I'd say there has been pretty decent buzz about it, especially for a beat-em-up. Looks very promising, but I'm curious to see if there's more to it than we've seen. Granted, I'd play it just to destroy environments while beating the crap out of people - but I wouldn't pay $60 if that's all there is to it. ;)

The PS3 version of this game has a Collectors Edition for 70 dollars, that comes w/ HD movie Hard-Boilded, all on the same disc.

I hope more CE games follow suit... this might be a nice package.

I heard about this earlier today, and I gotta say it's pretty much sold me on getting this game at release. Hard Boiled is an awesome movie. Slightly disappointed that the movie & game are on the same disk, but it's not that big of a deal.

I don't even own a PS3 yet but I think that this will be the first game that I'm going to get for it. The Criterion alone goes for more than $70 on Ebay sometimes and to have the movie in High-Def plus the game is definitely worth it.

There's supposed to be a CE for the 360 as well but I don't think it will be better than this.

I love the movie, so the only thing holding me back is the game. I'm gonna wait a bit on this one, need more info on game play and story etc... The trailer looks okay to me.

Ah, so it's not a 2nd disc or anything like that... This will be the first game disc that has movie on it. I don't know what to say... It's a pretty good idea, but for people don't have a PS3, they can't watch the movie, even though they got a BD player. Wow, a bit confusing for some people i bet.

Well word is it is being rereleased outside of the PS3 disc. If it is going to be HD, or just on a normal DVD, I don't think it has been stated yet though.
Hard Boiled? That saw it's normal DVD re-release last week.

i sold the Collector Edition for $30 a while back... the dvd is definitely out, but as to a remaster one (meh, whatever you want to call it) to be re-released along with the HD version (mostly likely HD-DVD, not BD), that's what NamPaehc is talking about (i think). I believe the criterion version of HB is "hot" right now, b/c it's the "best" version out there.

WOW. You can ONLY play the movie via the PS3. Not a huge deal but that does suck for people who only have standalone Blu-ray players. Not that it matters to much as it seems the movie is going to get re-release anyway. "End if july" has past so maybe it slipped a bit.

I don't know that it sucks for standalone owners. I can't imagine many people would spend $70 for a single movie that has game functionality that they won't ever use. Confusing? A lil' bothersome? Yes on both counts. Ultimately moot, however, IMO.

I just played the 360 demo last night while waiting for the Bioshock demo to go live; a great game that I'm completely sold on (Stranglehold - and Bioshock, too - but the former is of relevance here). I want to wait on it, since I'd like the version with Hard Boiled on it, if there are only minute differences, gameplay-wise, between the two versions. Gah!

Stranglehold no longer region locked

After cries on Midway’s official boards the company had a change of heart and decided to release the game without region coding. This means if you’re in Europe, Asia or wherever you can import the limited edition version of the game, which comes with the Blu-ray movie Hardboiled on the disc.

I’m glad Midway went the region free route. I wouldn’t want Stranglehold to be a precedent for region locked Playstation 3 games or (gasp) region locked portable games. Also something else to note is there are a significant amount of gamers who want their software without region locks. Maybe not enough to sway for a region free Wii, but there are enough voices to make Midway care.

Reasoning was to do with the CE coming with the HD movie on the disc. Movies are still Region Locked so they wanted to avoid any "problems" and locked the game. Some how, they felt it was alright to lock both the CE and then normal version (even though it doesn't come with the movie). After the uproar, looks like they have backpaddled.

This is becoming ridiculous. Where the hell is the competition? Are the developers really that unconfident with their games that they just push them back so that Halo 3's hype dies down while the games come out?

If this game was prepared, it would still come out on the 25th. Developers need to get some balls and fight back Halo 3 with something that will make everyone go wow. So much for competition...

After picking up Strangehold Collector's Edition yesterday, I finally got some playtime today. Is anyone else seeing a lot of bugs. Right when the first two enemies show up on top of the short stairs, I dove and somehow ended up underneath the level. Then I restarted and got about ten minutes further until for no reason it froze. At that point I got frustrated and gave up. I think I might wait for a patch. I knew they were having problems with the engine but I didn't think it would be this bad.

Is anyone else experiencing these problems?

It looks more like an upscaled dvd for the most part. There's a few scenes where it looks 1080p'ish with great color. But that's only for a few scenes. Anyways, I had the same freezing problem and stuff as well. That's why I sold it on eBay.

Got my copy in the mail on Wednesday, and ran into a strange freeze/bug in the first level. About the half-way point, I ran thru a breakable door into a room and came out the door on the other side into an alley. I played thru the 360 demo 5-6 times when it first came out on XBLM and don't recall this area at all. When I got about two-thirds of the way down the alley the screen froze, but the audio kicked into a cutscene with guys on motorcycles and a shootout. It lasted for awhile and when it ended the game and controller were still frozen. I had to restart my PS3 to get anything to happen.

I was a bit pissed, and wondered if the often delayed PS3 version was still screwed up. I took out Stranglehold and went back to work on leveling up my Omega weapons in R&CF: ToD in challenge mode. I put Stranglehold this evening after work and haven't had anymore problems. I'm starting level 3 and I'm hoping I don't encounter anymore issues.

It's an excellent game, but you'll beat it in a matter of 6-8 hours. I certainly can't justify the $70 price tag. I'll probably wait until it drops to $20-$30 before I even think about picking it up.

I bought it in large part because of the included movie. I love Hard Bolied and to me 70 seemed like a fair deal for a movie I love and a game whose demo (on the 360) I enjoyed. It just sucks the game is so buggy at this point. I'm praying they patch it.
Anyway, right now I would definitely say that it's not worth $70 .

It's just an upscaled version of the Dragon Dynasty edition that was released earlier this year. I'm no expert but it didn't look significantly sharper or anything.

The movie looks okay. The integration on the game disc, lack of rewind/ff options...really piss me off. It looks nice, I suppose, but is it supposed to be 1080p? Sure doesn't seem like it.

Nevertheless, a better LE extra than most art books/soundtracks/crap. I'm happy with it.

I was also prompted to update to 1.10 for this game when I put the disc in tonight, so perhaps some bugs may have been addressed?

I didn't see this mentioned in any of the other Stranglehold threads I searched. But for those of you that have the game, does the disk itself say "Collector's Edition" anywhere on it?

The reason I ask is because I just bought the Collector's Edition used from Gamestop from that 25% off coupon dealie, and they only had one copy left.. the case is the Collector's ed, but the disk just says Stranglehold. I'm wondering if someone traded it in like that and kept the CE disk or something. The clerk had no idea even if it was on 1 or 2 disks lol.. The instructions mention something about pressing square from the main menu to watch the movie, though.
Also does the CE have any extra stuff besides the RE or just the Hard Boiled movie?

short answer: DOES NOT SAY CE on it, it's just a BLACK DISC

non CE: is a red disc.

the hardboiled movie is on the same disc.

Oh I just noticed the SLUS30081 is on the spine jacket and also on the disk itself so that's another way to tell.

Heh, I was looking all over for this in stores and eventually just ordered it online, and when I got it I was pretty surprised, I figured it would say Collector's Edition on the spine but it doesn't. I probably walked right past it a bunch of times when I was looking for it.

How is the multiplayer on this? Any fun? is anyone still playing it online?

Fuckin terrible. Waste of time. If you can actually find a game with another human being, it lags like a bitch. Just stick to the single player.
