Welcome to Home Beta.

Home is a real-time, 3D networked community that serves as a meeting place for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) users from around the world, where they can interact, communicate, join online games, shop, share content and even build their own personal spaces. Home will be available as a free download from the PLAYSTATION®Store and will launch directly from the PS3 system's Home Menu.

I got in on the GAP when the PS2 network adapter came out I registered it so I could get my twisted metal online disc and they automatically sent me an invite to GAP. If you are in the GAP and didn't get the email, check your spam folder. I can't think of any reason why they would send the email to some GAP members and not others.

With only a select few G.A.P. members getting in, we imagine people are staring at their 30 person buddy lists in jealousy as a single one of their friends enjoys the thrills Home has to offer. Americans seem to be particularly jealous right now, as nobody on Western shores has yet confirmed their acceptance as of this writing. However, we've been hearing the date May 1st as confirmation for acceptance into the North American beta, so if that date is indeed true nobody will have to hold their breath for too much longer. - Kotaku

That would suck if they packed in the beta with some game that they think will perform poorly :)

With my experiance with Beta tests, the last phase is fairly open to most. That way they can stress test the servers. The early stages are used to find bugs, and keep things steady as they slowly increase the user numbers.

The 1st testers are most likely going to be furstrated with crashes and other random items (not that I wouldn't LOVE to be one) but I do expect Sony to open it up to most everyone in the coming months (and the article seems to hint at that).

Stress test should be exceptionally useful for Home, considering they're pushing streaming video and audio with multiple viewers. They'll want to make sure it's working nice before they open it up to the world.

Don't know. Maybe only in Europe, but I've read some people say they got the e-mail but wheren't in GAP here in the US. But it is the internet, so you can't believe everything you read.

No. This is North America, but all reports seem to be Canadian right now and until further notice, only on the store in HD.

Checking under the Blu-Ray trailers has revealed it for some people. Keep checking back throughout the day.

I wonder how far Sony will take these games until they start charging? They have the arcade cabinets, for instance. But they can't just put a lot of generic, classic-feeling arcade titles on there for free that might compete with the PSN downloads. So, I wonder how they will manage that?

Well, Sony ALREADY charges for games, so I feel that some things in Home they will charge for. Or, if you go to an arcade cabinet, it will just access the downloaded games on your HDD.

It's pretty neat; the avatar options are a lil' slim as of yet, but I have a blonde facial-hairless version of me that's otherwise somewhat accurate.

The game room is interesting. Bowling is a bit fun to play, and you can socialize at the same time. Bowling controls are on the wonky side, but you get used to them. The arcade games are kinda bleh thus far. Pretty much barebones "newgrounds" caliber stuff, though the racing game has a bit of an RC Pro-Am feel to it (without all the shit on the track).

The theater is cool - you can walk around to different rooms, and each marquee says what is inside (Lair video, GoW2 video, and movie trailers).

I haven't decorated my "homespace" yet, but when I do, I'll post impressions of that.

At least I get to play the beta of *something* today, since that Crackdown shit isn't working still. :lol:

As far as the game swap thing goes, I'll tell you how it works in this purely, nothing more than, hypothetical situation:

I go into my account and erase any stored credit card information I may have. After that I change my password to something temporary. I then PM you my login information and you use it to download Calling All Cars. You then follow the same steps I made for my account and I download something available on your account; let's say some new and exciting beta. I don't know, could be anything.

The game room is interesting. Bowling is a bit fun to play, and you can socialize at the same time. Bowling controls are on the wonky side, but you get used to them. The arcade games are kinda bleh thus far. Pretty much barebones "newgrounds" caliber stuff, though the racing game has a bit of an RC Pro-Am feel to it (without all the shit on the track).

The theater is cool - you can walk around to different rooms, and each marquee says what is inside (Lair video, GoW2 video, and movie trailers).

I haven't decorated my "homespace" yet, but when I do, I'll post impressions of that.

At least I get to play the beta of *something* today, since that Crackdown shit isn't working still. :lol:

also, do you notice being buggy or anything since it's in early beta?

Has anyone here sucessfully or know of someone, game shared Home?

I managed to get a copy and install it, but at the start screen when I try to accept the terms of use, I get a connection error.
It says it times out and can't connect the online world.

Anyone else heard of a similar problem? Is there a support page, or contact email I could write to?

Basically, for closed beta at least. Once open hits, you'll be able to sign up via the website. Word is Closed is ending this month so hopefully we'll see Open soon...

few comments:

i hope the theatre is constantly updated with interesting things... the same spiderman 3 trailer playing in the lobby needs to go...

voice chat needs some work...

the central lounge needs something more as there really isnt anything to do there...but i guess its just meant to sit around.

i hope we get to add our own personal pics to our home or something...im sure we will be able to add a tv or something...

Honestly, you're not missing a whole lot at the moment. Most of the cool stuff you saw Phil demoing aren't in it yet. Also it has a tendancy to lock up often. It's very much a beta.

I think I'd be all over it unlike people here. When I played FFXI, my main obsession was not leveling up or getting rare items but more like get all the best and nicest furnature I could find and create a great room.
