What the fuck. This is like the 4th/5th system this has been the DOTD for, with the Wii version being 2 days ago...

Damnit! I just bought this game for $19.99. Aargh!

Edit: Realized there is an Amazon post-order pricing guarantee. Hopefully, Amazon'll get me my five bucks soon. You know, cuz I'm a cheapass:)

Can't be that bad. I heard it was much like the X-Box (regular) version, so more game content and better story-telling. Might pick it up later, although I'm feeling an X-Box version for the bigger levels and better graphics.

Hopefully the XBox version goes up next. It was the *BEST* XBox game of 2006 and pretty much one of the last games I want for XBox (outside of Dark Alliance 2, Psychonauts and Call of xxxxxx)

Sorry, but I'll wait until it gets to $9.99. Any of the Tom Clancy games used to be good when the series started out, but now it's getting ridiculous with the spin-offs.

I saw these two deals throught the week so far that have been better than the DOTD for a few days now...

Hardly. The DOTD is still a relatively NEW game. The games you linked are YEARS old.

Sure, this is the same game 15 times across multiplatforms, but come on.

Everyone should *KNOW* not to stay up for the DOTD. When was the last time it was legit a blockbuster? Really now? This circle jerking of boo hooing must stop and is exactly why people want ONE DOTD thread.

Some people like me dont stay up for the dotd. I dont find any point to it because i got numerous things that i have to deal with that are way more important to me. If someone finds a game fun regardless of how new it is, it shouldn't matter

How high are you right now?

If this was the xbox version I would buy it. Guess by the fact that amazon has this on sell in its many reincarnations. It didn't sell to well.

No, you've got that backwards. This is exactly why I want a new thread each day. With one mega thread I have to wade through each day's pages of bitching and moaning to get to the deal. With new threads I only have to read it once and I'm done, unless there happens to be a relevant discussion.

Well, no. The idea is that the OP (or moderators) would update the thread title and the first post in the thread with the new deal each day, so that wouldn't be an issue. But Cheapy said he was worried that it wouldn't get done, and would prefer that a new thread be created each day. Still, now that there are soooo many repeats and lukewarm deals, I wonder if a single thread might not be better.

Yeah get Chaos Theory for the XBox, or PS2 whatever. Chaos Theory was the best single player experience from what everyone has said on the boards (although I got stuck in it, and I've only beat Double Agent out of all the Splinter Cells) and of course online/multiplayer wise was the best version to. If you have an XBox I would wait on a Double Agent DOTD, or go to Gamestop and buy Chaos Theory for around $6ish used.

I haven't played the PC one, but I plan on getting the PS2 version simply because it has split-screen co-op missions, and according to IGN, does a much better job of filling in the blanks on the story part of it.

course, I don't own an x-box anymore, so that option's out for me.

In what way would a single thread be better? I just don't see the upside at all. What does a single thread offer to offset the horrendous spamming it gets?

garfep
04-30-2007, 05:08 PM
Yeah, I think that the current system has worked fine. With the exception of the first three minutes when some duplicate threads pop up, I think that having individual threads and moving them to the graveyard has worked better. With all the repeat deals, in a single thread something like "picked up Splinter Cell for $14.99!" would be confusing since some versions were higher priced. It's easier to just pop into the graveyard and continue the unconfusing discussion about a particular deal than it is to sift through a 75 page thread to find the 2 pages that pertain to what you're talking about.

I don't have strong feelings either way, but having one thread would allow you to subscribe to it and have it show up in your user control panel (and if the title was changed appropriately, that would be an easy way to see what the deal is every day). It would also serve as a repository for the past deals of the day so you can compare and see what has come up before, and it would give us a place to put an FAQ section that people could look to.

Okay. I don't agree with those outweighing the negatives, but at least it's some sort of coherent point. thanks.

BTW, you're the OP, might want to update the title to $11.99.

I got an idea for those who complain. Have an archive thread or section where older DOTDs can go. That way everyone will be happy and we can have a fresh thread every day to make sure no one misses out on a deal because they have to go through pages of comments to see if a price dropped down more than once.

I don't stay up for the DOTD either. Your response completely MISSES the point that the game you linked to can and have been found for that for *FOREVER* and your complaints about a NEW game being on sale for cheap is null.

I don't doubt that a game can be fun regardless of age. My SNES is hooked up alongside my current gen consoles... but your point was that this deal sucked because it wasn't as good as your clearance games. Sorry, you're wrong.

Edit: I have no feelings either way, but reading this thread yesterday completely irked me. I can see why people DO feel one way or antother. To the poster that said my point was exactly why they didn't want one thread, I can see that as well. My comment was more yelling at the children to sit down so we can just drive through the annoying mountains. ;-)
