Lines and Monsters (video interference issues)

When playing my 360, I notice scrolling diagonal lines through the picture (especially prevailent when the image has a lot of blacks). I'm assuming this is some type of interference, and I need to eradicate it. I'm wondering if upgrading from my current standard in-the-box cables to something better (I can get a crazy discount on Monster Cable stuff) would have any effect.

Plus, if anyone out there has the Monster VGA cable, how's the picture? If it's better than the watercolor tones I get with the MS one, I'm in.

If anyone has any opinions, I'd love to hear 'em.

Wow, I thought it was just me. That part of the reason why I was thinking of upgrading to HDMI, I'd figured that the lines would disappear. I even tried exchanging TV's and the line's still there. I only notice when I pause the game though, when im playing, I don't even notice it.

Indeed, It's more obvious when part of the screen is shaded (such as when I'm accessing the profile blade) or when I'm watching a HD-DVD, which is especially irritating.

When I sometimes am playing a game I get a "busy" appearance (for lack of a better term) and color sparkles that seem to possibly indicate a heat issue... turning the unit off and back on again usually stops the jitter. It is irrespective of game type (in the drive or XBLA) and happened to me more frequently when I was using VGA. Back to composite, and I'm not seeing it nearly as much (one time recently, as I recall).

I can't put my finger on it, but it's not my TV... because the PS3/Ps2/GC/PS1 all look solid (as solid as some of them can look in s-video or composite, I mean)...

It'd be interesting to note if there might be some sort of interference in the VGA cable design.... (it happened to me using cheap-o off brand and genuine MS cables for VGA.)

I run the official MS cables (and have since last March) and have had none of these issues. OP, do you have a clean source of power going to your 360?

I ask because in the past I've had instances where I plug a tv into a wall outlet, then have something else plugged into another outlet in the room (say a vacuum) and when you run the vac you get interferance on the tv...

I've seen "hair-dryer" interference before, but this isn't it. Good suggestion about the power source though. I'm going to try bypassing the surge protector I'm using and see if that improves the situation. I also have the power brick about 9 inches directly behind the TV (a 32" Vizio). That doesn't seem to affect any other devices (PS2, DVD) but I'll move it around and hope for the best.

Can you confirm it's not a "tearing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tearing)" issue?
Because I can't seem to totally get rid of that one myself.

If it's visible during black loading screens, I got rid of that by getting a better switchbox and keeping the cables somewhat shielded.

I have darker horizontal black lines slowly running vertically up the screen but mine are on everything and only when my cable box is plugged in. I've tried running a dedicated ground line to the cable box but it didn't help.

I get a lighter gray colours whenever there is a black screen with a light spot inside. It basically makes everything right of the light lighter.

I'm pretty sure it's my TV.

MS CSR has always told me not to have the system plugged into a surge protector.
