Anything from AVI to WMV to even DVD's via nero showtime or windows media player shows nothing but corrupt video when playing, but audio is ok. Quicktime movies play fine. Is there a site out there that has most video codecs in which I can reinstall and fix it?

thanks.

First off try downloading and playing the files and discs in VLC player. It runs nearly everything.

If you just want codecs then look into the newest version of the K-Lite codec pack.

I've tried VLC as well, it's showing the same problems. Basically no video accept some red to what seems to be highlighted areas of the image.

Try doom9.net if you haven't already. Also I think if you install multiple copies of the same codec things can start to mess up (i.e. installing xvid from a codec pack then installing it from an xvid installer). Anyway just saying becareful, but you can always uninstall stuff.

OK........ I think I narrowed down the problem.

I've been playing BF2142 A LOT these past few weeks, like 4-7 rounds a day. It would seem that after I take a break and fire up any non qt videos, bam that's when video is all screwy. It would seem those EA intro videos that you can't skip in the beginning of 2142 (before the main movie) seem to be fucking up everything :(

So work around, reboot after 2142 if I want to watch a dvd or screw around with video :P

I got an idea. Try this.

Ok so first find the movie files for BF 2142. For BF2 they are in

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Movies

So it should be something similar.

See the files called EA.bik, legal.bik and the rest?

Take the ones that you want to skip and move them somewhere. Then open notepad and save a empty file as one of the movie files. For instance:

Move EA.bik
open notepad
Go to file then save as
Save as EA.bik

Do this for any files you want.

What it will do is simply skip the file in the intro process.

I did this with another EA game, NFSU2. They all use the same format. And in the case that something does not work simply place the files back.

This should clear your problem if it is indeed caused by those movies.

Edit: On a side note, I do not think you should mess with the files called menu.bik or any with the word menu in them. If BF 2142 has them that is. I do not know how the menu will respond to not having the files. But you can try, worst case scenario is a program crash. And you can always reverse it.

Oh and one more thing, this will in no way affect any gameplay, if it did not change from BF2 then EA does not check these files for consistency and they really should not have any reason to do so.

Let me know how it works out.
