(http://www.xbox.com/en-us/games/s/speedball2xboxlivearcade/default.htm) Features

In the year 2326, rival gangs form an ultra-violent streetsports league called Speedball to settle their deadly disputes. Get your steel ball into the opponent's goal. That's it, there are no other rules, and anything goes. The sport becomes quite popular, but it is also extremely dangerous. Ten years later, Speedball becomes the national sport with sponsors, professional teams, and insanely brutal action.
Now, the Bitmap Brothers and Empire Interactive bring you the legendary futuristic sports game Speedball™ 2: Brutal Deluxe completely remastered for Xbox LIVE® Arcade. Play the fast-paced and utterly brutal game with its classic 2-D graphics, or go full on with the new super-enhanced high definition 3-D visuals. Smash your way to the top of the league in the solo game or go head to head locally or on Xbox LIVE. The game features 32 teams, 4 leagues, cup and knockout competitions, team enhancements, management and training options, and Ranked Preset or Ranked Career games.
Updated classic: Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe brings you both the original version with its violently fast action and 2-D graphics, and the exciting new high-def enhanced 3-D graphics for players and arenas.
Multiplayer mode: Win as many professional matches as you can, join the upper leagues, and unlock new content in the online store. Play locally or on Xbox LIVE. Compete head to head in friendly or ranked matches.
Expanded gameplay: The solo game includes 32 teams, league championship, cup and knockout competitions.
Management options: Use your management skills to train your players or buy star players as you mount your challenge for the championship.

UPDATE This is only a port of the Mega Drive version not the 3D remake that is in the works. It also looks like this has been pushed back to August.

Empire Interactive, a wholly owned subsidiary of Silverstar Holdings (NasdaqCM:SSTR - News), today announced that it will bring the furious excitement of the classic Speedball II: Brutal Deluxe to the Xbox 360(tm) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft via Xbox LIVE(r) Arcade. The highly anticipated title was recently voted one of the most wanted games for Xbox LIVE Arcade in an article by the Computer and Video Games website. Its arrival will please both hard-core fans and new generations of gamers who have yet to experience what some believe is the finest combat sports game ever made.

The Bitmap Brothers classic, Speedball, was first released for the Amiga in 1990 and quickly became a huge success. However, it wasn't until the release of its sequel, Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe that the title reached new gaming heights and sold over two million units. It is still considered by many to be one of the best games of all time. The Xbox LIVE Arcade version is a perfect conversion of Speedball II: Brutal Deluxe but with the addition of an all-new High Definition version, more teams and downloadable content.

This new Xbox LIVE Arcade version of Speedball II will enhance this classic game while still retaining all the classic elements that have made it a firm favorite among gamers.

``We are pleased to be bringing this all-time classic to Xbox LIVE Arcade,'' commented Ian Higgins, CEO of Empire Interactive. ``With its brutal and addictive gameplay, and the ability to play multiplayer over Xbox LIVE, we are sure this will be the definitive version of Speedball.''

``This is another example of Empire updating a classic IP and bringing it to a brand new audience. Double Dragon will launch next Wednesday, and will be our first foray onto Xbox LIVE Arcade. Our announcement of Speedball 2 demonstrates our continued intention to bring high quality classic titles to a broader market,'' said Clive Kabatznik, CEO of Silverstar Holdings.

Xbox LIVE Arcade is the central destination for Xbox 360 gamers to find, download, try, and buy smaller games on the Xbox 360 console. Xbox LIVE Arcade offers a large catalog of fun, broad-appeal games that can be downloaded via Xbox LIVE.

I rebought this a few years ago for the Genesis, great game,it's like rugby and dodgeball with power ups and you're able to upgrade your players abilities. Great game and I feel it will hold up better than Double Dragon and TMNT did.

Powerball for the Genesis was a better game. I think it was described as combining football, soccer, rugby and pro wrestling. Awesome multiplayer.

Guys there was a much better game made for the xbox not too long ago and it should have a sequel on the 360. The violent, the crude and awesome DEATHROW. That would be a freaking awesome LIVE title.

Well, it's kinda silly to say that Deathrow is better than Speedball - I would hope so, given how old Speedball is in comparison. And Deathrow was clearly heavily influenced by Speedball. I agree Deathrow is a great game - but odds are pretty good it wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Speedball.

And this may actually get me to buy another Live game - something I haven't done since Castlevania.

I purchased that game off of eBay months ago and haven't even tried it. Heard many great things about it but just haven't gotten around to it.

Apparantly it isn't coming out in July as stated earlier.

Is this the original (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/db/Speedball2_s5.png), or the remake (http://www.frogster-interactive.de/upload/!screenshots/276/Speedball2_In-Game_11.jpg)?

Maybe both. I don't know much about the game, but some past xbla games have updated graphics along with the classic ones.

If they are releasing that updated one as a PC game then I doubt we'd see that.

It's only the original. The remake is a totally different thing by a different company.

They are talking about an import to XBLA of the old Mega Drive version, nothing to do with our development. Empire is just trying to ride on our wave. That is the reason why we are searching for a subtitle to Speedball2 to make the difference

Isn't that the MS and XBLA Policy "about 400 too much"
I have just a hand full of XBLA based solely on the fact I think the games cost too much. I dont know who sets the price, but if a lot of games were just a tad lower in price I would own about 3 times as many. So are these higher prices Helping or hurting profits?

No, usually it's ports 400 (which this is), new/updated games 800, titles that could pass as standalone products 1200.

That said, it's up to the company to pick the price not MS. Jeff Minter decided to price Space Giraffe at 400 so it would be more tempting just to buy for the hell of it.

Meh, 800 is too much, I liked Speedball 2 but I don't feel the need to spend $10 on another version.
