View Full Version : PS3 on 27" tube, componant? How bad?

I have a 2 year old 27" 4:3 JVC TV. I don't think it does 480p even, though it does have one of the nicest pics I have seen on a tube tv. It does have componant input. It will be another 8 months before I can get an LCD.

I am thinking about getting a PS3, and was wondering if this TV would look like ass? Are there downscaling issues? Would it look worse than my current gen xbox?

Anyone have a similar setup, and want to admit it? I'd like to hear what you think.

People make a huge deal out of resolution, and yes, it does make things look better.

But it's not as if suddenly games are going to be PSX quality and in 16 shades of color if you play it on your TV.

Graphics still impressed my cousin when I took it over to his small SDTV.
There's no reason to wait.

Thanks, that is all the encouragement I needed.

I used to play it on an old sdtv with s-video and it still looked fine.

My favorite thing about HDTV is the wide aspect ratio.
It makes everything better.

when I first got my ps3, I was playing on a 27 inch SDTV via S - Video... the picture was nice, no nicer than ps2.... however on black friday I got a 32 inch White Westinghouse 1080i / 720p tv and you definitely don't want to go back to standard def.

save the $600 and buy a new TV man. HDTV LCDs cost that much anyways. what a waste of a ps3

Buy a TV first. You're not missing anything by not owning a PS3 now.

if you use component it should be just fine but below it and you can't read text

I agree with everyone else. There is no point in owning a PS3 right now, especially if you don't have an HDTV. Drop that $600 on a new set.

I played through all of Resistance Co-op with some friends on an SDTV and they were still drooling over the graphics through most of it. Think of it this way - you'll be amazed by the graphics when you first get your PS3, then you'll just shit a brick once you get to play it in HD.

i had a 360 on launch and played on my 36 via component sdtv. i was at my friend's house enjoying his 360 on his 60 hdtv more than my sdtv. so i sold my 360 (deffinitely didn't loose $) and ended waiting it out to purchase my 56 hdtv. whatever your decission, don't look at a ps3 on an hdtv before you have one of your own or you'll regret it.

ps - the longer you wait to buy a hdtv, the better; but i don't think ps3s will drop in price as quick, so you might as well not waste your time by saving your money for a tv before you pick up a ps3 imo.
