NOTE: Hello. I decided to start a weekly DS-related article for some gaming union I belong to, and although it's nothing spectacular, I thought you might like it, and if you do I can continue to post them every Friday. Please PM me your feedback!

---

Hello everyone and welcome to DS Weekly. I am your host, sergioalb64.

I could start by describing myself to you and giving you a quick run-down of my life, but time is upon me, and I would rather describe what you should expect from this weekly article instead, and perhaps leave my mini-biography for next week.

What is DS Weekly? It’s a Friday article on anything and everything Nintendo DS-related; and I do mean everything. Reviews, discussions, speculation and retrospectives; DS Weekly is every DS fan’s Readers Digest. Every subject will eventually be talked about, every worthy game mentioned, every history revisited. But most importantly, DS Weekly is what you make it be; I will discuss the many ways in which you can interact later in this article. For now, let’s talk about…

DS-related news from this year’s Game Developer’s Conference. A few surprises have arised, and although nothing spectacular, they’re still worth mentioning. Here’s a run-down of the major news, in no particular order:

DS Opera Browser coming to the US on June 4th
Yes indeed; after almost a year of its Japanese release, the Nintendo DS Opera Web Browser is making its way to North America. The ‘game’ comes with a DS cartridge and a RAM pack that goes in your DS’s (or DS Lite’s) GBA slot, and allows you to surf the internet…with some restrictions. There is no sound, video, PDF, or Flash support, and according to numerous reports, the speed of browsing is quite slow. Surely a nice surprise, but hopefully Nintendo will tweak the browser a bit to make it more operational.

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass hands-on
GameSpot, along many other sources, have given us hands-on views on the multiplayer found in Link’s newest adventure for the DS, set to release during this year’s holiday season. Phantom Hourglass’s multiplayer works like this: two players, Blue Link and Red Link, take turns collecting Force Gems and bringing them to their respectively-colored bases. The player who is not controlling Link takes over three guards that will try to attack Link, and if they succeed, the player controlling the guards now takes control of the legendary Hero of Time, ready to collect Force Gems. This happens for three 2-minute turns, and whoever has the most Force Gems wins. Everything is controlled with the stylus, and according to DS Fanboy, the controls seem a bit “clunky and imprecise”. Let’s hope, as they do, that Nintendo works on what needs to be done to deliver a masterpiece in dual-screened gaming.

DS guitar simulator coming to US
The recently-released Japanese ‘game’ Hiite Utaeru DS Guitar M-06 (M-06 for short) will be released in the US by Ubisoft this June, and will be titled Jam Sessions. This game allows players to strum virtual guitar strings using the DS touch screen and stylus. The game seems to be updated from the Japanese version, but no more details are known. Certainly a nice addition to guitar players out there.

Ouendan 2 announced!
Ouendan fans, rejoice! The sequel to 2005’s crazy import game Ossu! Tatakae! Ouendan is being worked on and expected to release later this year in Japan. You might know this game as Elite Beat Agents, the English version of the title released last November. If you’re not familiar with either of them, imagine a rhythm game in which you tap the DS touch screen with rhythm, following a path of numeric sequences inside like-colored circles. It’s tons of fun and very addictive, and certainly worth an import; remember, any DS can play any DS game, from anywhere in the world.

Planet Puzzle League announced for DS
The popular puzzle game with many different names…
1 – Tetris Attack (SNES, GB)
2 – Pokemon Puzzle League (N64)
3 – Pokemon Puzzle Challenge (GBC)
4 – Dr. Mario / Puzzle League (GBA)
…will be relased in Japan this April and in America this June 4th. The game will feature sideways play a la Brain Age and will utilize the touch screen for controls, and will even feature worldwide Wi-Fi play! Puzzle fans, look out!

Well, I hope you enjoyed the first edition of DS Weekly. Certainly, I didn’t have enough time to make this what it can be; I would’ve loved to add ascreenshots and links to game trailers, but these things will start to appear in the near future if the article is successful enough, I promise.

As I said earlier, you, the reader, are the most important part of this weekly article, and you can contribute to it in many ways. PM me your suggestions and comments; feedback is welcome and greatly appreciated. You can also submit questions in a mailbag-like portion of the article, which will be answered every week. And you can submit future article ideas or suggestions, too; anything goes, as long as it’s DS-related.

Hopefully you enjoyed this article and continue to support it. Remember to check back here every Friday for a freshly-typed new issue of DS Weekly, and remember…

I'd read them if you posted them here every week (assuming something actually happens each week with the DS).

I agree, this is a great idea. I usually follow the news every day during the week, but this is excellent for people who don't, and just to make sure that any news didn't manage to slip by during the week unnoticed.
