Finally, during a presentation on NIS America's new RosenQueen Company online store, a company executive strongly hinted that Nippon Ichi is moving into Wii and Nintendo DS development. "I've heard rumors--just rumors!--that NIS is preparing DS and Wii contracts," the exec laughed. The point was further solidified by the multiple Wii and DS accessories the company now sells online.

I'm sure they've always known that the DS and Wii would be able to do well the kind of strategy games they're known for, but I imagine that early marketshare and their ties to Sony prevented them from this.
Hooray for lower development costs!

Yeah, given their product line doesn't rely on super-realistic 3D graphics, they can't afford high development costs due to their niche status, and Wii's large market share especially in Japan, it makes perfect sense for them to move primary development to Wii from PS2, or make their games for both systems.

How can anyone think Wii + turn-based strategy is a better match than any other console + turn-based strategy? Do you really think choosing things from a menu with your remote is going to be any more fun than with a Dpad?

Point-and-click movement, like Fire Emblem should have done, and hopefully will in its first true Wii iteration? Yes.

I think this could work very well, especially with the PS3 development costs. Or they could just continue making PS2 titles till Sony doesn't want htem to anymore. Choices...

I don't see a problem using the Wiimote. Select a character by pointing at him and clicking A or B then use the analog stick on the nunchuk to navigate the menus. Not that hard. Not that much different.
Besides, Wii games don't HAVE to use the Wiimote. They also have the classic controller available to them.

I think it'd be cool if they had you "pick up" the characters to move them, like when you pick up your Mii. Legs all dangling and shit...

You know, I was perfectly happy with my GameCube. It had Metroid Prime, a near-perfect reinvention of a classic series. It had Melee and Mario Kart, the ultimate multiplayer games. It had Wind Waker - still my favourite game ever. I was totally satisfied with the machine.
And then I saw the Playstation 2's Disgaea. And I was made aware of the great void in my heart - the great, Disgaea-shapped void.
I'd buy it (at a high price)!
