I've transferred files off of a USB HDD to my PS3 so that works if that's what you're wondering.

Yes. You just plug it into the USB port and go to which ever tab you want to use (music/video/image/etc). From there you might need to change the settings (think it is "view all" to be able to dig through the file system but it should work.

Yeah, it's things like this that make the PS3 seem a lot more useful than the other consoles. It really is like a computer (albeit a fairly limited one). It's very cool to be able to use external drives, or any standard bluetooth headset, keyboard and mouse (although mouse support is pretty dismal -- I actually find it easier to use the controller). They still need to work out some of the details to make the system easier to use, but the foundation is solid.

What video formats does the PS3 use?

You could if the game supported it, but so far I don't think any of the games do. You're limited to using the keyboard for things like text entry.

There is a controller coming out that is that kind of setup but I can't find the link right now. >>NVM, here is a preview (http://gear.ign.com/articles/769/769529p1.html)

Hmmm, interesting about the external HDD....good to know, but currently my PS3 shares my 26" LCD monitor with my PC, so all my music is there. However, good to know if I move it in the future. Currently the 360 occupies my 55" RPTV (no HDMI...that is why the PS3 is elsewhere).

OMG! Sweet, i was waiting for something like that... man, i suck at the controller, i'm just not good and kinda lazy to get over the learning curve. How come no one ever mention this on the video game forum over dvdtalk? man, i was a regular over there, but after seeing the info at CAG, i'm home!

Yeh, SplitFish (http://www.splitfish.com/) has some interesting controller designs and assessories.
BTW, do I earn a commission now?

I'm thinking of buying an external HDD myself, to store all my music and videos on. I'll get a larger HDD on my PS3, just to store game related stuff. I like using my PS3 best for music, since its sound quality is superior.

I so wish I could network my PS3 and my PC the way I do my 360.
WOW?! did you say I could use my Bluetooth KB/M on the PS3? I would love that.

I think there is a way to add a OS/program to actually do that (connect the PS3 to the PC wireless to broswe files). Though I haven't looked much into that.
And yeh you can use bluetooth devices. Go the acessories I believe, should be some option to set them up there.
