View Full Version : Wii component cables?
Ok, I've seen conflicting responses to this, so I'm going to try and get a straight answer here.
I have a 12 year-old 27" Sharp that just crapped out on me. I'm replacing it with a new 27" Sony that has both S-Video and Component hook-ups. It's not an HDTV, so are component cables worth it? If not, is there an S-Video cable available?
Thank you!

i have a non hd big screen and have the component cables. I think they look great. I haven't used an s-vid on the wii but have on a ps2 and that made a big difference as well. i think you'd be good to go either way.
Ok... I mean, I've used S-Video with a GC before, and it did make one hell of a difference. I just wasn't sure about component, since I had never used it before.
I've just had a few people tell me that it wasn't worth it if the TV wasn't HD, but that didn't really make sense to me... so I just wanted to confirm that it's worth doing.
Thanks a lot for the response!

They do sell an SVideo cable. However if it doesn't have composite input, and your choices are between buying an SVideo cable and Component Cables, just go ahead and buy the component cables. They aren't going to be that much more expensive, if they are even more at all.
Now if your question is between using the composit cables that came with it and buying component cables, I would say that you are probably fine using the composite cables for a while until you can find a deal on the ocmponent cables. I think I paid like $4 for mine after a google checkout deal posted a while back. At that price they are definately worth it.
edit: to expand: I noticed a difference when I switched from composite to component, but it just wasn't enough of a difference to be worth it to me for the $20+ or whatever component cables usually cost.

It's worth it.
Component cables are the only way you'll get a progressive picture rather than interlaced (for games that support it).
Plus, it really does make things less jittery and colors look better.
Get them.
Oh, the TV has composite... which helps, since I have 11 systems hooked up through it right now.
But, yeah, think I'll pull the trigger on some component cables as soon as I find 'em cheap enough.
Again, thanks to all!

Like everybody else said, if you've got the inputs, get the cables. I have my Xbox hooked up through component on my mini-16 inch TV, and it looks great.
