It's always fun when you call a client to try and resolve the issue, and find that they are using pirated software.

On top of that, the pirated software completely fucked up their machine. For example, they installed Office XP on one machine using a zipped file, which came conveniently paired with a "cdkey.txt" file. (I had to use Webex to remote log into their machine, so I saw all of this).

What happened is something I've never seen before, but I can understand how Windows got fucked by it. Basically, some dumbass installed Office XP from this zipped file, but they obviously didn't use one formatted to be done from a zipped file, so now - and this AMAZING - the C drive on that computer thinks it is a CD drive.

I am not even kidding. It has a CD drive icon and everything. Windows still shows it as a 120 gig HD, but the damn thing thinks it is a CD drive. You can add/delete/move files, but Windows honestly doesn't truly know wtf the drive itself is.

So when I tried to map out a drive and access it, it kept telling me it couldn't find the setup.ini file. When I deleted the pirated bullshit, it kept trying to access the mapped drive as a file, not a drive at all. There's no way for me to map it out, and thus no way to solve the problem (this is for a peer-to-peer network, and our software requires a mapped drive, so they are totally SOL right now).

Add to this about twenty other things this client's tech fucked up, and their entire machine is shot to hell and back, where it was then shot to hell again.

I have a feeling the person who did this was the woman I was on the phone with actually, because she got really quiet and passively angry once I was telling her that her machine was fucked nine ways to Sunday.

So I guess it doesn't help that I told her she mostly likely needs to format everything and start over from scratch.

There's a lesson in this, kids - know about your shit and how to use it, and make sure whatever goddamn Geek Squad numbnut high school script kiddie hacker who wrote his own version of Artillery actually makes the attempt to RTFM, or else your entire insurance agency is going to be down for a few days and lose you a few thousand bucks in bidness.

80 minutes of my last work day devoted to this nonsense, and now I've got to type up a goddamn report on it.

Well I got a call from Penn Station for a job interview. But I still don't know if I have a job at olive garden. I'm calling olive garden at 3pm when they guy gets in. Penn Station is local place that makes subs, they make really really good subs. The only cooking would be a grill to cook the meat on, and a deep fryer.

The setup is that cases are created and we call the agencies back, which I prefer over "we've got 25 people on hold, and you get stuff based on luck of the draw." With this I can see (usually) case issues before I call 'em back, which is good because I know what needs to be done before I call back. I say "usually" because people are still stupid and will write things like "our computer is not workin" as if that helps me in any way.

But this place is pretty laid back. I can wear jeans and tshirts and surf the net while on calls. I've had places before where I had to wear biz casual and couldn't so much as check my e-mail. So I prefer this setup above the others.

Mostly I need to stop doing this line of work, and get one where I just write nonsense all day. That would be awesome. I wouldn't even care if I made much money or not. Just something where I didn't do customer relations or deal with dumbasses, and instead write funny columns or something.

Tried CL a long time ago (before I even offered it here), that was a mess, and I don't know... I ran a DVD on it, and it ran it but it felt like something was off. I just get a *really* bad feeling about it, and I don't want to Ebay it or sell it to someone on CAG and it breaks a week later, like I've heard happening to PLENTY of refurbs.

It figures that after I sent mine in, they started the program where they actually fixed your 360 and sent your 360 back. On closer inspection too, the 360 they sent me back is kind of dinged and isn't really all that great.

I don't have time to send it BACK to MS to go for a third one, and I am 99% certain that once I sell it, this thing will go dead in a week and I will have to eat the refund and deal with a broken 360 when it gets sent back.

If I can throw it at EB, it becomes their problem if something happens in a week, and not mine. It's one less thing I have to worry about.

I've sold tons of systems on Ebay and elsewhere and this is the only one I really get a bad feeling selling. With my luck, the piece of shit would break in transit.

This is the only thing I've ever had that I've felt uncomfortable selling.

This thing is more hassle than it's worth. I don't know if the Edge card 10% stacks on a system trade-in (I know you can't get 10% off used systems... but it says nothing about getting an extra 10% on trade-in's), and there is ANOTHER 10% trade-in coupon in Game Informer that stacks. It's just a matter of calling the 20 EB's / GS's here until I find someone willing to do it.

I could probably get around $240 with the accessories I have for it when all is said and done (once I can stack the coupon), not worry about ever having a refund or a bitchy customer, or get $280 in Ebay (which is what someone with the same set up as mine got) and then pay Ebay fee's, shipping it, blah blah.

I'll take $40 less to not ever worry about it again, and take advantage of the b2g1 free to get some Wii games.

At this point, selling this thing is a huge hassle, and I can sell it to EB, get some games for me, get some games to sell, since I don't have to go out of my way to sell a game, and it's a huge load off my shoulders.

That's what I'm doing hopefully, stacking it with the coupons... systems work towards that then, I assume? I don't know if the Edge card 10% stacks on a system trade-in (I know you can't get 10% off used systems... but it says nothing about getting an extra 10% on trade-in's), and there is ANOTHER 10% trade-in coupon in Game Informer that stacks. It's just a matter of calling the 20 EB's / GS's here until I find someone willing to do it.

I could probably get around $240 with the accessories I have for it when all is said and done (once I can stack the coupon), not worry about ever having a refund or a bitchy customer, or get $280 in Ebay (which is what someone with the same set up as mine got) and then pay Ebay fee's, shipping it, blah blah.

I'll take $40 less to not ever worry about it again, and take advantage of the b2g1 free to get some Wii games.

At this point, selling this thing is a huge hassle, and I can sell it to EB, get some games for me, get some games to sell, since I don't have to go out of my way to sell a game, and it's a huge load off my shoulders.

I'd suggest either getting one from OnCore PowerSystems (www.oncorepower.com) or Fedco Electronics (http://www.fedcoelectronics.com/). OnCore and Fedco batteries last for 12 months' time under warranty. I use Fedco batteries for the old HP laptops I have here at my work, and I just switched out the work laptop I use with an OnCore battery.

I found out about the one year battery warranty on my Dell the hard way, when I had a battery issue. I ended up getting a replacement through the exchange program, so I took care of that issue.

I'd recommend looking at OnCore or Fedco batteries. The OnCore battery I purchased was on Buy.com and included free shipping.

Update on the farting situation:

I am now at home, away from all possible danger. It could have just been a sound, but it sure did sound like a fart.

Perhaps coincidentally, another coworker had questioned hours earlier who was "passing gas."

That looks like Meteos, but you can scroll both horizontally and vertically rather than just vertically, eliminating much of the challenge.

I'd get it for PS2, Lumines that is, because I don't have a PSP, and don't plan on buying one for a while at its current price. Lumines still looks like a blast, though.
