Will an original Xbox 12 month sub. card work on RENEWING an Xbox 360 Live account?

I've heard of these working on a 360, but only when signing up for a new account (granted, only about 5 people have used this for their 360). I'm not going to sign up for a new account and lose all my stats and acheivements over this. It says on the box that it is 360 compatible, but can it be used to RENEW an Xbox 360 account? I don't want to open it and not be able to return it if it doesn't work.

Yeah, I got one from TRU, and was able to use to to renew my subscription on my 360. Also, my live account was created on my 360 as well.
