Major Nelson just posted on his mini-blog (his reg. site is getting pounded) that he has a Surprise in store for us late tonight. Now I am wondering what that could be.

X-men Arcade Game on XBL arcade!
A boy can dream can't he?
I don't think its the HDD or the elite because he's intelligent enough to know that's not much of big surprise anymore PLUS he's the XBL community guy, he probably wouldn't be the one to break the news about hardware.

Elite and Halo 3 beta!
My sources tell me the maintenance is to prepare for the massive downloading strain that the Halo 3 beta will put on the servers.
So, the Halo 3 beta might not be available immediately, but the maintenance is Halo 3 related.

Gotta announce the Elite first as it isn't exactly the best kept secret. If it's Halo then who's coming back tomorrow night? Per Hitchcock, the Elite's not a surprise nor suspenseful in any way so give them a teaser but leave the bigger surprise for later and that lead character Master Chief is pretty suspenseful. It just makes sense to leave the biggest surprise for the 2nd night and give the smallest one on the first night. So if it's Halo tonight and Elite tomorrow most people will feel gipped on the 2nd night. Then again maybe it's a new Britney Spears game entitled BS: My game of life. Maybe a spinner to determine the outcome... baby, rehab, no panties, party, marry, divorce, make album.
Here's my plea: an xbox live arcade version of the original crazy taxi with online multiplayer.

The new Xbox 360 Elite will sell for $479.99. Consumers who already own the $399.99 20-gigabyte model will be able to buy a snap-on 120-gigabyte hard drive for $179.99.
Talk about making a profit off of original adopters. I could trade in my 360 and add $180 and just get the new 360.

I agree. If the Elite is the "major" announcement it will be a huge letdown unless it retails for less than the rumored $479. OR if there is a trade-up option for early adopters. Everyone already knows about this, and isn't really something that needs to be hyped. A simple press release during the day would suffice.
I also doubt it is the Halo 3 beta... at least tonight. All the people that are in via Bungie's methods need codes. Codes that have not been sent out yet. It would be unfair to let all the Crackdown users to get a jump on everyone else who got in on the Beta.
I'm thinking that maybe they did secure a couple exclusives. Maybe they locked down Rockstar for a GTA IV complete exclusive, or maybe MGS, FF, or some other high profile title. Partnering up or purchasing Capcom would also be huge. Those would be "major" announcements.

$180 is way too much for a 120 GB hard drive. Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136072) has this 2.5" 120 GB SATA 5400 RPM hard drive (the exact same kind as the 360 hard drive) for $85. Microsoft would buy hard drives in bulk so I'm sure they pay less for their hard drives.
lanzarlaluna

Worst kept suprise ever. Agreed. Microsoft is either really crappy at keeping secrets or they just let them out under the guise of being "leaked." I recall fondly the pictures of the 360 that showed up before the official unvealing.
Also, $179 for the 120GB HDD is fucking stupid. It's like they just want early adopters to unload their systems for the Elite.
As for me, I'm hoping the original units see some sort of price drop. That's why I'm excited for the new units.
trunksx34
03-28-2007, 12:20 AM
179.99 for the HD is insane.
It's just a freakin SATA drive. Frys has a 500GB one every week for $140ish+tax. Even if the drive itself is a notebook form factor or whatever, the markup on this thing must be really high.
I'm hoping that the Black color will not be limited, and they'll offer a Black Core package for existing owners. Otherwise I will probably pass on the Elite...it'll mess up the color coordination with the HD-DVD drive anyway :)

He probably means upgrading from an existing 360 to the Elite. I would probably buy a PS3 also since my 360 works fine on it's own. I don't need 100GB extra or HDMI.

Agreed. One of the "major" selling points for a lot of people was that the 360 was essentially as powerful as a PS3 except it was much cheaper.
But with this, why not pay the extra $20 and get a PS3? (Especially since with that system you can swap the drive easily, and for a lot less when compared with 360's 120GB.)
EDIT: And I am talking to those that are going to "upgrade" to this model. If you had never owned a 360 before, this wouldn't be a bad option...I guess. It'd still be too expensive for me.

Let me know where you can find a 20GB PS3 since most stores no longer carry them and Sony has all but phased them out due to 'customer demand' of the 60GB. Stop holding onto the price of a $500 PS3 when they are not available to purchase.

Worst announcement ever. I have to agree with Luke Smith on this one. This has to be the biggest fuck up by MS yet. They have Sony by the balls and decide to release a system about the price as the PS3 without HD playback. wtf
I can't believe all the people chomping at the bit to get this thing at that price. Especially on a site dedicated to cheap asses. If this retails for more than the Premium, everyone should shun it at tell MS to shove it. Let it rot on the shelves next to the PS3s.

As much as I love my 360....anyone who cares that much about an HDMI input and a huge hard drive [for a console that doesn't install its games] is better off with a PS3. The $120 gets you Wi-FI, Blu-Ray, memory card slots built in, and [if black on a 360 is noteworthy] a chrome detailing
The Elite 360 still needs a $100 add on [Wi-Fi] a $10 memory card reader [if you buy a regular one, a 360 branded one costs $30] and a $200 HD-DVD player to be on the same technical level as the PS3. Making a fully equipped 360 Elite $800 before tax.
Oh my, it really does sound like cars.
Another question is, what cable will the elite 360 come with?
Will it come with the component A/V, the composite A/V, or a Microsoft branded HDMI cable? Will the HDMI cable be Microsoft 360 only or will it be a standard HDMI port? If it uses a regular HDMI cable, where will you get the optical hook up from? Will there be a built in optical port like on the PS3/PS2 or will you have to have the component hooked up at the same time as the HDMI so that you can use the optical cable for sound? If it doesn't support optical except via component hook up, will the 360 pass the sound through HDMI to a receive [1.3 spec] and does that mean it'll support Dolby Digital/DTS via HD? Also, will it finally upconvert DVD outside of VGA mode?
It's one big mistake and makes no sense.

I think that a real Surprise announcement would have been the "Xbox 360 USB Blu-Ray Drive" at $150 with the HD-DVD drive dropped to $150. That would be giving the consumers a true choice, and it would go a long way negate the whole ps3 as a blu-ray trojan horse thing.

I'm with those who don't quite understand this move. As previously mentioned, Microsoft all but has Sony by the throat at this point, and this isn't going to do anything to help them. Release it at $399 and include a game (or hell, advertise it with the Halo 3 beta), or include the HD-DVD add-on--they're not doing anything but making a PS3 look like a more viable option for the money.
Now is certainly not the time to get arrogant and/or stupid.

MS is overconfident now.......the price is approaching PS3 instead of lowering it to further downplay sony. In the long run, this is bad for us consumer, where the next next gen system could rearch $500+ area and game price keep moving toward $60+.
Can't believe MS drop the ball here, other than AV hardcore xbox fan, who else gonna buy this $470. I think the only thing keep the PS3 unpopular is its price range. Now, if someone want to plunge down $500, why not get the PS3 instead and for the one that don't want to pay that much... they'll go with the wii (if they haven't already) since they probably gonna expect the premium or the elite price to come down... wow just wow! $470 for the soup up premium minus Wifi or HD-DVD. This isn't exactly a new trend or anything, typically after 1 and a half to 2 years after a system comes out you see a price drop, in this case first you're going to see an upgrade and then probably a small price drop. You have to expect these things when you're an early adopter in the videogame market, but as a tradeoff you've gotten to play Dead Rising, Oblivion, Lost Planet, Gears of War etc. long before the people who are willing to wait a couple of years for the upgraded models and price drops.

I think it just alienates many of your supporters. I bought my console day 1 not knowing that HDMI was coming in the future... hell, I didn't even know about 1080p (nice surprise, but my VGA cable makes the colors look washed out). So HDMI would help me out a lot.
I don't think it is about begging. I think it is about setting the standard and being the best. If you don't want the features, fine... But for those that do, give them the option to have them at a cheaper rate... If they would have done that, there would be no question who cared more about their consumers and it would help them in the long run of "the console warz."
Bottom line, if I knew that this "Elite" version was coming from the start, I would have waited...

Bottom line, if I knew that this "Elite" version was coming from the start, I would have waited...
It will be 18 months since the 360 launched until this one is released. You would have waited that long had you known about an HDMI port?
Lets not even go into the 10 different PS2 revisions it had over its lifetime (which is not even done yet!).

The HDD means nothing to a modded 360. No games can be stored on it. Modding is simply a DVD hack that lets you play burned games. The 120 HDD is great for downloading TV shows on and the eventual IPTV.
Gotcha. Well in you're case an "Elite 360" should be fairly affordable with all that saved money from stealing games ;)

THANK GOD! That looks like the best solution possible!
Standard HDMI port and a versatile audio pack.
Now these questions remain
HDMI 1.1 or 1.3?
Upconvert DVD over HDMI?
Data Transfer cable bundled?
Upgrades to firmware for elite? [meaing upgrades for premium eventually?]
Data transfer cable will be included, no word on whether the audio breakout cable is included (probably is).

At the moment I think the whole increase hardrive size and cooler color are more important to most people right now.
True on the color... But they did give you an option of upgrading the hard drive for $180 which still is an option.
If HDMI is important to you, then you are screwed.

yea i definatly agree with you zion, i love my 360 its been a blast, and i did expect an upgraded version, i think the thing that hurts the most is the hdd
because now i know i'll be throwing down $179 dollars for 120 gig hd
Yeah that's the part that really hurts, I'm probably going to wait until I see downloads that will be worthy of that amount of space, maybe we'll get lucky and someone will start discounting the 120gb drives in the fall.;)

yes I would have waited. I have tons of games I haven't even touched from previous generations. Now... maybe I'm missing something but is there something the PS2 phat cannot do that the PS2 Slim can?
Online - can buy a separate adapter...
Ports - actually the PS2 phat has more ports because it has firewire (was hardly used, but it is there)
480p - with component cables, works on both...

I like the bullshit answer on why the HDD is $179. Basically they said a self-powered, external 2.5" drive is close to that price. Bullshit. Looking at newegg I see multiple drives that fit those specs for ~$100.

i'm debating on getting one. I've wanted a 360 for a long time now. I actually got one at launch that I reserved andf was going to keep it but when I went to visit my friends who camped out overnight at best buy (to jokingly mock them) some guy who was there offered me $900 cash for mine and it was as good as gone.
Regardless I'm hoping that ebay will be flooded with them and I can a premium on the cheap. I just need the 20gb hard drive for a few XBLA games.
Do you think we'll see a huge influx of used 360s and any predictions on what hte prices will be around?
I'm a little concerned about having the thing break down on me and not having a warranty but if the prices go down dramatically I wouldn't mind
...I'm feeling bad for that guy who shelled out $900 for that launch 360 I had:cry:

I'm not talking about the PS2 Fat vs. PS2 Slim. I'm talking about the numerous additions the PS2 went through. Progressive Scan, built-in IR Port, etc. Of course they were never priced MORE then the current PS2 price, but an additional 100GB of space and an HDMI port is not cheap.

The only people who are pissed off are ones who bought this product without knowledge of the elite's existance.
I do not regret my decision in buying a 360, and MY 360 IS JUST AS FUNCTIONAL AS IF THIS HAD NEVER BEEN ANNOUNCED.
If you don't want this to exist, it doesn't have to. Block it out of your mind.
For the rest of us, we will have to consider whether this upgrade is worth our money.
No one bought a premium 360 expecting this to come out. If you did, why would you complain?
The only thing that sucks out of this announcement is the relatively high cost of the hdd for the rest of us. When put into perspective, I don't know if MS had any choice but to release it at this price because of the price of the 20 gig. I still think they should have created vouchers for those who have the 20 gigs. Like a 30 dollar MIR with your UPC.
EDIT: I forgot to add, HDMI is a pure digital connection. The current 360s are incapable of displaying an analog signal with HDCP over this digital connection. Theres no switch on the back to magically make it work.

480p DVDs... ok, I can see that for some people. But the phat came out before the slim. So, the upgrade removed some features. But if you bought it initially, there would be no reason to upgrade.
And to my knowledge, the HDD was only used on a handful of games. I believe most to all 360 games would benefit from 1080p or a larger hard drive.

Full figured PS2 goes up to 10 versions and each has two to three revisions. Slim PS2 is much the same way. What is worse is that SONY never made people aware of it except for HUGE updates. Only the modding scene really knows much about the revisions.

480p DVDs... ok, I can see that for some people. But the phat came out before the slim. So, the upgrade removed some features. But if you bought it initially, there would be no reason to upgrade.
The PS2 went through 10 different revisions. Each one improving from the last.
"Three of the original PS2 launch models were only sold in Japan, and lack the Dev9 expansion port of current PS2 models. These versions were SCPH-10000, SCPH-15000 and SCPH-18000. These included a PCMCIA slot instead of the Expansion Bay (DEV9) port of newer models. A PCMCIA to Dev9 adapter was made available for these models. SCPH-10000 and SCPH-15000 did not have a built-in DVD player and instead relied on an encrypted player that was copied to a memory card from an included CD-ROM (normally, the PS2 will only execute encrypted software from its memory card, but see PS2 Independence Exploit). V3 has a substantially different internal structure from the subsequent revisions, featuring several interconnected printed circuit boards. As of V4 everything was unified into one board, except the power supply. V5 introduces minor internal changes and the only difference between V6 (sometimes called V5.1) and V5 is the orientation of the Power/Reset switch board connector, which was reversed to prevent the use of no-solder modchips. V7 and V8 are also similar. Assembly of the PS2 moved to People's Republic of China with the V9 (model number SCPH-50000/SCPH-50001), which added the Infrared port for the optional DVD Remote control, removed the FireWire port, added the capability to read DVD-RW and +RW discs, added progressive-scan output of DVD movies, and a quieter fan. V10 and V11 have minor changes."

And I think there lies the problem. It is a very expensive upgrade because you have to buy a whole new console for all the features. Last time I checked, this was CHEAP ass gamer. But that also is beyond the point.
I know I'm pissed and will not buy another console from Microsoft because of this and it seems that pimp may have some issues buying this as well. Does Microsoft owe us anything? No. But if they were in such a battle to try and be the top, I think they should offer alternatives for people that supported them from the start.
Even their Windows Operating System gives you the option of upgrading at a reduced package (although it is software), but still at least they give you something.
Now, if Playstation were doing something like this, would you defend them the same way or talk about how much they screwed their consumers?

I'm sorry, your just a moron if your pissed that Microsoft released a revision to there system 18 months after release. Nintendo has done it nearly every generation (Nintendo, Super Nintendo, GameCube, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, DS) and Sony has done it with both the Playstation and Playstation 2. Expect it soon with the PSP as well. Your not gonna buy another Sony or Nintendo system again....right? Lets not even get into the fact that the PS3 has now removed the Emotion Chip from all PS3s. So some of these revisions were to block modchips...
Now, if Sony makes a revision to their console that has meaning to me and is not upgradeable, then yes, I will be saying the same stuff on the Sony boards! If Nintendo does the same, then yes, I will be on the Nintendo boards. Problem is... although many of you produce valid arguments (which I have given credit to), is this going to get HDMI on my 360? Can I buy a port to upgrade my existing 360? Yet, although PS3 has their faults... it is on their console. Packed in cable or not, you can buy it separately. Like I said in the beginning... PS3 looks better and better.

Microsoft should see how obvious is is that people want lower priced systems (look at the Wii's success) and pull away from Sony with a $300 premium and $400 Elite model.

Apple Ipod... Don't give a shit...
However, let's total up the systems I do have and look at the prices the new consoles were released at...
DS Lite = $129 I believe
PS2 Slim = $199 when it originally came out, correct me if I'm wrong.

Total for all 3 - $438. Upgrading to Microsoft elite - $480.

I do agree with you on the upgrade costs though, I didn't mind upgrading to a DSL because it was only $130, and I shaved off $50 of that thanks to trading in my DS.

Is anyone else not that mad because:
A. They don't care too much about the HDMI because they think component looks pretty damn good as it is
and
B. They haven't filled up their 20 gig HD at all yet (and it's really only a 12 gig HD)
I'm mad because I want a BLACK 360. That thing looks sexy as hell.
I agree. To me HDMI is not prevalent enough yet to warrant the kind of mass frenzy it seems to be creating and component works fine for me. I've been looking for a new audio setup including a receiver and it's really hard to find a nice, decent price HDMI switching receiver. My TV is not large enough nor are my eyes trained enough to see any difference so HDMI is just a nice bonus to me b/c I do like the one cable mentality. And yes I'm 6GB short of max but that's only because I've got demos I should delete and have never played or the original videos that came with it as I find Warren Miller just nice to watch from time to time. Now if I could re-download those videos again I'd have even more space.
What I really want for now is the black b/c and I quote "DAMMMMMN" just like black dreamcast.
No true hardware(working components of the console) upgrade=$0 from me. Besides we all know this will become available on the pro for cheaper and hardware upgrades too at a later date so for now I'm happy. Hopefully when the upgrades do come, MS will ship several colors of the console so I can get a black one.
What puts me off about the whole podcast was that he encourages people to delete and re-download when you feel like playing again. Well sometimes I just want to power up my console and play a little geometry wars without having to go through the marketplace and the download time. And whatever happens if our download history is "misplaced" and we dont have physical copies of what we've downloaded. I agree that 20 GB is the sweet spot but only if all 20 are available and not overly interested in the media marketplace.
All in all, I'm too happy with my year of gaming to be overly upset over this.
Let me know where you can find a 20GB PS3 since most stores no longer carry them and Sony has all but phased them out due to 'customer demand' of the 60GB. Stop holding onto the price of a $500 PS3 when they are not available to purchase.
:-s So, I'm supposed to let you know now? Because they have them at the local K-Mart. And Wal-Mart. And I went to both of those places yesterday. And until your post, I didn't know they were supposedly hard to find.
EDIT: As far as "upgrades" go, I don't really care that they do it. The only "upgraded" system I have purchased is the PSTwo, and that was mainly because I paid $0 out of pocket to trade up.
I didn't rebuy any of the other systems mentioned in here. I still have my original NES, SNES, PS1, GBA, DS, etc.

Exactly. For all intents and purposes the 20gb PS3 does not exist as a PS3 purchasing option anymore. Sure you might be able to find an old one still sitting on a store's shelves but by no means is this indicative of it still being marketed. The PS3 is a $600 now and that's that.

Again, like I said, I used the word crippled because no other adjective I could think of could quite describe it. But it does only have a 20 gig HD, no WiFi, and no memory stick slots.
But my main point is that most gamers want the "best" version of whatever console they're buying. For $480, people get the "best" version of the $360 or for $500, people get the lesser version of the PS3.
EDIT
I think the fact that stores are beginning to not carry it supports my argument that people want the best version of their console of choice.

Again, like I said, I used the word crippled because no other adjective I could think of could quite describe it. But it does only have a 20 gig HD, no WiFi, and no memory stick slots.
Yeah, you definitely can't play Motorstorm without that memory stick slot. None of those are crippling differences between the 20GB and 60GB PS3s.
But my main point is that most gamers want the "best" version of whatever console they're buying. For $480, people get the "best" version of the $360 or for $500, people get the lesser version of the PS3.
I agree with what you're saying about people wanting the most fully-featured version of whatever console they're buying. The thing is that the differences between the SKUs of the PS3 and 360 are quite different.

It's self-fulfilling though. The 20GB sells less because they stock less of them. Also, the retailers make more money off the 60GB.
This is getting off topic.

Ok. So crippling is not a good adjective, I will agree with you there.
But since when do you need a HDMI cable and 120 gig HD to play Gears of War?
My main point is ultimately what we both agree on, people want the best version.
I'm just shocked that people are so offended by Microsoft announcing the Elite model. After a year and a half of amazing games, great service (depends on who you ask) people are willing to bring out the torches and pitchforks on MS, who has for the most part, satisfied a vast majority of gamers. Its as if no company in history has ever screwed over early-adopters before (sarcasm). 18 months is a long time. Companies find ways to make more money. Get over it.

It's neat for people who don't already have a 360, but for people who already own one it's kind of not worth it to upgrade since it isn't anything special upgraded.
HAHAHA OMG 120GB HD is $180.... my ass lol...... no thanks. That's one element the PS3 has above the 360 definetly. It's actually kind of suprising how non-propreitary the PS3 is which is very UnSony Like. The 360 on the other hand is redicuously proprietary. I want to use my logitech steering wheel on PGR3 dammit -_-

When did I make the claim that that was the case? I never even mentioned the 360, just questioning your post about the two PS3 SKUs having major differences that made one an illogical choice over the other.

My only reservation is about why MS needs to release the third major SKU this soon, which just seems to just clutter things up a little more.

My point was that people don't need an Elite 360 to play GoW just like people don't need the $600 PS3 to play Motorstorm. That is not just for you, but for everyone. People are acting like they got screwed because somehow they absolutely need the Elite.

Lets not forget that if you want to bring the $480 360 up to spec with the $500 ps3, you end up spending $680 for an HD-DVD player. Even then, the $500 PS3 is still more full featured. Or you can spend $600 and get it for $80 less and wireless...which would put the 360 up to $780. Might as well include all the details in the argument if you're going to make it.
and you can always add an extra 100gb....for 180 fucking dollars  aka more than the price of DS Lite, PS2, Gamecube, or Xbox and $70 less than a Wii.
That is not just for you, but for everyone. People are acting like they got screwed because somehow they absolutely need the Elite.
Like you said, people want the best version of the system. The "premium" appeared to be that system for the 360, but instead MS springs this on.

I don't feel bad that for the same amount I paid for a 37" 720p LCD a year ago I could have a 42" 1080p TV now.
I don't feel bad that I have purchased THREE versions of the Gameboy Advance.
I don't feel bad that the computer I am typing on will be worth about $300 in one year.
Things get changed, updated and improved all the time. I don't see why this is a big deal. My launch 360 will still play Halo 3 and Gears 2. I don't look down at the contoller and think "man this would be so much more fun if the controller was black."
For a year and a half I have stuck the disc in the machine and it plays the game... the Elite is going to do the same thing. Its existance doesn't invalidate the purchase of a mere "premium" system in any way, shape, or form. Is it good for people who don't have a 360 yet? Sure... but it shouldn't matter to people who are already using and enjoying a 360.

My point was that people don't need an Elite 360 to play GoW just like people don't need the $600 PS3 to play Motorstorm.
Then that wasn't that good of a comparison for "crippled" SKUs. Comparing the 20GB and 60GB PS3s to the Core and Premium 360s is the better comparison for what you were saying before. Then again, I wasn't arguing with that point, so I don't know why it's the focus now.

Apparently, there is no data transfer cable...
http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/03/microsofts_john.html
I asked Rodman whether the Elite itself would also include a hard drive data migration cable, for users who wanted to upgrade their box. "The answer is no, because most people wouldn't use it," he said. But Microsoft is going to provide a migration solution for existing console owners, he added, saying that "the pedal is to the metal" to come up with a solution. Rodman said he would let us know the solution before the April 29 ship date of the Elite.
Perhaps you will be able to upload your saved items to a microsoft server...and download to your new HD.

God I feel bad for the people who end up doing this: (and there are probably more than we think).
Premium - 400
Wireless - 100
HD-DVD - 200
120g HD - 180
Spending $280 more and getting less functionality than a PS3? Priceless.

-$80 because only retards buy the official Microsoft Wireless adapter.
And which functionality is less? Memory card readers built in?

Looks (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/776/776455p1.html) like Japan's not getting the Elite anytime soon (no big surprise there), but the 120 GB hard drive (18,900 yen) and 512 MB memory card (5,775 yen) will be released on June 7 in Japan.
IGN (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/776/776448p1.html)says that there's a data cable with the hard drive. It doesn't mention that it comes with the new SKU though. The PR I got doesn't mention any data cable, so either MS was just light on the details (not much in the way of specs are mentioned in it) or it's one of the fine details that we don't know yet.
A standalone $179.99 HDD also ships April 29. This package includes one 120GB HDD, software, and a specialized cable to port data from a user's current hard drive to the new one. To complement the new black console, Microsoft will also ship a wireless black controller (MSRP $49.99), a black Play and Charge Kit ($19.99), and a standalone rechargeable battery pack ($11.99) on April 29, also in black.
...
Microsoft has no plans to offer rebates, discounts, or free trade-ins for loyal early adopters. When asked how he thought gamers would respond to the new higher-priced addition, Penello said, "I think and hope that people are going to understand. There is as price for being an early adopter and your points and feelings are valid (Penello said when referring to gamers IGN suggested would be angry about the new system). But whenever you innovate and change, you have to face this situation. Your same old system is still perfectly valid. Think about it this way, it's a new bundle that comes with a bigger hard drive."
...
Why should they buy a new system now, if for some new reason, Microsoft decides to create a new system a year and a half from now?
"Should we just ignore new technology? Or listen to the input we hear from gamers and address it? If some new technology comes out, I'm going to have to look at that. We're trying something new."

Oh I didn't see in his original post he was pricing out the premium. I guess if you price out the Elite now, you can cross off HDMI, don't know what you mean by "true 1080p", I thought they were removing the emotion chip, and yeah, not everyone wants a HD movie player.
After mulling over the official announcement, I really hope MS decides to offer a substantially discounted Add-on with the purchase of an Elite very soon.

Yeah, who cares about this new xbox. Mine is fine, and I'll keep my eyes open for a deal on the 120GB drive. Those things are going to be shelf warmers just waiting to be marked down.
Am I the only one who thinks this thing is going to flop ? And be as hard to find as a 20 gig ps3 ?
Still no MythBusters on the Marketplace? BAH!
Don't know if this has been posted or not, but it looks like the Elite does NOT have the 65nm chipset, which blows. I would gladly pay the extra $80 to get that early (compared with the main line). But if now they are going to make the standard model in white with all these features PLUS the 65nm chip and price it back to $400 in the Fall, well, damn, I'm conflicted now. I may just wait . I'd hate to pay MORE than normal and get the last of the overheating/failing systems. Unless they come out with more info about this supposedly cooler running system (in what way, has it been improved and quieted and cooled in other ways than the 65nm chip would provide?) I'm hesitant...
