I don't know how many of you have used the media reader in your 60 gig PS3 (given the amount of shit that model gets, probably not many) but I tried mine for the first time tonight.

We had our first child a couple of months ago and I've been taking pictures like mad. My current card reader is a piece of junk that inevitably causes my computer a lot of grief, so I decided to try the card reader in my PS3 just to have a look at the latest batch of photos. I stuck the card in, went to Photos and choose slideshow, photo album, to look at them.

Wow! It took what I knew to be some crappy photos and made them actually enjoyable to look at. The real time effects were nothing that my Mac couldn't handle but I really didn't expect to see this on a game console! I used the slideshow feature on the 360 I had for a couple of months and it was blah.

The slideshow on the PS3 was so awesome I am going to take my favorite photos and put them on the HD so I can wow company with them.

One of the cool things was that the PS3 read the EXIF data from the photos and arranged them by date and time and labeled them, etc. If you haven't tried it, you should. It's very cool.

So what else can my PS3 do that I'm missing? (I know about Folding@home.)

Uhh...

It can store and play all your music?

You can play the music while you have your slideshow going?

You can burn and convert DVD's on your computer then upload the files and watch them off your PS3's harddrive?

Kind of hard to answer "what you don't know" unless the things you mentioned where the only things you know...

PS3 is amazing, i use the card reader often and it loads everything quickly and just smooth like it is running on the hdd.

Linux is something i use on my ps3 but that depends if you willing to spend time with it. Also PS3 allows 1.5 fast forward on dvds and bluray with sound and slow motion with sound. Slow motion creates funny times.

Thanks for the snide comments. That was very much appreciated...

Anyway, I know about the obvious stuff, but the slide show thing took me by surprise. If you had asked me "can your PS3 show photos?" I would have said yes but I didn't know how well it does it. I guess what I'm asking is "what does it do well enough to be noteworthy?"

Uhh, I'd read the manual.
PS3 is really just about playing games, and watching BD movies.

Sorry.

Snide? My remark made sense, how can I tell you what you don't know? Seriously. You asked the odd question, I attempted to help.

Here is the online manual. (http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/index.html) Maybe that'll make more sense to you. All I'll say there are at least 3 options for display and play back to play with in each of the tabs photo/music/videos.

It makes a really good steak. Just need to make sure you marinate it for about 10 hours before putting it on.

One of the slideshow modes has face-recognition and the camera will pan in and out during the presentation.

You should check it out.

Same, that made not want to buy a PS3. Oh how I can't wait for the PS9. Why must you taunt me, why! Err I mean yea, it plays games and movies, who cares what else it does. Oh and helps find a cure for cancer, seriously.

Yeah, the pic slide off mem cards is pretty cool... you can zoom in the pics using the controller and kinda scroll left/right too (not all the way, i'm guessing have to do mem processing). I got company the other day and i pop the mem card with family pics and people are impressed (one guy asked what software did i use, i said it's a PS3).

Huh? I thought the 20gig model got the most bashing. Personally I'm a 20-version fan cause it's cheaper, I dont like/need wifi, and I'd rather upgrade the HD size myself. Oh and have absolutely zero need for a media reader.
