. You cant put a price on your comfort.

I know the feeling, before we got our new ac, our old '70s model ac sucked up a lot of energy and my parents were real stifflers about turning it on, usually went most of the summer without it. Considering I live in Georgia, summer nights were made quite miserable, tossing and turning, hot as hell...anyway, I'm glad those days are behind me.

I've gone days at a time when we've had power outages, and it gets over a hundred degrees in the house, and with Florida humidity I just about pass out. I came to appreciate the 78 degrees that my house is constantly kept at.

I live in East Texas where it can get up to 107 degress in the summer. Our old AC crapped out one time after running non-stop for weeks, and just those two days without untill we got a new one was hell. I don't know how you people can stand it. Next, you'll be asking "Does your house have a roof on it?" I thought that all houses had AC. Guess I learned somthing new.

We have central air (to much of a good thing is a bad thing) my dad loves it so much my house never goes over 65 degrees it fells like an ice box I stay out most of the time but when I wake up in the moring I have to sneeze and blow my nose for like the first 10 minutes cause I breathed in all the cold ass air all night it's like being outside in the middle of an canadain winter.

no a/c here in oregon. Nobody has it but the rich it seems, don't really need it except for August, when it gets freaking hot. I used to live in Phoenix, and it is necessary there.

I don't think I could live without central air. Thats like living without a tv, impossible! My aunt and uncle's house has a big wall ac in their living room, but its hot as balls upstairs. I don't know how they live.

My old house didn't. And I live in California. Never got too hot, but in my current house with AC, it gets hot as hell. And unless you're right next to the machine, it doesn't do squat...

I used to work as a carpenter doing manual labor in 100+ degree weather with 100+ percent humidity in West Palm Beach, Florida, so I totally empathize with your hotness trustcompany! I used to fall asleep hugging my air conditioner. Now I don't even want to spoon. Where did we go wrong?!?

Hell yes! In AZ, AC is a way of life. My boss at the comic store doesn't like to turn it on, so any day I'm in, I have to bully him into it. I'm always amused that any time I see a car for sale in a parking lot, especially during the summer, it's almost guaranteed to have written on it "Ice Cold A/C".

No AC in my car at the moment. My birthday present from my Dad was to get it fixed, and my birthday was in June.
NOONE should ever have to experience a TX summer...
I can't wait until QuakeCon in August. People from all over the world come to it every year, and they all ask the same question:
'Why... why... WHY TEXAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GODDAMN SUMMER!?!?!?!"

No, After Coupon.
I have central AC in my house, and always have had it (from CA to MA to NJ). It's a necessity, just like heating is. For those of you without it, this is one thing not to be a cheapass about, especially if you live somewhere with extreme temperatures.

Out of curiosity, why would you do that? I installed a ceiling fan in my hot ass apartment but I have it blowing down...

At first when I saw this topic title I though you ment armor class. I think Ive been playing a little too much Dungeons and Dragons.
My house does have AC, which I am very happy about. I hate how Iowa can get really hot in the summer and really cold in the winter.

I got great Central Air at home but at work I got an AC thats just not working well. When it gots hot and humid it decides NOT to compress and then it just doesnt work. Of course if the temp is about 80-85 then it works great...only when I need it does it suck ass. It's a big 20,000 BTU unit too.
Anyone here into AC repair or know what might be wrong with it?

I don't have AC in my house, but I live in Western PA and the heat doesn't really affect me. My car's AC is ice cold, but who needs that when you've got the windows & sunroof open, and cruising about 90?

We've had central air for about 3 years now. Life was hell before that. I had the hottest room in the houst with a TINY air conditioner to cool that sumbish off. I'm hispanic so I'm already sweaty enough, but that damn thing seemed to make it even worse. But now all is well.
I'm in South Texas. There's ac (not after coupon) throughout pretty much everyhouse here.

Your poll needs more choices. I have AC in this house but it's much too expensive to operate when it's just me here alone. THankfully it's been much milder htan the previous two years. THis time last year I would have been facing severe dehydration from using a PC upstairs if the PC didn't overheat first. I installed my wireless network for exactly this reason.
