So I spent the past week on and off researching getting a headset for the PS3.

Basically any bluetooth headset for a cel phone should work, but.... With the 1.60 firmware update, many stopped working...

I also was looking into the best headsets known to man, and then cross referencing it with the list of headsets that work with the ps3 firmware 1.60+. I ended up arriving at the conclusion, that spending a lot of many could be a waste, as there does not seem to be a perfect headset yet (regardless of PS3), they all have their faults.

After realizing that there does not appear to be a perfect headset, I decided to get something 'good' for cheap, then if I feel necessary, I can upgrade when the perfect one comes out.

I arrived at the Jabra BT125. It is bluetooth 2.0, and has worked with all versions of PS3 firmware. It gets great reviews from cel phone review sites, and ps3 users. And... you can pick it up in a BM store for $30~$40 USD, or pick up an 'open-box' one off of eBay for $9.99 plus $6 shipping.

What is it missing? DSP noise cancellation, caller id, vibrate. I didn't feel any of these things would matter for gaming, except maybe the noise cancellation, but my living room ain't that loud. When I upgrade, I will likely go for DSP.

Anyway, I thought I would post my experience, as I figured anyone wanting a cheap wireless headset for the PS3; I'll save you some research. You can pick one up on ebay for $15~$20. Can't go wrong with that price, and more expensive headset won't add much to your PS3 experience.

If you don't want to take my advice, read this thread before buying just anyold headset:http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&thread.id=898874 Also make sure the headset you are buying works with 1.6/1.7 firmware.

I have no vested interest the bt125

If you're looking for one for your phone and ps3 I really recommend checking out is the plantronics voyager 510. You can easily find it for $50 or less, the dsp is very good and it can be paired with two devices and then switch between them.
