Ugh. I've been trying to fix this for days and no go. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and maybe has a solution.
Whenever I try to bring my computer back from standby or hibernation, I get the blue screen of death and the error reads:
STOP 0x00000050
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA
I've tried Windows support, google groups, various websites, nothing works!!!
Also, this occurs sometimes when I leave my computer on for awhile, it will show this screen.
I've tried re-installing a couple drivers, doing a memory-check test, defragged the HD, nothin. Someone please help!

Make sure you have latest drivers.
Dumb question first you checked the disk for errors and nothing came up right. You did a fix errors thing and it asked to start at next sys boot, right? If that doesn't work you might have some type of spyware, adware, or trojan. If is one of them use spybot and then adaware. Both free. Then if nothing serious comes up (they both say tracking cookies are serious but aren't).
You didn't get something recently a new hardware item, some new peice of software right? You might have installed something new maybe with something else? One time I installed a tv card and the tv software thought it best to install a virtual dvd drive so I could make virtual dvd's. Only thing was it was horribly written crap and then stopped my computer from going into standby. I figured it out by looking at my device drivers and then removing the wonderful virtual dvd that I never used anyway.
Maybe a new patch that autodownloaded from Microsoft. Once every year or so one of their patches screws up some systems and they don't catch it till it is released.
Sometime files just get corrupted for who knows why. Try to do a system restore to the furthest point back you can see if you have xp. Otherwise you will probably have to reinstall windows as I don't think anyone will be able to help you with that error. Which I believe has something to do with your physical ram. It might be a program loaded into ram or the ram itself. I really don't know.
Sorry if I wasn't any help.

Drivers for what though? I don't really feel like going through all my hardware and updating them.
I did a error check, but for some reason my computer froze at 26% at Phase 4. I'll try again this weekend where I have access to another computer and I can afford to leave it alone to do a complete check. I'll try running my Adaware and re-downloading Spybot, and doing another Virus scan.
I haven't installed any new hardware at all. I installed some stuff for a PDA my friend gave me, but I just uninstalled all that. I did find some weird things when I checked my add/remove programs, I found some new Microsoft programs Compression Client and User driver something, most likely from the last update. I went ahead and uninstalled those.
I actually had to boot up from a point where my OS was functioning correctly (this was under the advanced setup menu upon booting up) I forget what the name was, but it allowed me to get Windows starting without the error check starting.
Sigh. I'll do some more sleuthing, thank you for your help though, much appreciated!

Umm well I am thinking, why do you let your comp go into hibernation? That really isn't that good for your comp and it doesn't save that much power. I would just disable that in the control panel and presto problem fixed.

Next time you try bootin the computer, hit the 'F8' and choose 'Last known working configuration' and see if that works. Otherwise, prune down what is running on startup by running msconfig and see if that helps. It could also be your display driver. You should uninstall it completely, reboot, & have it redetect it as a VGA adapter. Then install the latest WHQL certified drivers from Ati/nvidia site.
BTW, you're not overclocking your computer or video card CORRECT? ;)

Upgrade your motherboard's BIOS. However, you should disable hibernation anyways, it has no use and causes more problems than it tries to fix.

Try updating to the latest video drivers. Some problems with the Hibernate feature are caused by video card/drivers.

Darth - That does not fix the problem. If you read my entire post, you would've seen that it does this also on standby, and sometimes when I just let the screensaver run.
Cappy - That's the option I chose to get Windows to actually start up again versus run the error check. I've actually cut down a lot of programs upon start-up using msconfig, but I don't think that is the issue here.
I'm using a laptop by the way, sorry I forgot to mention, so I'm not sure just how much rolling back/updating my video drivers will work because I'm using a stock video card but I will try. I will also try to update my BIOS, thanks for that suggestion.
Thanks for the help though guys.

"and sometimes when I just let the screensaver run"
wha.... Is your computer stable? Can you run two (that's so it really taxes your computer) prime95's in torture mode with no problems. Can you run any video card stress test? Maybe some kind of hardware problem popped up.
Pressing F8 and then last known good config would only help if you couldn't boot the last time. I am quite sure the backup reg gets re-written every time you make it to the desktop so that won't help.
Did you do like I said and do a System Restore back to the earliest date. 9 times out of 10 that will fix anything as long as it isn't hardware related. It won't change your document files just your registry. drivers, and programs. You can also change it back to how everything was before you restored if it makes things worse.
The usual driver suspects that you should try and get the latest drivers for are : Video Card #1, Sound Card #2, and Bios #3. Make sure that the bios has suspend to ram or s3 power saving if you see it, enabled. Your CPU might have some type of power saving throttling control driver. Even if you have on board sound and video there are always usually newer drivers. Don't look at your computers download page go directly to Intel, ATI/AMD, Nvidia. Or whatever for newer drivers. Same for sound. Sometimes MS releases patches and you are supposed to get new drivers otherwise the patch won't work right with your older drivers.
It doesn't seem like you are getting anywhere. You should move all your personal data (copy to a dvd, flash drive, networked computer....) and just reinstall windows. If it you still have a problem after a clean install then it is most probably the hardware and unless it is the ram you can't fix it.

Well actually this time, even when the screensaver ran, I didn't come across the error, but when I tried to bring back from standby it came up again.
I'll try the System Restore later tonight or tomorrow if time permits. First I'll try to get the newest drivers for those 3 components you recommended.
I'm fairly certain it's not the RAM since I ran a test on it, and nothing came up. The problem with reinstalling windows is that Dell doesn't give you the disc anymore....I have a Windows XP disc at home, but I've used up the key, can I call MS and ask them to let me do another install??
Wait damn. You need the OS disc to run system restore don't you? NM. That's system recovery I'm thinking of.

Thanks alot Fuzy. I did system restore and now everything is working the way it was.
However, now my AVGE Free will not load correctly, and whenever I try to install/uninstall I get an error. Any suggestions....I feel so helpless =/

Hmm that is a problem when you use system restore, sometimes it screws up programs like that. What I would say is use something like System Mechanic to delete the program or manually delete it and then reinstall it.

Umm there is no AVGE.exe that is the name of a Spybot Worm. Do you mean AVG from Grisoft. Could be the worm has been erased due to the system restore and is spouting errors because part of it are missing. AVG doesn't catch anything other than generic viruses. I am a tech and I fix computers that seem to be screwing up royally and people don't realize that is usually a spyware infestation. They blame XP when XP is really stable. If you don't download random crap and use something like firefox you only need a firewall. I see people that have fully patched Norton, Macafee, and AVG the programs all say everything is okay dorie. When in fact if you run spybot search and destroy, or Adaware they are infected. And the only one that actively looks for spyware and does a half decent job is the free and paid Avast. It is slower than AVG but unlike AVG it actually does it's job. I am sure you will find a million people that each have a different opinion but that is my professional one.
On to getting rid of AVG press ctrl-shift-escape task manager pops up close all avg thingies. I dunno I don't use that program.... Go to control panel -> admin tools -> services . Stop avg or antivirus tools. Get newest version of program online. Try to install. When it asks about install should have something about a clean install do that.
If still doesn't work make sure all antivir tasks in the task manager are closed. Go to system restore and make a current restore point in case you do something really bad. So you can go into safe mode and resore your computer to working state. go to prgrams folder delete avg or grisoft or whatever. Then you will have to open you registry be careful. Back up the software keys before you delete them just in case. go to start menu -> run -> regedit. Look for hkey local machine -> software -> see if you see any avg or grisoft entiries then delte them. Find microsoft under hardware and see if there is anything avg or grisoft related. Be careful here. Look under run-=> msconfig and see if you can stop any progs from starting related to avg. Then restart computer. And try to reinstall avg.
Thats about it. Google if you need any more info. AVG support will help even if you have the free version.

Sigh. I've done just about everything you suggested, even edited the registry, no dice. I did a system restore to one I saved right before messing with that stuff.
I'll try the AVG forums, see if the guys there can help. Thanks for all your help though FuzyBaffy
