That's a fine way to get you to buy Vista.

It was pretty obvious, but I wonder how it'll control.
It took them a long time to get Halo, Halo 2, Jade Empire on PC. MS really wants to push Vista.

I think gears is amazing with 360 controller, and active reload will not be as natural on a keyboard. Of course I have no idea until it comes out whether or not this is true, jus speculation.

They've hinted at this for months. Needless to say, I'm replacing the 360 version of the game with this version since it will inevitably be better. This'll probably have the live-anywhere thing in it too so hopefully I'll still be able to play against people with the Xbox version... otherwise I might have to keep that around.
the pc version of GoW will probably suppor the X360 game pad so it shouldnt be a problem

The PC version will support the 360 controller as all "Games for Windows" must implement use of the 360 controller. I can only assume Gears will be a GFW (I didnt read the article). But in PC Gamer it said games must implement the 360 controller so Im sure Gears will be able to use the 360 controller in the exact same way it works on the 360.

sweeeet finally some good shooters coming out for PC...its all I like playing on the PC, so I'm really glad. Any idea on the specs we'll need for both games or an approximation? If I'm going to get a new comp, which I am, I might as well make it good enough right away for these two titles I'm bound to get.

Thats cool. Assuming I can obtain Vista for a decent price I may have to get it.

Meh... 360>Pc not to mention better on the hands. And finally :gasp: do I dare say GoW is kinda old news. RSV > GoW atm.

Fine, so ignoring the better graphics (and not just on top-end PCs), you do realize that you can use the 360 controller for PC games and it automatically configures itself, right? And while GoW isn't old news, if you want to argue that RSV is better... well, that's also been on the PC for months now.

Not very exciting.
A sad day when the PC crowd gets hyped up over getting a 360 port, presumably a year after the 360 already has it since I'm betting we won't see this until November 2007 at least.
I remember when the PC was on the cutting edge of everything... now it seems as if Microsoft is trying to make the PC / 360 interchangable. PC Gaming sure has fallen a long way... at least imo. I was going through some of my older PC games and it brought me back to a time when the PC was on top of everything.
Oh well... just need my PC for WoW and Sims 2, along with the once a year game that actually stays on the PC (this year, it looks like Stalker).

This is big news for me since I want to play GOW but have no 360. I'm going to build a PC in the next year anyway, so I can play it now.

I was going through some of my older PC games and it brought me back to a time when the PC was on top of everything. It wasn't too many years ago that I game almost exclusively on the PC. It had better graphics, better games, etc.
Now, I haven't touched a true PC game since Half-Life 2, and before that I don't remember what I really played. PCs are fantastic if you like MMORPGs or WWII FPS games, but I don't really care for either thus I don't game anymore. Not to mention gaming on a PC is still very expensive. I was reading an article not too long ago about a new video card that was roughly the cost of a PS3. That makes me sick to my stomach.

Sheeit, boyo. You won't see Halo 2 until November 2007; this has June 2008 written all over it.

Halo 2's scheduled for May 8th, 2007. I wouldn't be surprised to see Gears out this year.

My mistake.
2.5 years from Xbox to PC is quite the transition time. Without any knowledge of the technical side of things, I don't imagine seeing GoW make a 12-month transition in that case. Could be apples/oranges, though.

Part of it is that MS waited a long time to announce Halo 2 as a PC game so that the Xbox had an exclusive to its name and then MS wanted to wait even longer so that they could put the game out as a Vista title to spur sales... obviously, 2.5 years is ridiculous for a port. With Gears, it took them only a few months to announce it, MS is going to want as many games as they can get this fall to support the Games for Windows thing now that they have Vista out, and Epic's been planning to put the game on PC for quite some time... so I can't see it taking anywhere near as long as Halo 2 did.
most third parties are able to release their games on X360 and PC around the same time. MS just painfully slow with their ports. Plus Epic Games also have a lot of experience with PC.

what is the funniest thing about this is, you will most likely need a 200 dollar direct x 10 at the time of release to play this game near the level of xbox 360, or even more expensive card to enjoy the sharper textures "it may have". So why not stick with whatever older computer setup you have and just take the video card and buy an xbox360? And in a few years you will be able to sell/trade the xbox 360 version on this board to close to 10 dollars in value or have a pc game no one will want. I have a bunch of fairly new pc titles that I cann't trade or sell to anyone.

RTS?
RTS, MMORPG, strategy games like Civilization (I guess turn based games in general)... these will always be the best on the PC.
PC was awesome for RPG's a few years ago too.

It's still the best place for western RPGs... by a mile. And for the most part, even those games that are multiplatform are far better on the PC even without the latest hardware.

It will never be as good as the early Bioware / Black Isle / Diablo 2 days though... never again.

It'd be nice to get Mass Effect on the PC... preferably not one of those Jade Empire SE type deals where we have to wait 2 years though...

I definately agree, I think it would be nice if we could have by the holidays, although THAT is dreaming right there.
