I see the game comes with a 14-day free trial for City of Heroes, but a 30-day free gameplay for CoV. I was under the impression that CoV was an expansion to CoH - am I wrong?

I might jump on this because I'm a sucker for collector's edition games and I've always wanted to try CoH.

CoV is a stand-alone expansion, like the Guild Wars series.

You might want to check CompUSA for these; if they have it, it'll be $10. Heck, they're available for $12 shipped from the Amazon third-party merchants.

CoV is not an expansion to CoH. They are capable to be played independently. It's also worth noting that, should you buy both, you'd only have to pay one monthly fee.

I guess the best way to explain it is imagine World of Warcraft, make the Alliance one game and the Horde another game, only make their respective classes similar, but a good deal different.
