I've been curious about this for a while, just wondering which one is more popular now to Xbox fans.

Imagine these two games were coming out on the same day, and for some reason you could only buy one. Which would you have to choose?

Halo 3.

Gears of War MP is straight-up broken. And I thought the host advantage in Halo 2 was bad, YEESH. I don't think I get mad at videogames very often, but when I'm shooting someone point blank with a shotgun and they don't die, but they manage to roll, turn around, and splatter me and they have host connection? I get very very pissed off.

how bout God of War 2?

I like GoW more cause its people. Marcus is a badass dude plain, and simple. Play wise I like that you can't really run n' gun in GoW.

it's hard to tell, seeing as how halo 3 isnt out

Nor is Gears 2

I will be playing Halo 3 MP more than 3 years from now... GOW2? Probably not.

Gears, hands down.

considering neither game is out and GOW 2 isn't even announced i'd have to choose Dickupyourass

Gamefaqs thread ftw? How about lets start another Hanna Montana vs Ghsot Recon thread?

although i still have and loved GoW, i played it for maybe 20-25 hours (single player, coop, and multiplayer combined - most of which was SP and coop)

halo 2, i played about 1 hour total of SP, and i'm estimating 150-250 hours online in the span of 2 years i think...i was soo hooked to that game before getting my 360

so i'm gonna have to go with halo 3 if i could only have 1...however, i can have more than one, so i will definitely get both!

I'd say halo, it has more variety in multiplayer gametypes.

Halo 3 will have CTF, and that is pretty much my favorite gametype, so Halo 3. Also, Gears is great, but I personally will probably enjoy Halo 3 more.

Completely different games.

If I had to choose one, definitely Halo 3.

I couldn't play GoW MP for long. Simply not enough options. Survival gets borring after a while.

Plus I couldn't care less about GoW's story, whereas Halo 3... well... I've actually read the books. Yeah. Pathetic. I know.

So yeah, Halo 3 hands down.

STFU. I simply wanted to see who digs which game more, to the point of interest in their sequels.

Your threadcrapping is far more reminiscent of gamefaqs than this thread.

i personally don't care for halo at all... jumping a mile high and sniping someone in the head without them dying are too annoying for me. i play a mix between SP and MP with most games, didn't care for MP online for either of them, but i like realistic shooters more. so between the 2, i would pick Gears of War 2 over Halo 3, but i would pick Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 over either of these 2 anyday

Halo 3, no question. After playing Gears, I have to say, "meh..."

Gears ofWar 2. I don't like Halo. Extremely overrated game IMO.

Where's the "neither" option? ;)

If I had to pick, then it would be whichever one I can get for less than $10 (eventually).

i actually played through the whole SP campaign for GoW and though the "story" was good enough to hold my attention and finish the game...halo and halo 2 on the other hand had me bored to tears with the story...i didnt play mroe than 1 hour of each single player campaign b/c the story was way too boring for me...the MP is superb though

halo 3

there's already a GoW game on the 360, there isnt a halo game made for it yet.

Halo 3, though I prefer Call of Duty and Unreal Tournament multiplayer and I would rather have those games.

I stopped playing Gears of War SP about 1/2 way through to play through Halo again (3rd or 4th time playing it). I just enjoy the Halo gameplay more than Gears of War I think.

I'd trade them both for UT99 and Team Fortress Classic.

Oh man, I miss those.

Still, Gears for me, because Halo just doesn't do it for me. Too much like EVERY OTHER FPS I'VE PLAYED. At the very least, Gears provides something fresh.

When we hit GoW3 though... I'm bailing.

I'm a pretty big Halo nut, so I will go with that. I was hoping that Shadowrun would give a nice option 3, as I really don't like Gears MP anymore--theres not enough action in 4 on 4 for me to play without beer and still be engaged.

Weird. I was absolutely thrilled when I discovered the flood. One of the most amazing story elements in a game. I had no idea what the fuck was going on when the flood kept pouring out of the place, running at me. I had never seen these guys before, and here they were jumping and latching onto me and all I could do was spray and pray.

And all the suspense leading up to that... simply brilliant. One of the best SP campaigns ever.

Now, Halo 2... not so much. But it had its... moments... I suppose.

Gears. It has action, cheesey pop-corn flick cut scenes and actually made me want to play it, instead of falling asleep everytime I played the SP of Halo(both).

def. halo, more actionpacked and fun IMO, at least the multiplayer is, i could careless about SP. respawn ftw.

Yeah, but there's no variety. The entire thing is 2fort. Nobody goes for betrayed, cz2 or similar things.

Well, that, and without fail, there usually are more people on the enemy team dedicated to stopping me than there are people on my team willing to go for the objective.

If you like League style play checkout GoW Odin's Graveyard.

Halo 3, if for no other reason than most of my friends will be getting it (and a 360 just for it) as well.

Halo is a cultural phenomenon; debate the merit of it and quality of the games themselves all you want, when Halo 3 drops, it's going to be an EVENT.

Don't get me wrong, Gears of War is great. I feel Gears has almost the same level of quality and appeal as the Halo series, it just didn't seem to strike a nerve like Halo did.

Gears... although at this point the only thing I'd be looking forward to is stuff from RSV.

Well on an innovation scale, Gears.

Halo did alot for console shooters, but in the end it's nothing spectacular in the realm of FPS in general.

Gears is still young and definately flawed(enough so that I sold it a while back), but is trying things that shooters haven't really seen(atleast not to the extent that Gears has done it.)

Like others have said though, they are very different. GRAW2 is closer to halo than gears is.
