I finally finished Kingdom Hearts 2 last night. Put 30 hours of game time into it and well over 9 months RL time. (just due to not having time to play it, mostly)
Really didnt enjoy it as much as the first (which I loved). I played ths one on easy and the KH 1 on Hard and found 1 much more challenging, but didnt feel like oging back to re set my difficulty level.
The story here made absolutely NO sense at all. (Nobodies? Sora/Roxas?) The first 5 hours really threw me...
The disney worlds just felt like rehashes of the first game and the new additions didnt do anything for me. (Although I liked the b/w world)
Suffice it to say that the first game enchanted me enough that I completed all of the olympus tournaments and did everything to get the 'secret' ending. In KH 2 I just didnt care and wanted to finish it.

kh 2 sucked. it was a huge step down from kh 1 in terms of level quality and battle challenges. i beat the game on hard and was dissappointed all the way through. its all about reaction commands and magic that really is pretty useless. the first game you really had to think on how to beat some bises and enemies and you had to use magic wisely. especially on the hidden bosses but kh 2 the only real challenging boss was sepiroth.
not to mention the way they hid items in the first one made it more enjoyable to play to try and search for everything in this game they were pretty lazy about hiding things. its the diff between hiding a present under some old clothes in the back of a room in a upstairs attic thats locked or just hiding a present under some clear plastic around the corner.
but props for beating it youd be amzed at how many people out there actually thought the game was hard.

I pretty much agree 100% (although I beat it on hard instead of easy), this was one of the few games I was really looking forward and one of the very very rare games I actually pay full price for on release. It just didn't have that "magic" that the first one had, I too felt that the worlds were complete rehashes and didn't offer anything special that they didn't have in the first game. That being said, I still felt the game was decent and worth playing and I really hope they can make the worlds feel new again in the next one.

I agree with you--I thought the second one was terrible compared to the first. Everything seemed dumbed down and the storyline didn't make much sense.
It was my biggest disappointment game last year.

yeah paying full price and expecting so much is a big reason why i didnt like the game either. id been waiting since i beat the first one to play the second one and then when it finally got here i went out paid my 50 and felt like i got kicked in the nuts. i kept pushing through every board hoping for things to get better and though it had some ok moments everything you thought would be deeper or more fun ( like the tron level) was basic and cheaply done.
whehter they got cocky and figured eh its gonna sell so why put alot of work into it or if what they had originally planned to do woudl take too much time and money and would cause a massive delay for the game i dunno but im still mad at how empty this game feels. at 20 bucks i guess i wouldnt be too mad and if it was the final mix version then eh for 2 games itd be ok but not for what it was. id really like to know what ti was that caused them to chaneg he game so much from what it had been.

I usually hang on to my RPGs, but I traded in KH2 as soon as I finished it. Certainly not a bad game, but the first one is indeed superior in almost every way.
Perhaps it was because the first Kingdom Hearts introduced us to the crazy concept of Square + Disney. The idea was strange and exciting. Once we got used to it, giving us more of the same wasn't going to be enough. The rehashed worlds from the first game were unnecessary. I know they're the most popular movies, Disney, but you have hundreds of good films and characters you could use. Meh.

I just stopped playing the game 12 hours in. I never played the first one, but I really hated KH2. Those games are my pick for 'most overrated, cant understand why anyone likes this' games on the ps2.

I thought this game was great and a big step up from the first game. The camera was fixed, the combat was faster paced, and I had no problem understanding the story, and in fact I really liked the story.
I tried going back and playing the first game after I beat KH2 and I just couldn't do it.

At least they fixed that awful camera.

With KH2, they over complicated things. It actually started in Chains of Memory. Right from the very start when they introduced the Organization XIII characters I knew that the original wouldn't be matched; it had a lot of charm and the simple story (at least up to the very end) felt kind of like a throwback to some 16 bit rpgs. Sora was trying to find his friends, villains kidnapping princesses in order to open Kingdom Hearts to gain some kind of power. It was as simple as that.
I don't know how to describe what was wrong with KH2 but the experience was similar to watching an episode of Dragonball Z.

I agree with most folks here. I bought the game at full price too because I was so desperate to re-create that experience I got from KH 1. This was no where close. The worlds felt like rehashes. I mean what was the point of me 'locking' the worlds in the 1st game if they just get re-threatened in the second?
I didnt like any of the new 'forms'. And the story was just beyond comprehensible. No one can expalin what "Kingdom Hearts" really is, or why the "nobodies" want to capture (rule? destory?) it.

I really liked KH2 more than the 1st one, but I think that had a lot to do with the greatly improved character models. I just enjoy watching it.
The story didn't make a lot of sense as it went along, but hey this is Square we're talking about. Most of their games tend to trail off into existensial nonsense by the end.

oh yeah lets not forget all the times they said sora, donald and goofy. fuckin a by the middle of the game i was ready to just mute the game during the cutscenes it was so damn annoying. i was actually hoping goofy had died so they wouldnt say those 3 names together in a sentence again.
