Decent interview getting Reggie's take on the current state of third party support, and how it got there.

I think the next parts will be more interesting:

Next: We challenge Fils-Aime's assertion that the difficulties third parties face on Nintendo platforms is solely an issue of product quality. He in turn challenges our depiction of his now-famed "Read my lips (http://ncroal.talk.newsweek.com/default.asp?item=395614)" pledge that the Wii would not suffer from the legendary Nintendo drought (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Nintendo+Drought).

Nothing too spectacular except for his expectation of more Take-two support - whatever that means.

What I want to see Reggie address is why third parties are making crappy, gimped versions of their games for the Wii. Why can't we get a REGULAR RE game? Why can't we get a REGULAR Dragon Quest game? Why can't we get a REGULAR Prince of Persia game?

Sure Nintendo may have third party support on paper, but the substance isn't there at all. I want high quality third party games - not dumbed down for Nintendo shit!

We are; valid question - though probably because DQIX is going to DS; because Ubi wanted a quick cash grab.

This has been said over and over, but it's not really in Nintendo's hands per se. It costs big money to invent a new IP or develop a new game from the ground up--especially a game that's pretty much going to be just for the Wii. You better believe that developers are going to make sure they can sell product for the platform before they invest anything substantial in it.

Consumers have to get used to the idea of standing up and flapping their arms all over to play games and it's not going to happen overnight.

Fortunately, on the competitors' systems, it costs big money to do ANYTHING.

This has been explained over and over again on these boards. It takes TIME to make games. The runaway success of the Wii caught most off guard. The games that have been released are the type where the company is releasing something that is of decent enough quality to warrant purchase to people when there is nothing much else available. We will eventually start seeing original and quality games coming out, it just takes time.

By count of Metacritic, the Wii has 45 games out (give or take some, and not including VC games).

By count of Metacritic, the PS3 has 30 or so (give or take some downloadable games).

I know the Wii gets a lot of flack for a drought, but they have put out a decent number of games for people to choose from. They might not be to the tastes of people here on CAG, but in my opinion they have done a very good job of getting games out that have mass appeal. Very good sign for the future, if you ask me.

it's early in the life of the system and it seems nintendo is basically trying to make or even remake friendships with third party publishers. I'm willing ot bet in the next year or so we'll see a lot of good stuff happening all around for nintendo

I noticed that Reggie loves to start sentences with, "You know..."

I enjoyed that article very much. I'm so glad Reggie isn't an idiot like all the other PR people from... uhh... 'other' companies. Harrison though... he makes me mad sometimes.

It is still very early in the life of ths system, and while it may not be indicated so currently, I really feel that more third parties to be on-board with the system this time. Rockstar is just one indication...
