It's been nice getting 2 games per week on XBLA. Some cool, some pretty meh. But then there's games on the XBLA such as Feeding Frenzy, AstroPop, Zuma, Luxor 2, and Bejeweled 2.
I don't know why, but it seems like no one cares for these types of games. (In general). No one really gave a rats ass when Luxor 2 was released I think about a month ago, and that's why I started this thread, to find out why the people who dislike some of these web games and don't like seeing them on the Arcade.
I'm a really big fan of these types of games and I welcome them all very much. I really do hope we see Feeding Frenzy 2, and SOME form of Slingo (although I found Slingo Quest to be EXTREMELY addicting). I know that none of these are good for multiplayer online, but IMO they are great time killers when there's nothing else to do.
So what do you think?
If you dislike these games, why?
If you are a fan of these kind of games, what do you want to see show up on the Arcade eventually?
I love Astropop and Heavy Weapon.

its not that the games themselves suck but that they are poor value and under-developed.

They appeal to casual gamers, one of the core markets the arcade wants to attract. My wife loves the puzzle games. Its better for her to be hunched over on the couch than hunched over the computer screen.
Diner Dash was rumored a while ago, my wife would like to see that.

Diner Dash is pretty cool! I dunno how it would feel with a controller...it's coming out for the DS/PSP this month though.

What ya mean?
I know there some big fans of some of the games, but just going by the reaction to Luxor 2..I remember reading people's comments about another web game, blah blah blah.
And when I say alot of people, I'm more referring to the hardcore 360 users, not so much the casual users--since the web games ARE directed towards them.

When you said "it seems like no one cares for these types of games," that sounded like you have a major misconception about how ridiculously popular these games are, in the casual market.

Those games are aimed at a different kind of person than most CAGs. Using us as any kind of sample of the gaming public is probably not a good idea. I think the reason you do hear people complain about them is because although we can see why Microsoft would want to attract a wider group of gamers, the 360 generally attracts the more 'hardcore' of gamers. We generally prefer games with more depth and that push some kind of 'next-gen' envelope.
Thats my opinion on the subject anyway.

Nah I def. meant around here.

That's true. Though I was really only talking about the people here by saying "no one really seems to care", and not using CAG as a general idea of the gaming population.
And I agree, I can completely understand the concept of wanting games (arcade) that are pushing that next-gen feel. IMO, I think the remakes of classics do a decent job of it. JetPac and Centipede & Millipede are my 2 fav Arcade games that have an awesome remake to them. Very nice :applause:
Though, I think it's just a good idea to have more types of arcade games in general. More web games and we DEF need more board games! And not to sound like a 76 year old lady, but I think a live version of Bingo would be great fun!
But I'm really just wanting Slingo Quest to be honest. I saw the back of the box and its from Mumbo Jumbo games, and they have Luxor 2 (i think Zuma too..) and they are both on XBLA..so, I'm hoping it's at least a possibility :D

I was really happy to hear that Puzzle Quest is coming for XBLA.
The problem with the majority of these web games is that - as someone else said already I believe - they are poorly developed with not alot of depth or even animation. They don't have the pizazz of something like Geometry Wars Evolved or the depth and exploration of Castlevania: SOTN which was recently released.
It IS odd that games like Luxor 2 and such would get the XBLA treatment but classics such as Chess etc are left out of the game.
MY wants for XBLA? How about ARCHON done up in pretty 3d and next gen graphically presentation. I would like to see more arcade games like the shooter DEMIHOO or any of the MAGICAL DROP puzzle games. That would be a blast! There are alot of great arcade games that made it to the US (or didn't) that would be alot of fun for XBLA. Not to mention board game conversions or something like WHEEL OF FORTUNE that everyone could play and is a familiar and fun IP. Id also like to see a simple but addictive fishing game like BLACK BASS (NES but with better graphics obviously) where they could hold tournaments over XBLA, etc. A kick arse dungeon crawler like DIABLO (or 2) where a batch of friends could get together and kill things and customize their characters would be a blast as well. Bonus points for them if they include an option to have random parties put together for those that connect online for those of us who are friendless but still want to hack n slash with the rest of em. :D

I don't think puzzle games like Bejeweled or Luxor are meant to have much depth except for clearing stages. If you look at some of these games Achievements wise, then it's insane. Luxor 2 & Bejeweled 2's achievements would take SUCH a long time to get! I play Bejeweled every so often and I don't even have 1 achievement LOL

Well I'm just sick of/dislike any boring block games lately...but Feeding Frenzy I do like. For me, arcade games have to be more actiony/puzzly, like eets, to get a buy. I can't stand buying ANY old arcade game where nothing was done with the graphics and it's simply ported over.

I like some of the web games just depends which ones. A nice battleship game would be cool
