View Full Version : Best Buy requires a manager's override for EVERY price match? is this new?

The last few times I've went to price match something, a screen comes up asking for a manager override EVERY time... it doesn't seem to matter the dollar amount, whether it's $5 - $6 or $12 - $15.
No matter what, the same screen comes up, the cashier has to find a manager, and the whole thing turns into a long 5 minute affair as the cashier and people behind me in line get frustrated.
Before, all they did was put in the new price and bam, that was it, in and out in a flash.
Is this just my store, or is this happening at everyone's stores? It's making price matching a hassle (but it still beats going to Circuit City).

Happened for me too last lime I price matched CC - even had a copy of the ad with me. The manager didn't even look at it - just walked over and typed in her code or something.

I'm not surprised... those employees probably let some stupid shit go.

At my store (CC) you basically need what's like a license attached to your employee number to be able to do it. The only people who have said licenses besides managers are our two full time customer service employees, so if one of them isn't there at customer service that day, then you basically have to get a manager to do it. I assume the process is somewhat similar most places, sad though it may be, the loss prevention wings of these corporations generally don't trust very many folk when it comes to messing with potential profits.

yea this has been happening with my BB for years. They always force me to go to
CS to do a price match/adjustment. I use to think it's because all those stupid kids at the register changing prices for there friends, so they instead lock them out and put anyone over 18 at CS because they think that an adult won't do this shit... uh huh.

I left Best Buy about 8 months ago now, but at the time whether or not an override was required was dependent on the severity of the price adjustment. Unless a game was being marked down considerably to match a competitor, I never required a manager's approval.
If a game being marked down 5 bucks from an original tag of $50 or $60 requires a manger's intervention, then it sounds like the policy must've changed.

I believe it's like Pylis states......
I can do a price match of $2 - $3 diiference with no problem. It seems that $5 and up requires manager intervention.

Kmart is the worst offender for this, they require a manager's approval even if the price is a 30 cent difference, this is even if the price that comes up in the register that was not the advertised price or if the stickered price is less than the price that comes up in the register. What this does is make very long lines on a sunday when they have only 1-2 cashiers working. If you have ever shopped at kmart you know what I mean.

As long as we get what we want, they could have a chimpanzee perform the override as far as I'm concerned...
