A friend of mine wrote a book called "Saving General Washington" about the Founding Fathers and the way their words and legacies are used and abused by contemporary politicians. It's been remaindered at Amazon and is now available for $4.99 -- perfect if you need some filler to make Super-Saver Shipping status.

Check it out -- it's good writing, and an ideal gift for any fan of politics or American history.

I don't know...I'm a great admirer of George Washington, but the the entire review of the book was dedicated to ultra-liberal viewpoints, stereotypes and (worst of all) rhetoric. Basically I went into looking at the Amazon page with a viewpoint that agreed with your statement about the Founding Fathers being mischaracterized/abused by contemporary politicians of all political viewpoints and left feeling it was just another ultra-liberal hit job on Bush/Republicans.

I think the whole "ignorance is bliss" saying goes a long way in politics. Dig deep enough and you can find something to hate about anyone, even those you admire.
