View Full Version : Please help! Very weird 360 problem I've never heard of before.

Earlier I was watching a DVD in my 360 when all of a sudden the screen froze and all these static-greenish squares appeared all over the screen and the speakers on my TV started blaring a very loud screechy-static noise. I turned the console off then took out the disk and looked at the bottom of it and there was this weird, wavy color distortion; (different shades of silver). I didnt get the red lights though. So I just disregarded the whole incident and assumed the DVD just screwed up of something.

Then, just now, I put in Gears of War and was waiting for a match to start when the same thing happened. There was no distortion on the bottom of the disk this time though, and I'm still not getting the red lights.

Can anybody tell me what might possibly be wrong? I'm assuming I'm gunna have to send it in to Microsoft again for the third time this year. I'm really getting sick of this.

*Update*

Just tried playing Gears of War again. Everything seemed fine, but then the screen just went black. The console was still running, there just wan't a picture. I turned it off, then turned it back on again and I got the green squares before I even got to the dashboard. Still no red lights.

Well even without red lights that doesn't mean the system isn't dead. Have you tried other games?

No. But it's been happening even without games in it.

It sounds like the video card is pooping out on you. Grrr and the shitty build of the 360.

Sounds more like a problem with the disc drive.

I hope it's still under warranty?

*sigh* Ok...

It better still be under warrenty. Didn't they just change all the warrenties to a year recently? If so, I should be ok. But they did screw up my warrenty the first time I called. It took over a week just for them to realize my warrenty hadn't expired. I'm not looking forward to that whole process again.

Well, looking on the bright side, I've beaten all my 360 games, so it won't be too bad... I guess....

I vote for a GPU or CPU issue too. Probably just a coincidence that the first disc had that pattern on the bottom (since the same thing is happening in all situations).

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. My launch 360 was doing the same exact same thing about 2 weeks ago, and last night it finally got the 3 red lights (hardware failure). When it does that static thing, your screen looks like something from "The Matrix" movies right (at least mine did when it was green)? I didn't think much of it at the beginning, but in about 2 weeks later it was down for the count. Good thing it's still protected under my BB 2 year PRP, so I'll most likely wait for the updated version.

You can try unplugging everything and cleaning all the plugs with an air duster and q-tips. Doing this kept it alive for some time, but didn't prevent the inevitable 3 red lights of death. I'm not sure what to make of it, but from what I've experienced, it's only a matter of time until your 360 eventually breaks down. Hopefully I am wrong though. Good luck.

It's one: vid card (GPU) is failing.

Two: connections (wires) are failing.

Probably the first, good thing you were smart and bought a warrantee.
