Apperently Sony has filed a patent for a "Hand-held computer interactive device" that they will try and release to compete with the Wii. It has forcefeeback in it, and can pick up your hand movements. Sounds interesting if it comes to fruitition..

EDIT: changed from "beat" to compete with as that is probably what they are trying to do.

I doubt they built it just to "beat the wii"... But it looks interesting though. Add in the HD Eyetoy and you might have a winner.

What other reason is there? I think that's exactly why it's being developed. They see the success of the Wii and they want to take away from that and add to their own profit.

interesting. looks like it has potential. hopefully it works well and comes out soon.

this was probably done in response to the Wiimote, but who cares. Would rather have them copy something, rather than miss out on it.

That looks really, really familiar...

People keep saying that, but something like this would had to have been in development for more than a year...

Oh yea, definitely. I'm sure Nintendo, Sony, MS have hundreds of ideas that we never see. It's possible this had started before the wiimote was introduced, but, had the wiimote not been a success, they may have not released.

Anyway, its irrelevant. In the end, it doesn't matter who copies whom. In the end, we all win.

Lol yeh, they can't slap something together overnight. It takes a looooong time to go through concepts to even get to this point. Sony might not even use it in the end, but it is intresting to see that the companies have had the same sort of ideas flowing through their companies.

haha, you're not thinking what i'm thinking eh? The Nintendo Power Glove! But hell no, this thing is for real and i can't wait to see the games for it. Personally, i think it will be better than the wiimote.

You don't need to worry about straps. Seriously, the kids almost damaged the 56" DLP the other day playing Wii bowling... It's strapped, but little hands...

More natural to turn your hands than using a device. Say if you're playing shooter games, just hold a toy gun or something :) Think of the possibiities, man, it's like copying the wiimote, hey, the wiimote copied from remote...

Of course, it has to be made first, so can't get too excited about it...

Eh...I don't really care for the waving my arms around aspect that will probably happen with this.

When I play games I like to be lazy.

Did anybody actually brought or played game with the Nintendo power glove? I couldn't afford that thing when i was a kid... All i know is that the glove didn't last that long...

IMO, the glove is pretty good gadget for gaming, especially with the new technology... i won't hestitate to try it when it comes out.

Well, that sucks. Just because the Wii threw in waggle, no one else can do anything with motion or any other type of input because they would be trying to copy/beat Nintendo?

The bad thing about Flow, I have to sit up to play or else controlling it is very difficult.

Yea.. Controlling flow is really cool ect. But you definetally cant lay back in bed and play that good. Same with all the fricken WIi games.

Thats why I hope waggle isnt the future, I like relaxing when I play my games.

Motion is nice, but I also hope it doesn't become the norm. It's nice to have a side peripheral (like the eyetoy), but not as the system's main focus. Call me lazy if you want, but I don't see the point of having to waggle my arms around when I have perfectly fine controller that I can usually control with better percision than any sort of motion control.

Actually, I could swear I read a story with the same picture on it about a year ago before they announced what the Wii controller was going to look like. I think they were saying that was the Revolution's controller. I don't know how accurate that is, but I know I've seen that picture before.

I don't give a fuck whether this is copying Nintendo or if it really is purely their own brainchild. I think it'd be pretty cool. My statement was that they are doing it to beat Nintendo.

Again, why else would they be doing it? It's to get one up on their competitor. They certainly aren't doing it to further mankind or just as a hobby, or whatever else you had in mind.

Maybe they had this idea in the works already. I don't care. I would imagine that if this idea existed before the details of the Wii were announced that this is getting fast tracked a bit now since they already see how this motion sensing stuff is very popular.

So to answer your question: yes. No one else can do without copying/trying to beat Nintendo because that's what businesses do: try to make more money by having a better product than others---by beating them. I don't see why this is so surprising to you.

I don't care if it's a copy or not. I'd give it a try. Sounds pretty cool to me.

^_____^

Well said, don't give a damn about who's copying who... as long as the thing sounds cool, i don't give a woot :)

I like the comment about side peripherals, the main controller for the console should always be something like the traditional gaming interface. As for expansion, eye toys, beating drums etc, are cool interesting stuffs, but IMO, they should be secondary...

I'm not saying the Wii made a mistake or not, but the Wiimote is not quite the same as the traditional gaming interface, it offers more, i know i know... but what if i just want a regular controller like the wavebird?

I don't like Metal Slug Antho for the Wii at all, the wiimote is not ideal for that game (new ways to control, but who cares, i played that game countless times on the joystick or game controller).
