I'm sure its not a bad game or anything, but lets remember that it isnt entirely selling on its own merits.

Hardware Sales Reactions: Sony: "According to NPD data, February 2007 showed a 67% increase in retail dollars generated year-over-year for SCEA in the US with total sales of $377 million. With this increase, the PlayStation brand remained the number-one revenue driver for the month in the industry owning 38.5% of total sales. On the retail front, SCEA continues to work hard to stabilize supply for PS3 and PS2 across North America. A short month was reflected in PS3 and PSP sales figures over January, while PS2 continues to perform above expectations, down just 4.3% from last year. PS2 dominated software sales for the industry, generating $111 million in revenue.
Coming off the heels of GDC, there is much enthusiasm for upcoming games and services for PS3. With the announcement of 'HOME' and 'LittleBigPlanet' and the recent release of the much-anticipated 'MotorStorm,' consumer enthusiasm for PS3 continues to build. Excitement for PS2 also remains incredibility strong, helped by the release of 'God of War II' earlier this week, which sold-in more than 1 million units at retail. It was also announced recently that the 'God of War' franchise would soon be heading to PSP."The fact that PS2 sales were only down 4.3% compared to this time last year is amazing, but the goofy positive spin is comparing revenue (shockingly, selling 130k * $600 is more than however many PS2s they sold at $150 last year).

The PS2 just keeps trucking along just out of the 360's reach.

Pretty solid sales the 360 and phenomenal sales for the Wii. Hell, to get one for my cousin we had to go the Ebay route because nobody in town has had any stay in-stock for more than 30 minutes once they arrive. One GC hasn't even had any for two months.

Boo. Not that we'll ever know, but I dont think there wouldve been a significant drop off for Wii Play by itself for a modestly priced $10-20. It may have even done better as a matter of units sold but without the tastiness of forced bundle profits.
I certainly dont have the same degree of doubt about how well Crackdown wouldve done by itself.

Those are decent sales numbers for Sonic and VF5 considering they were only out for eight days in February.

Looks like VF5 didn't do much for the ailing PS3.
The original xbox was doing better in its first months than the PS3 has been. Not a good sign. Not a good way for PS3 fans to spin this at all, fortunately. Hopefully this means we see less exclusives for Sony, so we can play more games without having to spend $500-600 on a PS3 this generation.
The way software is selling on 360 and inversely NOT selling on PS3 is a sure sign to publishers where to put their software, too.

Months from launch (total)
Not TOO dificult to spin ;).
The difference in Nov and Dec can be attributed to shortages, it outsold the Xbox1 in Month 3 (January) and was just short in February.

this isn't too surprising. Parents are buying GBAs for their kids still and there was no motivation to purchase a PS3 in February unless you're a huge VF fan.

I still can't find a Wii anywhere. My mom wants to get one for the grandkids to play. Target had some last week but I was told they sold out in an hour. I thought they would be more readily available by now. I jokingly told my mom to buy a PS3 since there were 6 sitting there at Target and she just laughed at the $600 price tag. I think the "ceiling" for game system prices has been reached. I've supported Sony during the last 2 generations but I'll be getting a 360 before a PS3 this time and I didn't buy an xbox last generation.
Interesting sales, but you have to wonder who the 480 people that bought Xboxs are.

Is that the original or 360 you are comparing it to? If these are the original Xbox numbers I'd be interested in seeing 360 numbers if you have them.

The only problem with this "data" is that there was a huge shortage of 360's up until about March last year (if not later). The same can't be said of the PS3 now.
(I'm not picking on you specifically Tanuki ;) )

Microsofts fault they couldn't keep up with demand, PS3 is 50k ahead because Sony was able to.
No one's fault but MS's and they don't deserve that as an excuse.

No one's fault but MS's and they don't deserve that as an excuse.Very true. The same is to be said for Nintendo. If they had Wiis flooded into stores, just think of how many they could've sold by now. They're to the point now that shortages are hurting them rather than just fueling the hype fires. Still, impressive numbers for a system that can't be found.
EDIT: Also interesting that the DS is doing almost Japan-like numbers over here.

Yeah, except that there's still tens of thousands of PS3s on store shelves. There's no telling how many 360s would have sold this time last year had MS has the units on the shelves as PS3 does this month. So, the bottom line is that the PS3 supply far exceeds the demand, so, Sony has no excuse, either. I think selling less units, but maxing out the supply and selling every unit, rather than selling about ~20 percent more units, but still having massive supply left over, is much better in hindsight, and in terms of the system's future, at the time.
Sony is hurting. BAD. Only a fool would deny this. There are problems with the rest of the year for Sony, as well. GTAIV being on 360, and being superior on 360, is a nightmarish prospect for them. They can bank on Ratchet and Clank, but they also have the farm bet on MGS4. If Konami goes crossplatform, Sony may as well just pack up and hibernate until 2008, and hope things are better then. And trailing behind Nintendo, who they had dismissed as a non-threat this generation, and being outsold over 3-to-1 by the Wii (the same exact figure applies for the PSP versus the DS), which would have sold even more units were it not for the shortage, is massively embarrassing, and they are absolutely ashamed, and thusly totally avoid commenting on the subject. They repeat that they're confident that they'll take number one again, but that would be a hell of a stunt at this point.
It's just a joke, now. I'm so happy how things are going. Sony will finally have to be content to be in third, and learn how to manage themselves the runner-up, as the "niche" console, even.
