What PS2 games that you own have a noticable improvement when played on a PS3?
For myself:
We Love Katamari - Initial loading of stages is a bit faster, the 'katamari size increase loading screens load in a lot faster
Suikoden V- Random battles load in faster after the sunburst warning

Sonic Heroes- Loading times are way better.
The Mana Knight

Soul Calibur II/III and Tekken 5 both load faster between fights.

I hope that if/when software emulation of PS2 becomes more sophisticated and efficient, we can see games with frustrating framerates like Shadow of the Colossus run smoothly on PS2. Load times should also be reduced to almost nothing.
I think I might buy a PS3 just for that, if it was the case.

That would be nice.
Does anyone know if the North American PS3 w/ the built-in PS2 chip is capable of software emulation as well? Or will "we" (I haven't purchased yet) be stuck with PS2 level performance even if/when software emulation improves PS2 gameplay on the Euro PS3?

I'm pretty sure Sony said that they won't be updating/improving the emulation software too much. Maybe a few updates, but it's not priority.

Wow, where did you get that from?
In the very last firmware update, there was a host of emulation updates for Euros.

Hey do PS1 demos work on PS3?
Ive been wanting to find all my PSone demos I had like a huge stack. And it'd be great fun playing through some of them again.
But is it worth the headache of trying to find them?

Pretty sure they play just like regular games.
Hmm, but now you've made me want to get out my old demos to play them.
I recently found that old demo that had FFVII and a couple other square games (Bushido Blade).
Can't wait to get home, haha!

I thought I was the only one... I have the demo to Toomba... might give that a try out...
Do any of those updates make a difference in how PS2 games play on North American PS3s? I'm just trying to figure out if buying a PS3 now (while they've still got the PS2 chip installed) will lead me to miss out on improved graphics for some games down the line (obviously the number of games that work on PS3s with software emulation will never be as great but I am less concerned about that).

There's been no official word on this afaik, but the general consensus has been that whenever they start making the emulation software-based in the US, there will be some kind of firmware update that will put that in effect for all systems. So everyone would be on equal footing.
That's the impression I've gotten from reading different sites, anyway.

I have to do that almost all the times... answering doors, phones, kitchen chores etc... For some repetitive actions don't require eyeing the TV, it's a great feature.

So do all current backward compatible games play at 480p? How does Okami look on the PS3?
