I have yet to see this game in stores locally.

I'm not too interested in the collectibility factor at this point either, just want to play.

My comic shop has a box of boosters on order for me for $101 or so, hopefully will be in stock sometime in the next week or so.

You should call your local comic shops that sell magic cards and see what they can do.

Good idea. It'd be nice to have some rares, but I've already invested in 5 theme decks, so I'm gonna have to take it easy on packs until I've at least got the game itself. :)

I've never played a card game before, but I thought this sounded interesting so I went looking around for it over the weekend - all sold out at Targets & Best Buys around here!

I'm gonna try my local comic shop later. I've got a 20% discount card there, so if they sell regular for $3.99, i can save a bit.

Target never got the cards, and I've bought out all 8 of Gamestop's booster packs. So is anybody interested in setting up trades for common cards? I'm missing some, but have a shitload of others.

Damnit, what was Sony thinking not shipping boosters and theme decks to retailers along with the bundle. I can't seem to find the cards anywhere, search every place that has the game and every hobby/comic/card store and nobody seems to have it. Damnit. Though this game is kind of making want to get back into MtG or Pokemon. Doh'

I've been to two TRUs and two Targets.

One TRU simply didn't have the cards. The other had them in R-Zone, inside plastic hardshells, hanging on pegs near the PS3 games. Boosters only, no decks.

Neither Target had them at all. Not in electronics, not in toys, and not with the rest of the cards near the front registers. There were also no empty pegs with EoJ info (like name or price), so I think they simply didn't get any yet. Only one of the Targets even had the Eye of Judgment bundle, and that was in the electronics section.

Hopefully we'll start to see more stock of both the game and the cards by mid-month. Seems like the initial launch shipment was really limited (compared to most new releases). Online backorder dates seem to be middle of November or beginning of December for restock.

The problem is, these types of games are usually sold to comic/game/card stores in boxes of boosters (no blister packaging) and decks. Most retail places just stock a few of these. Meanwhile, most card game shops don't carry new games like this because it's considered a video game, and they aren't aware it can be played without the PS3. Even then, there's still problems with playing this without a PS3 because starters don't include element tiles for the play mat, and some things just aren't explained well in the rules.

For example, attack zone diagrams aren't fully explained.

I wonder if us fans could demo this game in those kind of shops to get more players. But the second problem is getting PS3s into these stores.

Amazon has the game in stock, but I'm locked into FV (per other threads, they'll verbally take your cancelation, but end up shipping the game out anyway).

Still, none of my local stores has this game in stock. I think the overall allocations were low, and clearly, depending on where you are the game supply may or may not be exceeding demand.

I'll be So Cal. in a couple of weeks. If Frys' or somewhere has some pre-BF/Thanksgiving deal on the game, I may just bite the bullet and pick it up if it doesn't ship before then.

I was finally able to track down a Gamerush with an EoJ in stock. There was one flaw i didnt even think of until playing it. The whole gameplay is based on the player's honor system. Kinda sucks knowing that the person your playing against could just be sitting there with his entire deck in his hand seeking out the strongest cards in his deck.

the game is supposed to make you register the cards you have beforehand and it tells you which card you've drawn in an online match so you cant just pretend to have drawn the perfect card for the situation

You can do that to the computer but you can't do it on line... The deck is shuffeled and delt by the playstation during on-line matches.

That being said does anybody know where I can order Japanese Theme Decks? Also will Japanese cards work with the US version 0of the games? If not is the Japanese Text available for the US cards? Thrying to teach my wife the game but Japanese is her first language. A Japanes theme deck would go a long way in her understanding the basics.

That's a tough question. My experiences w/FV have been positive overall. I've placed several orders with them and two were delayed due to their distributors (Heavenly Sword and EOJ). However, once they ship, the $.99 USPS shipping has taken on average about 3-5 business days from ship date, which is on par with amazon. In other threads, CAGs have reported that they tried canceling orders days or even weeks in advance, but still were charged for and sent the game--even with verbal or email confirmation of the cancelation.

Still, they've had some of the lowest pre-order prices for games I've seen. EOJ for example, came out to $59 shipped (w/new member $5 off coupon = NEWMEM5F).

I just received an email confirmation that my EOJ order shipped today, so hopefully I'll get it later in the week. Of course, I'll report back on how that goes.

I guess I can pass a recommendation on them with the caveat that you may have a difficult time backing out of orders/pre-orders once you place them.

Toywiz is a pretty good site. They've been around forever, theres a coupon code for $5 off $50, cabin;. No idea how much they charge for shipping though.

I went to my local comic shop, unfortunately they will not be carrying eye of judgment. I went to target and picked up a Biolith deck and 5 boosters. Got 2 cubics in the boosters, those things are great for summoning the high cost stuff. I got one ultra rare, "Exalted Elven Diety". Opening up the packs and looking for rares really brings back the nostalgia of when i was into Magic & Vs. System.

Has anyone seen much advertisement of this game? Seems like Sony/Hasbro/WotC is taking a quiet, word-of-mouth approach with the release. I might be wrong on this, but while it does makes sense to me to not spend a lot of money on traditional hype, this is the holiday season and Sony really really needs to push some new IP/exclusive game software content along side it's current "lower-cost hardware" approach, and EOJ is just about the only original, exclusive, "innovative" thing they have for PS3 this year. I might be missing the TV spots and other stuff, if they exist, but I also understand that this might be the right way to market the game itself as TCGs/CCGs are a niche market, but I'm just wondering if this is the right move for PS3 in general. I mean, EOJ seems like the kind of thing that could break the mold for a CCG and open it up to a wider audience. I'm not into the genre at all, but this game is something that generates my interest.

Has anyone seen much advertisement of this game? Seems like Sony/Hasbro/WotC is taking a quiet, word-of-mouth approach with the release.

I saw it in a set of demo videos on a unit in Best Buy. Until then, I hadn't heard about it. The videos were set to cycle through -- I didn't choose it myself.

The demo video was convincing to me. I believe my exact words were "<drool> <drool> must have <drool>".

But, apart from that, I haven't seen much. Um, make that anything. A preview in Game Informer, and a small one at that. That's it. It's been pretty low key, and the general non-availability of cards means its flying under the radar pretty much everywhere.

Even the product itself tends to be behind counters or off in different areas because of its size. If you weren't looking for it, you could very well miss it. Heck, I knew it was out and I still didn't see it in Gamestop until after I had paid for something else!

Really, this is a great thing to advertise the PS3 with, because its unlike anything else out there. And while it's a niche audience, it's a rabid niche audience. Maybe they didn't feel the need to advertise generally, since those who would be early adopters/big spenders would already know.

Still seems like a missed opportunity, though.

Nope, haven't seen any real advertising for it either. And most stores I go to when I ask about boosters or decks have no clue what I'm talking about. The only reason I know the game exist is because of Penny Arcade. And the only reason I got the game is because I used to play magic and pokemon and other ccgs.

Actually, ive turned G4 on at 3 different times of the day and they were showing commercials for it. Other than that, I havent seen many ads.

Sorry about the coupon code. It is cabin. For some reason whenever I open Netscape, my Firefox browser gets all screwy and everything posts in html code (i even have to type in '<br>' '<br>' to get spaces, since it defaults everything as one paragraph).

I'm hoping Blockbuster gets some boosters in, with flipping, they'd end up being about $2 a pack.

Just got the game today. My first card based game ever. Never have really been a fan but this game just seemed really interesting. Played my first game and I have got to say this thing is going to be awfully addicting. I lost my first game mostly because I have no idea what I am doing, but once i figure it all out hopefully I can pull a win out. Grabbed a few booster packs as well. I still don't really understand the whole deck building thing but I heard buying the booster packs makes the game more fun. bought 5 packs and got a water phantom card.

YMMV- Went in a toysrus to the Rzone and asked if they had any booster packs. The girl looked on the shelf and then checked the computer and came back and said sorry they didn't have any. I go by the board games and looked by the cards section and they had had about 50 booster packs. I go back to Rzone and tell them where the cards were and they would sell better if they were by the game.

Try playing on the lower difficulties as you get used to the game, then slowly ramp up.

If it keeps beating you, there may be nuances of strategy you're missing out on since you're preoccupied just learning the basics.

Also stick with the starter deck, unchanged, and play against the computer with a starter deck as well. Then look how it uses its cards against you, because you're playing with the same deck you can use the same tactics against it later.

Well, picked up 3 booster packs today for $3.60 each, and got 1 ultra-rare card. Probably gonna sell it on ebay since it goes for about $30. My reasoning is that with that money, I can go and buy 7-9 more boosters >_>

My roomate dared me to play it on expert, and I almost won. I'm sure it was a fluke though.

I really need to find more time to play this game. I'm just too lazy to set up the camera and I haven't played online yet, because I reason that online people are better than the computer, and I can't beat the computer sometimes. Also, my 360 is coming in soon so that leaves me with even less time.

Edit: Oh yeah, at least you didn't cause yourself to lose lol. Such as placing a monster in the wrong field or attacking your own guys. I didn't know cards that can attack in more than one direction could do friendly fire when I first played.

Edit2: Rolento, if you ever want to play online, let me know. I'd be up for it since it seems we're about the same level in this game.

Actually, Suko. The people online are human, and are prone to mistakes and bad planning. I really do recommend playing online, if you find someone of the same or lower rank than you, it should be fine.

The computer is excellent at these kind of perfect information games. Ones where it just needs to plot out a bunch of possible moves with what it has and choose the best result. It's the same AI they use in chess despite the addition of special card abilities.

I'm up for it... maybe this weekend... I'll add you on my PS3.

as for online, I played one last night and played in a room set as "Training" (also, they have one set for "Beginnier" which helps). I almost won the game, but placed my minion on th wrong field making it die... >_<

anyone know what large chains carry the cards?

suko_32
12-13-2007, 10:09 PM
So I just played my first online match. It was against a 34-27 guy. All the cards he summoned had perfect dodge....and I couldn't touch them. Luckily, I barely won on the 20th turn. Also, I gained 4 honor. Is that considered little?

RelentlessRolento
12-13-2007, 10:11 PM
nice. I have yet to win an online match out for the 2 I played... today I picke dup 2 boosters and the fire deck. so far I really do not like wood cards, but love fire, then earth, then water, then biolith, and then barely wood.

suko_32
12-13-2007, 10:30 PM
My favorite so far is fire as well. I think I've picked up 7 booster packs so far. They are funded by the 10% Gamestop coupon + credit & the ultra rare card I sold of $30. Honestly, it's really hard to hold back buying boosters. I want to keep buying and buying them. So far I'm doing a excellent job of holding back. Buying a 360 and looking at my backlog pile probably helps control the urge too.

Off topic but can't wait to play the 360 when it comes in!

How many booster boxes would I need to buy to guarantee I get all the cards? How many of each individual card is one allowed to use in game? Yu-Gi-Oh! allows up to three of the same card for example in a deck if there aren't any additional restrictions on the card in question. I haven't played EoJ yet so I don't know the rules. I'd like to get a suitcase for EoJ if possible. If you're not familiar with the term suitcase in CCGs it refers to owning the max playable limit of every card in the game.

What's the cheapest place to buy booster boxes? CCG Armory has them for $104.95. I think they used to sell them for less than that though. It seems ToyWiz hiked their prices up by about $50 on the boxes. I think they used to sell them for around $100.

I was having a lot of problems with the camera due to lighting. I got me a lamp called "OTT-LITE TrueColor 13W Clip Lamp (http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat3729&PRODID=prd42581&source=search)", which I can clip onto the side of my playing table, and my problems have gone away. The lamp is positioned low enough so that the light is not shining into my eyes and it provides a consistent level and unifom distribution of light for the camera. There is some weirdness with 50 hz setting, but it works great on 60 Hz automatic. I thought I'd let others know.

I love it, but the depth ATM is lacking due to limit of card veriety. once the second expansion comes out, that's when the game has more of a chance of growing strong legs.

on a side note, I found a site (forgot it already) that sells sets of 3 of every common in the game for $7.99. not bad if you are lacking alot and don't want to spend a ton on boosters or boxes.

Go under deck creation and then click register deck. You have to show the eye the cards in order to register the deck. If you have multiple cards in your deck you have to show both at the same time.

I just went out and picked up like 12 boosters. Pulled some pretty badass stuff.

Pulled a Pursuer of Saint Dhees. 6mana/6activ 4hp/5+attack, fire aspect. Pursuer of Saint Dhees ' attack is equal to 5+ the number of other creatures on the board. The activation cost to attack with PSD is 5 less than listed. Rare. Immediatly going into the deck.

Exalted Elven Deity: 9/5costs 9hp/3atk Targets all enemies on non-wood fields, destroy if on Biolith. Ultra Rare. Also pulled the Novorus Gravekeeper, the Earth version of this card.

Was hoping to pull some of the Biolith URs though, I love my Biolith pre-construct and they're just cool.

RelentlessRolento
12-29-2007, 02:34 AM
nice. I'm hoping to pick up most of the fire cards since I find them playing the way I like alot...

I'm learning that in order to have a good well rounded deck you need to try and have a deck split into to elements so you're not screwed over so easily. An easy way of doing this is if you have a fire deck, instead of having fire titans, use the wood or other elemental titan.

Logain8955
12-29-2007, 03:29 AM
Or you could just say forget it and go heavy Biolith. Though, almost all Bios have Summon Lock on them.

I really cant wait for expansion 1 to see where the game goes from here. I'd really like to see some nasty combo heavy plays.

RelentlessRolento

I'm a bit new to the game. But I've been playing the following way: library face down, draw a card from the library, continue with all the phases. However I read on another board that they spread the deck face up over the table in their own little piles so they can find a certain card faster. Is that the way you are suppose to play?

When playing online, the game does the shuffling and drawing for you, which is why people play with their cards laid out. This keeps people from using stacked decks or swapping cards out of the eye's view, since the game knows what you've got at any given time.

also, I recommend on people to hold out on getting cards from the first set due to (this happens with all CCGs and TCGs) the second set giving a deeper and more specific play style for cards. Also, usually later sets have more powerful cards vs. first sets due to the first set lacking new rules.

Update about the second set of cards that'll be coming out. (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/02/15/hot-off-the-eye-of-judgment-card-press-set-2/)

Just in case you missed it (or you just got your PS3 this holiday) THE EYE OF JUDGMENT hit stores last year introducing a whole new way to play with your PS3. Combining the best elements of trading card gaming, the new PLAYSTATION Eye, and next gen console tech, EOJ started waves through the gaming community. Since its launch, the EOJ community has started growing, and fast! We have seen dedicated Web sites spawning all over the net and we have read that the community is hungry for more cards. Well, today we have some good news!

We just received our first batch of Set 2 US cards from the Wizards of the Coast printing factory. Stay tuned for upcoming release info and more details, but for now take a sneak peek of some of the new cards, creatures and abilities that will for sure shift people’s gameplay styles. I’m sure there will be lots of questions - we’ll try to answer them all, both in the comments below and on the official EOJ forums.

When I first saw this game it looked too complicated. On Thursday I went to pick up the MGS4 saga dvd and my daughter saw it behind the counter in the case in a bag, it was used but it had the game, camera, mat, and starter deck. We asked how much it was and it was $29.99, about $27 after edge card. After setting it up my kids love it and its not hard to learn at all. Complete game package for $27 was worth the deal.

the original set lacks depth. the new set is entirely about depth. I am hoping that makes my interest pique again in this.

I remember Wombat saying that he was having a hard time getting the PSEye to read his cards. After playing during the day, and having all my cards read instantly and correctly, I thought he was crazy.

Then I played at night. Most card wouldn't register. I put a small halogen lamp illuminating the board, but it didn't seem to read the cards still.

What do you guys use to play EoJ at night?

I used this lamp (http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat3247&PRODID=prd42581) and it worked well (using 60 Hz automatic).

I feel that I should warn all that are interested in investing their time and money into EOJ that the second set of cards that was released in Japan and Europe is overpowered. So, if you only use set 1 you will be at a serious disadvantage against a player with set 2, especially if you online opponent uses a deck built around "Zealots" or "Missionaries" (which are broken/unbeatable), which most do. I was very addicted to EOJ, but now I have completely given up on it. As far as I'm concerned, in their greed (trying to make everyone upgrade) Sony (SCE Studios) has ruined EOJ.

I just picked this up yesterday; after figuring out how to play and losing to the computer 4 times straight, I won my first game!

One Question: Besides Gamestop, who seems out of cards, what other major chains carry booster cards?

Most chain stores are sold out of the game, you may find random starters and boosters at scattered Gamestop, Target, and TRU locations. Your best bet to buy locally is to go to your local independent gaming/comic stores and see if they still have product. You can also try EBay or the online CCG card stores, best deal I've seen is a booster box for $80 at coolstuffinc.com

Mine came in the mail from Amazon on Friday, and I got a booster box as part of my payment for judging the VS System Mega Weekend tournaments at the Chicago gaming store called Pastimes so I'll be ready and waiting for all CAG challengers!

Edit: Never mind about the price on coolstuff, it was $80 last week but now it's up to $92. EBay is your best bet online but you should always order local when it pertains to CCG's if you can.

Well I just got a PS3 and this was one of the first games I picked up. Definitely not a CAG purchase at 69.99 but I am a sucker for these kinds of games.

After waiting through the 4 hour and 10 minute patch (for set 2) I finally got to play and I have a couple of questions.

1. Where do you guys buy set 2 packs? Gamestop was all out and Target didn't sell them. I might stop by Toys r us. Are there any good online sites? Most the ones I see are charging 3.99 a pack but the shipping is crazy.

2. This one confuses me a little. So I have to buy the expansion for set 2 from PSN for 14.99, but that doesn't really get me anything right? (seeing as I download 1300+ files for set 2 as an update) I also have to pay 3.99 a pack to get the set 2 cards? What is the 14.99 for, the privilege to buy more cards or are there new game modes? Am I missing something?

3. I'm not thrilled that the PS3 Eye has a USB cable. I use a projector and my AV rack is a long way from where I sit. So I either need a long usb cord extension or some kind of power wireless usb/bluetooth hub. This is probably crazy talk but does anyone else have a similar setup? I'm struggling with how this will work much like my DDR setup (which is why I don't play DDR right now).

So far I am enjoying the game, I've had a few card recognition problems but I think its the light. PSN name is Flavanation if anyone wants a match. Just starter cards so far.

Thanks!

To answer some of your questions.

1. I got mine from my local Gamestop, but Amazon carries them as well.

2. Yep. $14.99 for the privilege to buy more packs basically...

3. I too, have a projector setup. The eyetoy absolutely sucks in low light situations, so unless you have a lamp nearby, and you can still see your projector, you probably won't be able to do too much with it in the dark. I purchased an extremely long USB extension off of monoprice that works fine for this. It's not ideal, but I can run the cable around the room to the table that I use for EOJ and everything works out for the most part.

Are any of you interested in maybe getting a group together to try to set up games and tournaments for this. I know there are a lot of new players with the Walmart sale so maybe we could agree to work with the starter deck and set 1 boosters to start and then maybe some of us will get into the second set. I personally thought about buying one of the themed decks, but not right away if I have to pay for the privilege.

Glad there is some interest. I played the computer for one game and still need to watch the tutorial, but I have a couple of questions.

What does the B mean on some of the cards when it shows it for defense? That they can defend from attacks from behind? Also, if you use a card like the one that can turn opponents characters, do you leave it when you're done or pick it back up? I think I need to figure out card positioning a lot better, but I'm at least getting the basics zi think.

The B means that's their back... if you attack from that direction it does 1 extra damage as far as I can tell, and obviously no counter attack. And whenever you use the sorcery type spells (ie turn a target) you put it in your discard pile immediately after. If someone uses it on your creature the game with tell you to turn the card around before anything else can happen.

My biggest problem my first game was that I never looked at what makes someone actually win. Now I think I've reached the point where the starter deck is just not fit to handle the computer deck (I'm up to the third or fourth).

I think happy is incorrect (I just got the game yesterday so I can be wrong). I think the "B" is the blindspot for the character. The back is always the opposite of the characters current facing position, but if you look on some cards, there are multiple "B" squares.

That could be the better term, but either way, attacking from that direction adds one damage. I took the learn from playing approach so I don't know any of the terms, just what they do. The creatures with multiple spots seem to be the magic attackers for the most part.

I just picked this up from the Wal-Mart deal, and I have a question, particularly about expansions.

First, from what I've heard, to play with the set two cards I'd need to download a $14.99 expansion pack from PSN (which I'm pretty against at this point). In addition, I've heard the terms 'broken' and 'overpowered' being thrown around in this thread with reference to set two. So I'm already inclined not to get in with the new cards.

Second, I really don't intend to get in to the collectible aspect of the game. I'd just like to have about three or four different decks that are comparatively balanced to play my friends with. Which brings me to my overarching question: are the set one pre-constructed decks relatively balanced? I'm assuming they're better than the starter deck, which, I'm ashamed to say, I still haven't won with against the easiest AI. I'm thinking of getting Biolith, Fire, and Water. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Really wondering if I should bother trying to play this game. I just watched my homeboy struggle to lay a card down (wouldn't let him no matter what). Maybe I'll wait until they make a game like this out of a CCG I actually used to play (Magic, METW, Texas Hold 'Em).

A Magic version of this game could seriously kick ass. Of course, I don't have any moxes but I got plenty of nice rarities I could play with.

I am sure I could beat the computer IF I could get through a single round without technical problems. Almost every game I get to point where the game simply wont recognize a move and I spend my entire turn futilely attempting to get it to.

If you have trouble getting the Eye to recognize the cards, simply do this trick.

Completely cover the eye and uncover it. The rush of light into the eye will allow it to see whatever cards instantly (works really well for me).

Recommend getting better light condition though.

Set 3 dated and on the way, along with trophies. (http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/09/15/the-eye-of-judgment-set-3-coming-adds-trophies/)

The Eye of Judgment continues to expand. The revolutionary Eye-enabled card game will get its second expansion pack on October 16th. Biolith Rebellion Set 3 will add 100 new cards to EoJ. Once again, players will have to purchase the expansion on the PS Store, in addition to new cards that will make their way to retail stores.

With Biolith Rebellion Set 3, the total number of cards goes up to 310. Set 3 will also enable other content, such as XMB Trophy support, and a "set of new abilities that encourage more tactical playing based on creature formation." Set 3 will also add some background bonus material.

There's not really enough cards for two players if you just split it, but you can certainly test the game that way.

Most game shops should at least have a starter deck.

You can use any of set 1, which is cards 1-110. Booster boxes are going for $85-88 shipped on ebay. The link below equals out to being about $2.36 a pack, which is much better than the $4.28 if you bought retail.

It's printed on the card. There's a small icon in the bottom right of the card art. It tells you the Set # it's from (1,2,3 so far) and the color of the icon indicates it's rarity.
