Might be true, but is the inquirer the most reliable source?

Good news? I guess? If this ups the price, they're fools. If the price stays the same, then it will be more appealing.
Personally, I'm glad my PS3 has an emotion engine included in it. I can upgrade the HDD if I want to, so this is a fine maneuver by Sony.

Can't you use an external HD on PS3's though ? Makes releasing one with a bigger HD seem a bit of a waste of time.
That being said I kinda wish I'd got a 20 Gb one with an Emotion Engine in it when they were about. Doesn't seem much chance of that now.

Sorry, it's been posted and discussed.
Really, what we really want to know is the pricing structure now with the 20GB gone.

This possibility has been posted and no, it's not confirmed yet:
Satoshi Fukuoka would not say how big the drive was going to be, but it is only one of the changes he is considering
as I've said, sony should just make their own branded hdd's and stick to one sku.

They registered an 80GB model. There was a press thing wasn't there?
Olden news as they say.

the INquirer is a legitimate tech website. not the national ENquirer that you see at checkstands across the country.

Which is never, since the PS3 is pretty much useless for you.

Wasn't it said pre-launch that there would not be just the two launch SKU's as they would change the hardware configs and other models/configurations would be available at later dates? Not the smartest thing, but I am fairly sure this was what has been planned for a good while.

Yea. Honestly didn't think it would come true. Those statements came from Ken K. if I remember correctly. They made it sound like they would make a PS3 version of the PSX.

The reason for the death of the 20GB and the addition of another larger HDD sku is simple. Sales haven't been as good as expected, they need to start making money on that system sooner rather than later.
Adding in a fairly cheap, larger hard drive that looks good because of a bigger number allows for higher priced units, units whose price increases is double or triple the price increase of the upgraded Hard Drive vs Old. Microsoft is doing the same thing with the Elite.

after the elite was announced, I wouldn't doubt anything no matter how implausible it sounds.
I do agree though-- the extra SKU is not needed and would appear to be a fucking stupid move. "hey everybody, we pulled the cheaper version because it wasn't selling [lies], but here's a more expensive one. yes, the public didn't buy the 20gb because they felt like they didn't have to work hard enough for it!"

You won't see the EE=less PS3s in NA stores for a few months.
