what the hell am I doing wrong?
Im fishing at that water slide level but the fish just jumps up and goes back to it's cave? I used the hint system but it tells me to fish. :bomb: I can't tell if Im doing something wrong fishing motion control wise or if Im doing something in the wrong order. I can't think of anything I should be doing before I fish though. Yes I have the worm on the hook.
Im not even far in and Im frustrated.
You have to bring the fish's health ALL the way down. It takes more than one try to do that.

I talked to one of my best friends, who has been guilted by my shameless promotion of the video game into buying it. He's done with area 1, and we talked about the boss...
THERE ARE LEVELS CAPAPBLE OF ALTERNATE PATHS.
In other words, I've spent most of last night trying to discover new ways of beating the World 1 boss, apart from the two that we have discovered.

On the Icicle of Prosperity level, how do you bring down the huge icicle? I beat the level by shoving the small icicle into the ice block surrounding the treasure chest, then beating away at it for five minutes or so with the batbrella. Really anticlimatical that way.
And as far as the first boss goes, how do you beat it the alternate way? I beat it by sliding down the rope with the umbrella, then ringing the bell (I think that was it), then crashing down and grabbing the umbrella at the last second.

And as far as the first boss goes, how do you beat it the alternate way? I beat it by sliding down the rope with the umbrella, then ringing the bell (I think that was it), then crashing down and grabbing the umbrella at the last second.
The first Question is rather elementary:
The Huge icicle needs to be blown up. You start by driling it (mole-drill), then using the small icicle into the drilled cone, then hitting it with a hammer. Use the FROG BOMB and place it right INSIDE the damn hole, and it'll ALMOST bring down the chandelier. Use the saw to finish the job - and get mad points.
FROG BOMB: You get the frog with a Snake Grapple. However, you will notice that the frog jumps out of the way. Drop the snake grapple on the floor, and ring the bell to make it back into the snake, and watch the cutscene. If you need help with the mole drilla, or bull hammer, holla.
As for the second question, it's a hard one to answer.
Get saw, cut both rods off. Either anger the guy and/or go get the scale vase and throw it on the snake totem. Now, go inside and do the "make the water come down" puzzle. Cross to the right side of the stage. Ring your bell, and as soon as you hear the boss guy running, IMMEDIATELY go back into the cave. If you did it correctly, you'll see an animation of the boss guy being quite confused. Go up the stairs, ignore the chest for now, and come up super-close to the boss guy. Now, RING YOUR BELL AND DO NOT STOP UNTIL HE IS A TOTEM POLE. Then, just go on to the chest, and you're done!

1 last complaint I have (aside from the analog stick control I posted earlier), I went in expecting a graphic adventure type game like Monkey Island, NOT set stages.
This really makes no difference to me now since it is great, but I wasn't expecting a set area like it is, I was expecting a story with wandering around. No biggie. Great game.
This is why I was discouraging everyone from calling this a "point-and-click adventure." Because while that's KIND OF true, in that you're pointing and clicking and solving adventure type puzzles, you're not doing it in the service of a detailed narrative and using a collection of items across the entire game. It's basically a collection of scenarios in which you start from scratch in each and have to figure out how to get the best outcome before moving on to the next.
I don't want people going into this game expecting Grim Fandango or Monkey Island and being disappointed. This game is good for different reasons.

The way this game makes you use the wiimote is fucking incredible. Like when you have to rock the baby dragon in the fire boss level.
Seconded - that was the best use of Wiimote so far... Loved that boss battle big time. AND Boss 2. Boss 1 was allright, until I reliazed you can beat him DIFFERENTLY...

I don't know if this quote refers to Goblins games or Z&W. In any case, I should mention that Z&W does the genre justice, since its stages are excellent, and designed with an excellent feeling of "belonging" - Puzzle Dungeons FTW (go Ice Mansion on Twilight Princess!) thought Z&W does indeed stop after each one, very much in tune with the gameplay propelled by Gobliiins 1 (the first in the series). Additionally, Zack can only carry one item at a time - hauntingly similar to the item-carrier of Goblins 1.
As far as old games are concerned, I really loved the Goblins series - all three games are great. The latter two certainly take the puzzle routines into a more of an "adventure game setting" where the characters may roam relatively small areas quite freely in attempts to understand just what the hell is going on. In that respect, they resemble a proper adventure, in some ways moreso than Z&W.
I sincerely hope that you'll get to the ice world as soon as you possibly can - the latter stages are really excellent, and by that I mean that they take long enough to beat for them to feel less like stages and more like "large areas" of proper point'n'click goodness. Just saying.

I prefer The Z&W format of small stages to a continuous game. It makes the game easier to play and if you get stuck you can just move onto another stage. You also know that everything you need to solve that stage is in that stage.
In older games you had to find some obscure statue in some hidden hut then walk for 10 minutes to the other side of the game and use it. If you didn't know where to use it too bad. You had to solve that puzzle or you couldn't move on.

The game apparently has an adjustible difficulty so if you fail it makes things easier each progressive time. Or maybe it just randomizes certain stuff. I don't know. At the ice boss the mirror kept appearing in different spots everytime I died.

Yeah, the Oracle dolls will show you exactly how to set up the mirrors. Which was useful for me, because I absolutely misinterpreted what I was supposed to do with them, thinking I had to make the two idol statues activate or something. Sometimes it seems I think too damn hard about the puzzles.

Stores in my area got it on Thursday. Target, Best Buy, GS/EB got between 1-8 copies. Most getting only 3 or 4.
I'd give it a solid 8.5 right now. Some of the control aspects are flimsy the first time through, and some need too much force. Seriously, best $40 you can spend on a game this year. PERIOD.
And I'll say that this game IS A NINTENDO GAME. The style in which embodies it is so like a Nintendo game it's scary. It's easy to pickup and play, easy to stop, something casuals and hardcores can like. It's not purely adventure, and it's not purely brain training. It's a good mixture of a game that Nintendo is trying to do. The best Nintendo game not made by Nintendo ever.

Hey, buddy: sorry to hear it. I assume you want hints...
1. if you are dying because of LAVA, that's because you need to cover up Zack while riding underneath it.
2. Pick up the remains of the guy you killed with the block
3. The very end, eh... Okay, walk to the left, and three baddies will appear... You have a little MYST-like puzzle ahead of you.
4. You need to cut them off while providing a bridge for yourself, and you have three Tetris-Tees to control, you can rotate them all, and press the button to execute new rotation - the big red one in the middle.
5. SOLUTION: Rotate the top one so that it would look like this:

So do you guys think that you could do this game another console and keep the gameplay the same?
Scrubking posted a while ago regarding one particular use of the Wiimote. I second that very one - gimmick or not, I could not care less. You can't help but smile while doing it - it's one of the most sincerely adorable things I've ever done in a video game, and only a severe homophobe (or twitchy HALOhead that can not enjoy a game unless he/she is killing something every five seconds) could find it in themselves to be hateful towards it.
If you have the game, don't look at Scrub's spoiler - find out for yourself.
As far as other consoles go... It wouldn't control in the same way - not point - and - click style. I do have some issues with the pathfinding (both LucasArts and Sierra have nailed the need of obsessive/compuslive adventurers to click a lot, though I'm learning to hold down the A button while gently moving the Wii Remote to where Zack needs to go, but it still sucks when he's swimming). I would love to see a PS3 adventure title, with proper polish, gorgeous graphics, and large-scale "take your breath away" design.
But honestly, I'd love to see a simplistic 2D point-and-clicker on the Wii. I really hope Broken Sword 1 & 2 would get ported, mostly because I love the developers and their Nintendo fanboyism. That, and because it would be in their interest to do just that.
Oh, we LOVE the Wii.
Yes, Tony of Revolution Software, so do we.

As a pretty serious adventure fan I'm a bit dissapointed with this game so far. Based on the title I wasn't exactly expecting Tim Schafer or Ron Gilbert levels of writing here, but it would be generous to call this games script even mediocre. It's actually quite poor.
Secondly, the controls hinder the game more than they help, in my opinion. I liked playing the wiimote like a flute, and sawing was kind of fun, but for the most part the controls are finnicky and unresponsive. It's especially frustrating when you lose points for using the right item, but the wrong end of it because the controls are innacurate.
And finally, I can't for the life of me understand why they chose to use the old-fashioned "lives" system. Unlimited continues have been the norm for well over a decade now (and have always been the norm in adventure games), so the concept of having to buy continues is a just plain awful design choice. As is the fact that you can make it so you cannot progress through a level by using up an item. There should at least be a message that pops up telling you this, so you'd know when to restart.
Otherwise the game is quite good based on the puzzles alone. I just finished the set of ice levels and they're getting better as they go. I especially like the concept of having multiple solutions to the same puzzle. It's still a fun game and a nice throwback to a mostly forgotten genre, but in a year where we've had Portal, Tomb Raider: Anniversary, and Phantom Hourglass, Zack and Wiki isn't even among the best adventure games of 2007.

It's especially frustrating when you lose points for using the right item, but the wrong end of it because the controls are innacurate.

hu, i don't know if you can really compare point and click adventure games with other adventure games. they're just so different.
the lives system bugged me early on, but i've gotten use to it. i'm usually able to get to where i was pretty quick, and revive coins are reasonably cheap.
and i like the motion controls. i see why some people wouldn't. most of the time it's just silly waggle. but i haven't had any trouble with them being unresponsive. and there are certain situations where the motions add a lot more possibilities of how to use a tool. which makes it a lot more likely that you'll get stuck. and getting stuck is what these games are all about.

Grrr, I'm stuck at the last level. I'm at the last level, "return of the legend", and when they damn bells are sucking you, I can get past the first two times, but the third, there's no indication of which one won't suck you in. Anybody have any assistance?

I respectfully disagree.
I don't understand people bitching about platinum tickets. I guess I don't die nearly enough. Not only have I not been frustrated with it, but in light of titles like Gobliiins - when you screw up it's forever - Zack & Wiki is nowhere near as frustrating (Gobliiins makes you replay the entire GAME).
I found the game to be a "god send" and the more I get into it, the more I am reminded that it does not have a rival. Grated, everyone in here would give me a lot of shit for praising Z&W as one of the best p'n'c adventure titles, because it isn't REALLY a p'n'c' adventure - it's a p'n'c puzzle game, and because there is almost no story during the first part of the game...
But let me break it down for you: good luck being all like "whatever" after world 3.

I normally wouldn't compare a point and click affair to an action adventure title(thus comparing it to Phantom Hourglass was perhaps stretching it a bit), but I felt like Portal and Tomb Raider: Anniversary had a pretty equal puzzle to real-time reflex ratio as Z&W. All three of these titles are roughly 95% puzzles with only a pinch of reflex based action thrown in to spice things up. As long as the puzzles are the meat of the adventure I don't think it matters if it's point and click, 2D, 3D, first or third person, etc. In fact, perhaps the reason I was so fascinated with Tomb Raider: Anniversary and Portal was because they managed to create an "oldschool" adventure/puzzler game with perspectives more commonly associated with platformers and shooters.

Did anyone beat the damn game yet?
Zen Davis
10-28-2007, 12:27 AM
I did.
Johnny Styles betrays you and he ends up dying like that dude from Indiana Jones died when he betrayed Indy and got caught on the spikes - except Johnny Styles falls in a pit. You end up escaping through the rubble as the skull tells you this secret route out of the collapsing temple and you run away with the skull. However Zack trips and he drops the skull and as Zack turns to grab it part of the temple caves in and crushes Barbaros' skull in half. Wiki tells you to hurry and so you continue running and at the end of the tunnel there is a light. Zack and Wiki run and jump and when they wake up outside, they see the treasure they were looking for. FADE TO BLACK.

Not I. I got stuck at some s--t and went back to playing power pros for awhile.
If any system can top Zack and Wiki and Power Pros in the span of a couple weeks, it's a good system.
Halo 3 and Half-Life don't count because I get motion sickness  .
Edit: Speaking of Indiana Jones. I heard that guy from Transformers (it was either him or the guy from Alpha Dog, I think it was Transformers/Disturbia though) was playing a young Indiana Jones in the new one. Didn't we already have a young Indiana Jones in the Holy Grail (which I think was River Phoenix who is now dead)? Just wondering how they will explain the physical differneces, or if they will at all.
Wasn't there a Young Indiana Jones TV show also?
Edit 2: Does anyone think there will be a remake of the Tales from the Crypt TV series?
Edit 3: If anyone on here likes Angels and Airwaves, wait until you hear Song #1 on the new album. Good s00t.
Edit 4: Actually the whole album is real good (much better than the 1st), but #1 is a great song.

Nope. Shia LaBouef IS in "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," but he plays the son of Indy and Marian (Karen Allen, the BEST INDY LEADING LADY, who will also be in the movie), not young Indy. The movie is set in the 50s or 60s, and the bad guys are the Russians.

MarioColbert, you were the one who brought up the Gobliiins series, yes? Right on the fucking money. Just wanted to say.
Since starting yesterday I've cleared the first area (bouncing between Z&W, Guild Wars, and GHIII right now). I'm going to try to brute force my way through it, no revives, no tickets. So far so good...but we'll see how long I last before I shatter.
My son likes the game a lot, but he's a southpaw, so he's having a little trouble adapting to some of the wiimote grips. Any lefties trying to play this w/ their dominant hand?

Yes, it's very much Gobliiins + Goblins3/GQ3. In any case, I really love the game, and I wish you best of luck beating it without revives or hints. I will say that there are moments where you will die - the game sort of teaches you what things do that way...
I've taken a break from the straight-forward gameplay and mined treasures while searching for all the skull heads for a while. I wasn't as successful as I would like to be, though my books are quite decently filling up.
I have to send my Wii in for repairs tomorrow, and I really want to beat it prior to it.... Not likely, all things considered, but fun times nonetheless.
I'm very glad others are enjoying this amazing title as much as I am - you people are the reason why I'm not nearly as pessimistic as I ought to be in the world where HALO sells trijizibukakkezillion copies.
EDIT: THAT 10 STAR LEVEL IS AMAZING.

Most frustrating was the stage in the ice level with the mirrors - boss level? I don't know why as when I finally beat it, it seemed so obvious. I think I failed to recognize that the holder directly in front of the cannon broke the pattern of orientation, so it seemed impossible otherwise.
Best level... I think I'd go with the stage in the fire level with the winding path, robots and the like. Probably because it had some cool features and is most fresh in my mind.

and most frusterating. the lava level with the robots. i somehow didn't figure out that you could control the spinning Ts with the thing in the bottom left corner. and so i kept doing the the long long level and being killed by the robots. and then i was doing everything but going to that lower left area. so frusterating.

Oh yeah, I guess I should answer my own question:
I'm far ahead in the game, so... You've been warned.
Right now I am fighting giant ass Barbaros with alligator arms. Or, should I say: working on some shit that needs to be presented tomorrow at 10, so I'm not playing Z&W, alhtough I really want to...
Do not read below if you haven't gone through 4th and 5th worlds:
Favorite part:
Totally a tie between the art gallery level and the mirror one. There is another level that is outside of competition due to its bad-assery, but I won't mention that one, because of how late it is in the game.
Stuck the worst on:
There were two moments of my absolute stupidity. The first time was the dragon boss - I activated everything (hammer and water statues) and could not get the dragon to actually attack the damn hammer - I though that pissing off the baby would do the trick. Don't ask why I didn't ring the damn bell - I'm not Game&Watch, I don't roll like that. The second time was my inability to dilure the chemical solution in Mad Scientist level... As you can see I play pretty much without hints, so I don't know what's up with that. I did use a couple during Barbaros' Land level - that fucking torch, goddamn.

1. pull the ring, as Zack begins to drop down, click on the grate that is below him and he will save himself from spiky death.
2. pick up the golden chalice, jump on the elevator.
3. pick up the vase and kill the guard below.
4. pick up the golden chalice and walk left to the weird state room. wait for the eye to close, and proceed left. stand on a button and fill the golden chalice with golden sand. back track to the right.
5. stand on the edge of the screen (click on it for a new screen), and when the wind blows directly away from you, spill the golden sand - this should now shut the eye that is all laying on its side and shit.
6. drop the chalice, and backtrack to the left room, click on the skull to pick it up, rotate it so that the eyehoes point towards the ground and shake it. pick up the lighter, and return to the previous room.
7. go to the little circle to be all sideways, and carefully trek your way towards the next platform. pick up the little pot to reveal a snake inside - can't do shit about the snake, so take the ladder up and cross over to the right side. (if a baddy is coming your way, imitate a standing statue by pickng up a pot from the little platform. or run.)
8. if you want full points, use B to ensure that there is a guy directly below you and drop the huge-ass boulah on him. otherwsie, just drop the bouldah without murder - if you don't care about the points, that is. get all sideways and walk down and then left until you reach the rope. next to the rope is the torch...
9. light the torch with the lighter - swing the wiimote to open it, use the directional pad to light it (i know, it's fucked up). the frog should jump up on its platform.
10. if you already droped the huge boulder, go grab a piece of gravel it left behind, otherwise proceed backwards to the boulder in step 8.
11. aiight, get all up ins while sideways and notice the cross with three BARBAROS' panels: go to the one on the left and you should see the snake below you. drop the stone on its head, compensate for the wind!
12. while pulling stealth shit Snake style, (as in: don't get caught by Barbaros' men), walk over to the sword and pick it up (it's below the panel for snake-violence). return to the panel with the snake.
13. drop the knocked-out snake into the hole in the panel, and the frog will make its way towards the Barbaros' place.
NOTE: if you want to try the uber-hard sword-to-sword combat, walk over to the Barbaros' after lighting the torch but before ensuring that the frog is in place. golden swords will break, iron one will not - good luck getting all the points there. also, don't fight the guy before step 19, unless you want to fight twice...
14. instead of returning downward, walk to the CROSS described above (step 11- top of sideways paths) and walk to its right side. Cut the rope there with your bad ass sword.
15. this is fucked up, but if you want all the points, go down the newly cut rope and attept to cross over. you will fall on your ass. whether you do this or not, you will have to backtrack to the elevator room (if you don't fall on your ass, however, you don't get mad points for picking up the pole!). take the elevator up and get the pole that is on the right side of that platform (where you blew the sand into the eye).
16. with the pole, walk over to the cut rope, climb down, and cross the rope tight-rope-walker-texas-ranger-style. awesome.
17. grab the fan and use it to propel the little boat back into the landmass, all the treasure will fall down below, because you rocked the boat too hard.
18. go grab the treasure below. grab the crown to register it, but what you're really after the bell. walk over to the left side, where the rope is, and drop it on the ground a little ways away from the rope.
19. go fight the guy on the bridge (make sure you have a proper sword) - if applicable, or just attempt to cross (if it's your first time on the bridge). Barbaros will ring the bell, and make the frog into a bomb.
20. pull the rope to make Barbaros fall on his dick. He'll pick up the wrong bell, because he is an idiot.
21. pick up the right bell (because you're smart) and ting-a-ling his dumb ass into a golden state. congrats - that's part ONE.
22. get a guy of his (he should be in a totem state) and give yourself a lift up the ladder, make the snake into the grabber, and return to the prison cells.

Played through the first area and I think I got everything in all of them but I'm going to double check levels. Though it only says something like 70% complete (Last I checked anyways)? Do more stages open up in the first area later? Kindof curious and want to make sure I didn't forget anything.
Great game though. Though some of the choices you have to make are quite risky at times. It's given me a better idea on how the game works, but it will still be hard for me to send Zack into risky conditions as anything except a 'last choice' option.

Yeah, I have 70% also. I'm pretty sure I had 70% prior to mastering the levels and maxing out my HQ, because I still have one left that I haven't maxed out.

Botticus, if you beat the damn game, please tell me:
HOW THE HELL DO YOU THROW THE ANCHOR DURING THE BATTLE WITH BARBAROS (when he's a giant with alligators for arms). I know exactly what to do later (because afterwards, you're all out of ammo, and I've solved that, but got killed) - yet the first time I played I did something that I guess accidentally threw the anchor at one of Barbaros' arms... I can not figure out what the hell it takes to throw it (I just spin it right round), and that's mad annoying...

Judging from the music box comment you are in the first half of the game. The best news is that the puzzles improve immensley with time, and become an integral part of certain story elements. I think Z&W's approach to puzzles is overlooked in about 80% of adventure games, because, really, the title is brilliant because of them.
Now, I'll be spinnin' the you know what, trying to throw it.

I picked this game up last night at GameCrazy and got the nifty puzzle pre-order bonus with it, since no one pre-ordered the game there (or bought the game it seems). I've gotten through the first three levels, and the game's friggin' awesome; like everyone else has said, this is the one game that really can't be replicated on any other platform. I'm hoping that I can get it done before the Fire Emblem/SMG tidal wave, which may be a problem since I also have Ratchet and Clank coming in the mail soon. =/
I really hope this game does reasonably well at retail, especially since it's a *good* original third party title for the Wii.

No, apart from playing it again. HQ score is not related to speed - it's only guided by whether or not you got something on the first try. More often than not, it is puzzle oriented (i.e. you use the right stuff), although at times it relies on your efficiency with the minigames (fishing, etc).
The multiple-solutions thing is best discovered if you play things with an open mind, or by calling your good friends that are playing the game and asking them how they beat it.
There are certain levels that appear to be quite open-ended with much stuff that isn't used in the solution (Lake of Fire) however it isn't really known whether or not an alternative solution is possible, especially in light of the fact that the game provides more equipment than necessary at times. Last but not least, careful observation of the items checklist on the bookshelf can shed some insight into missing pieces of the puzzle that you happened to leave behind.

So you need to light the statues located around the level? if so then look at the statue and then look at your friend who is sitting next to you. Remember that you can interact with him. If you want exact details let me know.

Definitely agree with this statement. Not just for the single game, but individual levels as well. I beat one level in about 3 minutes in the first area on a second try (best score too). So, I'm assuming some of these levels can be done in under a minute. Boss fights under 2.

Since it wasn't answered, I'll say yes. Though I don't know how many stages allow for this.
The first place I noticed this was in the first forest area. The stage there, while I don't remember the name, had a giant fish in that little lake with a goblin sleeping by the fishing pole.
In that stage you seemed to of had two options. One being to fish out the giant fish which I hear you're able to get with one session of fishing since you can only fish for so long. That will give you around 120k points in total. The other option is to blow up the fish with the frog bomb, which I won't say how unless asked. It's something I found out completely on accident and it wound up giving me around 170k points in the end.

Has anyone done this with 1-3 other people? Does it make it for fun, or is it more confusing?I wouldn't really call it co-op. The other players can draw on the screen or point to locations of interest. This allows other people to help you solve the puzzles by showing you where to go, what to pick up, etc. But player one is still the only one who is actually controlling anything.
There's a rumor that true co-op may be included in...ahem...the sequel.

I urge everyone - with the upcoming holidays - to try and get the word out about this game as much as you can. Tell relatives to get it for your cousins/nephews/nieces. Order some copies for friends online and use them for the holidays. Etc etc. Just tell anyone and everyone that you can.
It is possible for us to get the sales up. I'm seeing this much like Phoenix Wright 1 - if we can exhaust the supplies now, there's a good chance Capcom will see that kind of response.
Obviously this is a daunting task, and somewhat farfetched, but it's worth the effort.

Let's just say this... if that is anywhere near the right number, WOW.
It only sold 11k its first week in Japan according of Famitsu (Media Create numbers will be up tonight), and I'd really expect it to sell less in the US given that all other things were generally equal, with a better name for the Japanese release.
If it sold 30k a week (assuming decent word of mouth and repeat shipments), it could be feasible to break 100k for the month, which would be stunning.
But if 30k is right, and it sells like typical games (i.e. front-loaded), then it'll still be better than I expected, but nothing worth talking about.

We need good games to do well, especially on the Wii, so that companies are encouraged to put real effort into the games they release for the system. Capcom is already a sure-thing, and SEGA too is putting in real effort. But what other (third-party) companies besides those two have made a lasting impact with the first year of the system's life almost behind us?

Nope, but we have this:
Our guys in Japan had a HUGE marketing push for this title. It's only just come on the market there too so I'm not so sure how you're passing judgements so quickly.
As for us, let me make a few things clear:
We can't force a retail buyer to take it (though we got it on the shelf in pretty much every major retailer).
We can't make a retail buyer expedite freight so it's on shelf the day after shipment everywhere like Gamestop typically does (which is why Wal-mart and Best Buy only started getting it on shelf on Thursday/Friday).
So for those of you who only shop at Gamestop, either pre-order or look elsewhere to find copies. There were very few pre-orders at Gamestop on Z&W (especially relative to what we're seeing on the first couple of days sales). If you want to see more units on the shelf day one in that particular retailer, then pre-order. Gamestop bases their day one number as some multiple of its preorders. Period.
A number of retailers we pushed to take more units than they did but they have their own thoughts about the game and the market and make their shelf allocations accordingly. Our day one number was a decent number by any measure, owing a lot to the reviews and PR work that we've done. We are not out of stock anywhere except for possible spot out of stocks at Gamestop (probably rectified already as they took their backup order after the first day of sales).

Is this game really becoming that difficult to find? I haven't seen it at retail ever, except my copy I bought. If it only sold around 30k and is still tough to find.. wow.
Well I have been calling my local TRu for it and a few others... They have it now so my lunch will include a quick swap from the previous B2G1 sale...
Sweet. I am taking the day off work on Friday and the wife will be home.... its time for some good Wii action!!!! (read that how you will).

It just doesn't make sense. If I pre-order I could give two shits about how many extra copies a store gets.
Sounds like they are making bogus excuses for not having their game on store shelves. A consumer's job is merely buying a game they see on a store shelf. If the publishers and manufacturers can't fill that shelf, it is their problem, not the consumer's.

None of the preorder bs really matters. This game wasn't hyped too heavily outside the internet savvy and by now most of us/them have our hands on it (looking at you Strell and your puppy killing spree).
A week late wont make that huge of a dent in total sales overall. If people were waiting for say Mario they would have waited either way in my opinion.
The good news is Gamestop may have realized they undershot and didn't give a good title a chance initially and that will probably still change.....nothing, but never the less.

I have nothing to say regarding the pre-order discussion/debate.
My opinion of Zack & Wiki is that is an excellent title that needs to be pushed onto people as much as possible. I know that Mario Galaxy is going to be getting all kinds of GOTY praise, but I want to make one thing clear...
Mario doesn't really need me to talk about how awesome it is. If you were to look up Mario in any factual source, any such publication that is worth reading will say that he is the video game equivalent of SHAFT. And I mean it - bad motherfucker.
Zack & Wiki, however, did something that The International House of Mojo have predicted as "best idea for the Wii that will never come to fruition" (paraphrased) - and I can not be made happeir that a point and click puzzle adventure managed to actually survive throughout the development process without getting cancelled. In fact, the final product is so amazingly faithful to the bastard genre of puzzle games, which is in turn a sub-division of another bastard genre of adventure games, that I'm amazed the game is getting spotlight at all. The only time major publications put adventure games in the spotlight these days is to ensure that they can see it better in their sniper scopes prior to taking another cheap shot.
I hate to break it to jollydwarfs and whoever else kept constantly trashing the Wii catalog, but I told you so. And we have four more days until the glorious Fire Emblem title, which should last us just enough in time for the newest Mario Installment. And I have yet to play Metroid Prime 3 - I actually wanted to get shit done this semester.
But this brings me to a moment of clarity - you see, I didn't need to tell jollydwarf or anyone else anything. I didn't really need to explain, or to yell anything out loud. Because scientific approach requires but one thing - to wait and see. And in that regard, the current market conditions and the wealth of "holy shit" exclusives should make these forums a peaceful place. Because, really, after the 5th, I don't see if I can be bothered to reply to claims of gimmicky controls, lack of proper online service (like HOME, I guess - we call it Wii Sports, though, except we can't play mp3s on a jukebox, because that's stupid), or lack of HD and the lack of a pricetag that is equivalent to a mortgage on a little trailer. Because I'll be too busy actually playing.
So yeah, you're looking at a guy (read: post by a guy) who loves Z&W so much that he'll name it his GOTY. (Unless, of course, Galaxy asks me to pick up an item and to use it with another item, so that something neat will happen, or have an exhaustive dialog tree, or if it features time travel in a Chron-O-John.)

The alternate way is when you start, grab the worm first and then head towards the fountain. Once you click the fountain, the frog will appear. As soon as he appears you drop the worm by the fountain slide entrance and from there on out it should be pretty simple to figure out.

Anyone who wants to play this game needs to seek it out. NOW. Anyone remember how hard it was to find Phoenix Wright before they reprinted it? I had to go to something like 8 different stores (different branches of Target, Circuit City, Game Crazy, Gamestop, and Best Buy) in two major metropolitan areas (Houston and Memphis) before I found a copy. There were maybe two others on the shelf. It's not available at Bestbuy.com or Circuitcity.com. I'd put good money on this being rare and high priced on ebay VERY soon.

I have a sinking suspicion that there's not going to be a Zack & Wiki 2.... People should really start getting the word out there beyond just places like CAG.

How many games did Trace Memory sell for the DS?
There might not be a Zack and Wiki 2 but there will be many more adventure games. Look at the DS. I highly doubt titles like Hotel Dusk, Trace Memory and Touch Detective had great sales (I could be wrong so feel free to prove it) but more adventure games are on the way for the DS (lots more from my understanding).
The Wii is a great system and is in all likelihood going to be extremely hard to find for the next 6 months or so if not longer. There will be more games like this to come due to the huge audience and low development costs.
Next game to start pumping up is Agatha Christies And Then There Were None

I mentioned this game to my mother-in-law, whose youngest owns a Wii thanks to my efforts last December. I'll try my best to convince her to buy it, but really, I got one friend to change his mind from Super Paper Mario to Z&W (and all this talk of "rareness" proves me to be correct yet again, and jollydwarf's not even involved!)
In any case, I just hope that all Wii CAGs were able to snatch this one in time for shortages. The game's brilliant, and in a perfect world, the retailers would get told by many customers of variying shapes, ages, sizes, and income that they want to play this damn title.
I don't want a sequel for this game as much as I want to see more of similar gameplay. And Then There Were None title doesn't look too good, unfortunately, and appears to be more or less of a kick-back to the good old days of doing "adventures" in a boring, sterile environments...

Sounds like they seriously under shipped this game so it had no chance in hell doing stellar numbers. Sounds more like it had a small run like Trauma Center: DS and will take a little time to get more on the shelves. So despite the small numbers available, a sell out is a good sign.

What's funny is that there will be a lot of bullshit analysis saying that the game did extremely poorly due to this (stupid) under-shipping. To me, it makes no sense to do something like this, because if you're going to release a brilliant title, even if it is an unpopular sub-genre of an unpopular genre, then fuckin' do it proper. Especially with such nice get-up of "family-friendliness" involved, as well.
Truth be told - Z&W is the best Christmas present now, since most households might not have it. So, just saying GO BUY IT FOR A FRIEND OR TWO - IT'S CHEAP ENOUGH.

And Then There Were None is an enjoyable murder mystery with many excellent elements, but it is let down by sloppy implementation and inattention to detail. (highlights by me)

I'm not sure who you're referring to, and I hope we are on better terms than that  but I was reading the thread because I'm interested in the game. but the "getting rare" thing is fucking ridiculous. It's just a very plant-ish thing to write. Not accusing the OP of being a plant, but c'mon, this game is not going to be rare. It's a full game by capcom, probably had a regular budget, and has a good following.
There's just no need to cause alarm and make people feel like they have to run out and buy it right away or risk never playing it.

Not accusing the OP of being a plant, but c'mon, this game is not going to be rare. It's a full game by capcom, probably had a regular budget, and has a good following.
It's funny you bring this up, because you can't prove any of it. Neither can I, neither can anyone else in this thread. It would take Capcom employees to do that, and I'm really doubting anyone here is one of those.
Now then, barring the obvious subjectivity of your post, there's absolutely no way for anyone right now to figure out whether or not the game is rare. What we can say is that it's probably under the radar. It has no real advertising, and I'm going to guess the title/cover art does more to repulse people than to attract them.
Beyond that, Capcom is synonymous with things like Street Fighter, Megaman, and Devil May Cry (and now, Dead Rising). There's no way this game got the same amount of attention that those franchises did, because then they might actually have had the cash to pay for a commercial. I will say that it does seem like they took some time and put in a lot of effort, but there's no way it is comparable to their bigger titles.
Word of mouth might cause the game to become rare. Or Capcom might release another 100K copies.
The title is a bit sensationalistic, that much I can agree to. But everything else after that is nothing but opinion, a collection of hypothetical what-ifs, and anecdotal "well wtf I saw like 409580294802398432 at my Walmart" stories.
Let's get back to the topic at hand. The game is excellent, it's worth it to any adventure gamer to play, it uses the tech well, looks good, and obviously had some polish/attention applied to it, meaning Capcom went a bit above and beyond the shovelware crap that's all over the system. If you want a unique and fun game, you ought to pick it up.
With all the constant "omfg Wii has no games" and other bullshit rhetoric I see all over the place, to pass up a genuinely good game with a well-executed interface really makes me wonder.

It's rare because it's hard to find on shelves. You should read back through this thread to see what Strell went through just to get a copy. I haven't seen it at any retailer I've been to since it released...except for the one I found and purchased (1 of 3 they had ordered for release). Hopefully, Capcom is sitting on a pile of them and the retailers have now woken up to the fact that they should have ordered much, much more and are doing so as we speak type.

Meh. The person I quoted had that so I didn't really think to put the level. It's called Fountain Guardian.
Out of curiosity, what is the regular way to beat that stage? When I did it, I seem to have followed what you said I threw the frog bomb down the slide to knock out the guardian, grabbed the worm, then continued to beat the stage.. I did a quick search of the thread, but didn't see where it was first mentioned.
Normal way - Fishing up the guardian using the fishing rod next to the sleeping goblin that you knock out with a bomb by sending the bomb down the fountain. Which can be tough to get full points fishing up the guardian in one go. (Yields a max of around 120k HQ)
Alternate way - Sending the frog down the fountain by dropping a worm in front of the fountain entrance. Then turn it into the bomb to throw into the little lake where the guardian resides at the bottom of the fountain via the stone pedistal so the guardian explodes. (Yields a max of around 160k HQ)
It sounds like you did it the normal way since you said you threw the bomb down the fountain. The guardian is the giant fish, not the goblin sleeping next to the fishing rod. Regardless though, a basic summary of both solutions are given if you are able to make sense out of them.

There's just no need to cause alarm and make people feel like they have to run out and buy it right away or risk never playing it.
anything else about linkinprime (definitely a plant  ) or whatever, I dunno about...
Okay. I'll admit it. I'm a plant.

Capcom gave me life size Zack and Wiki plushes and let me sleep with Mikami's wife. The plushes were awesome but she sounded more like Zack than Wiki.

I played it at my cousin's.
It is really great the small time I spent it with.
I've seen it at every store so I'm in no hurry to get it though.
Wii has been upgraded from 'almost no games' to 'it's got a few'.
dallow, man, where you been? learning how to Wii-hate, I see... Cool, cool.
Heard you played some Smash Bros. with Dr. Mario Kart, yeah?
How'd it go, man?

Plant means a poster who is paid by a company to virally promote their products.
Examples:
LinkinPrime - Microsoft
Zen Davis - Nintendo
The Mana Knight - Sony
I resent that!
Zack and Wiki is clearly a Capcom product and as such, if I am to be deemed a plant of anything, I should be deemed a Capcom plant!
With that said, I hereby demand you issue a retraction and apologize to myself, Capcom, and Nintendo in a timely and respectful manner!

Meh. The person I quoted had that so I didn't really think to put the level. It's called Fountain Guardian.
Sorry i didnt look that far back
For the same stage - I didnt know about the alternative way, and i spent like 7 tries trying to fish it up on the first shot. It can be done, but its a pain in the neck.

With all the constant "omfg Wii has no games" and other bullshit rhetoric I see all over the place, to pass up a genuinely good game with a well-executed interface really makes me wonder.
okay, we'll just mark every game with "OMFG GETTING RARE BUY IT NOW L@@K FURBY TMX 360 PS3 WII AAAAAAAA++++++++++" until we can prove that it isn't rare ;)
every game that comes out seems to have people who say they can't find it. Guess Zen Davis is just a spaz.
and look, this is exactly what he wants! The plant wins!
okay, I'm done.

Just got the game in the mail today. Played it up to the level with the giant fish bastard in the water. Failed to bring the bastard in, though my arm got rather tired. After that, I got eaten by a goblin. Damn.
Really god damn cool so far.

I suggest that at least the level name or number should be non spoiled, since all i see are spoiler marks and im not sure if ive passed that area yet. Its pretty interesting to read up on alternative ways to win afterall.
My bad. I forgot to make sure that the post I was quoting had the level name in it, and not just the post I was reading .
It's called Fountain Guardian.
Ah. I misunderstood who was the guardian, and just assumed it was the goblin. Regarding the alternate method, couldn't you just take the bomb with you down the vine and throw it in the lake, without needing the worm? Or does the frog eat the worm, and then the fish eats the frog bomb in turn (or something like that)? Regardless, I'll have to try this out when I get home. Thanks for explaining that to me, I probably would never have known that this stage had an alternate solution, it being an early stage and all.
