We all know that the PS3 accepts all sorts of HD/Flash devices via USB just fine. However the unique DIR structure of the iPod make it practically useless if you have 30 GB of music scattered in there. Has anyone heard anything about if Sony will finally allow the ps3 to recognize the iPod Structure considering it's the most popular mp3 player by far or will they continue avoid doing that? Or are they just doing this on purpose? I don't know....... Just a bit annoying since the 360 did have this functionality since launch.

Anyone hear anything yet? (My personal guess is if they ever allow us to have custom soundtracks like the 360)

Well, Sony did just recently start releasing iPod docks, which is a miracle itself. It seems that Sony has finally admitted it lost in that race and is no longer dominant in the portable music market. Since they've conceded it in some areas, I would say it might be likely for them to do so with the PS3. However, I'm not sure what kind of programming it may take, or if maybe they're planning to launch a music download service on the PS3. I think they already have one for PCs, right? I'm still shocked that MS hasn't rolled out the Zune store for the 360.

I'd say meh about it, but that's because I have some hatred for iPods. ;)

I haven't tried connecting my iPod to my PS3, but I assume what Zoglog is talking about is the fact that the iPod has two data partitions -- one for normal files (allowing you to use it like a portable hard disk) and one for music. The PS3 may not see the music partition at all, or if it does, it won't actually be able to use it because the songs and albums are stored in a semi-random fashion (ie all mixed up and with random names -- to help prevent people from easily sharing music using an iPod).

Yeah, if it ain't made by Sony, Mana Knight ain't interested.

I hate IPODS as well. I got a 2gb creative zen for 70$ where as a nano would be 150.. and mines smaller... Either way, I hate Ipods, but I could see this as a nice feature for people to utilize.

Personal hatred for the iPod is irrelevent (In Fact all the iPods I've gotten have been by pure chance, latest one in a raffle in a store in Akihabara). They're the most popular players out there, like it or hate it.

It's not a partition thing. The File structure used by the iPod and itunes is unique and a pain in the ass (my main reason for not likeing the iPod). Sure the ps3 recognizes it, but it is utterly useless for mp3 playback since it doesn't sort the thousands of mp3's/videos out from each of the 100's of DIRs. And how are the DIR's organized in the ipod? hell if I know. It seems all random to me (because it certainly doesn't have to do with album/artists/ or anything you might sort by).

It's not a hard thing to do, I'm just wondering if Sony is leaving it out on purpose.

the ipod played fine when I used it w/ my ps3. the ps3 sorts music the same way the ipod sorts it. each ipod song has information about each song... the ps3 has the same info, and you can enter the info for each song.

Yeah, but aren't the albums all mixed up?

I think you're confusing ID Tags with actual usabilit, you're missing the point completely. It's not that you can't play the mp3s, it's that getting to any logical way of playing them back is tedious and not even worth it since they are organized in the iPod in no discernable fashion.
