Peg still world Slurpee capital
By CHRIS KITCHING, STAFF REPORTER
How sweet it is. For the fifth year in a row, Winnipeg can proudly call itself the Slurpee Capital of the World.
Winnipeggers maintained an icy grip on the title by sucking back an average of 110,873 Slurpees per store in 2003, according to statistics released yesterday by 7-Eleven.
"There's nowhere else in the world where so many people drink so many Slurpees," company spokesperson Julie Dow said from Vancouver. "I think that's pretty impressive."
To mark the honour, 7-Eleven will present Mayor Sam Katz with a bronzed Slurpee cup Friday afternoon at City Hall.
The title is awarded annually to the city with the highest average number of Slurpee drinks sold per 7-Eleven store.
Winnipeg locations beat out 5,800 other 7-Eleven outlets in North America, including 490 in Canada, to win the crown.
Calgary, with an average of 89,587 per store, and Detroit, with 78,304, finished a distant second and third.
Winnipeggers knock back an average 10,100 Slurpees a month, well above the Canadian average of 7,731.
The icy concoction comes in a variety of sizes and flavours, including Mountain Dew Blue Shock, Coca-Cola and Minute Maid Wild Cherry, all of which are Canadian favourites, Dow said.

I'm in Southern California where, as Jay Leno once said, there is a 7-11 every 300 yards.
I shall be thoroughly hydrated and caffeinated the whole day through. Just the thing to accompany my journey through all the CCs to verifiy the carnage.

Lol that reminds me of the time I went in there to get nachos. I had to rush, so I just topped my nachos with everything I could see, and then I grabbed a handful of those packet-mustards, ketchups, relish, etc. As I was zooming out the door, the 7-Eleven lady got pissed off at me and told them to put it back. It was embarrassing, but funny at the same time. =/

yes!
There was one like right outside my CC - after absolutely no luck and getting zero titles the whole sale, it seemed fitting.
So far - i hit THREE DIFFERENT 7/11s - im going out in a few minutes to hit 2-3 more.
There are like 10 all within 15 minutes of me.

All in all - i only visited FOUR 7/11s and got 4 free slurpies - 7.11 x 4 :D
I would never normally buy a slurpie and I may never go there to get a slurpie again. I did buy several bags of chips and some candy at the various 7/11s I went to, when normally i'd never go there.

Winipeg maybe be number one per (providence I think ?) but the 7-11 in Richton park, Illinois USA claims to be the number one slurpee store period. They have 3 machines in there and there are like at least 4-6 people at them at all times. the town has like 10,000-12,000 people in it too.
Bleh useless info.
I now live hours from there and my nearest one is 60 miles away. wheeeeeee

Slurpees rocketh the house.
I walk into my nearby 7-11 at random to get a Big Gulp and I didn't know about free Slurpee day, so getting a free Slurpee made my day, even if it was 7.11 ounces.
And 7-11 is all over the place here.

Who ever thought a place as cold as Winnipeg would be the number one Slurpee City, something is seroiusly wrong with Canadians if they enjoy cold slurpees during the winter
