Anyone (East X??) have detailed info on the powerups in this game? There's a few that I'm not familiar with.

Also, what kind of poison system does this version use? Do the effects remain until you grab another powerup, or are they timed? Can you "infect" other players by touching them (I believe this was present in Atomic Bomberman for PC)?

It amazes me how many people never think to look in the Help menu.

It's an XBLA requirement to put everything you need to know to play the game in the help section of the game.

I've been so close to getting the Joy of painting but always die within a couple seconds...Best way to do it is get the remote bomb, grab as many bombs and fire as possible, place the bombs so that you paint in 4 directions, make sure you get corners as well, get out of the way when you run out of bombs and blow those suckers up.

The other way, which may be easier is to get the "Dangerous Bomb", grab as many 'Flame Up' power ups as you can and stick to bombing near the corners and get the fuck outta the way....

Both methods are also easy methods for getting the Triple Kill achievement.

You really just need Full Fire and Line Bombs. Definitely Line Bombs. Set the time limit to 2 minutes so you don't have to stay alive for too terribly long, as well.

Yup, after you select "Player Match" you'll be prompted to have any additional local players join in. Just make sure you have extra profiles ready for the additional players (you can just set up dummy profiles with no Live accounts).

It's an awesome game. It still has multiplayer flaws (you can't change the settings in a room without kicking everyone), but it's still a blast. I'm not good at it either, but it's still fun on Live.

This could be the game that makes me get Gold, and I'm not just saying that. It's a really fun game.

Mode: Zombie
Arena: Any
Items: Flame up, Full Fire, Bomb up, Dangerous Bomb.
Fireproof Items
Scavenger On

If you're playing for fun, set the timer to 1:00. If you want costumes, set it to 2:00. You'll get a costume every match around the 1:00 mark. Even though you're invincible, kills still count as kills, so this is a very easy way to get the Dangerous Bomb achievement.

I spent 20 minutes looking around for it and i can't figure it out either. I'm able to save, but not load.

Found it, it's on the Arena Select screen, instead of picking the stage you play on, you can choose Custom Arena 1-3 and it loads all the settings for you. Can still fine tune Time Limit, # of Wins, Positions and power-up settings after that too.

I've always got my Live voice output set to "Play Through Headset." But when I play Bomberman online with guests, all the voices come blaring through the speakers! I plugged a headset into the main controller to stop the voices, but they still play through the speaker. How can I shut the voices off, this is driving me nuts! I even tried turning down the voice volume in my Personal settings and nothing changed!

EDIT: if I take TWO headsets and plug them into the extra controllers, it switches them to headset chat. But that's ridiculous if I have to hook up three headsets juts to shut the fucking voices off during a Live game. Either I'm missing something or they better PATCH that shit pronto. It wasn't like this when you had guests in Halo 2.

Let me start by saying that I absolutely love this game. I'm so happy that we finally have an affordable, fun online Bomberman game for the Xbox 360. I love the 8-player support, the Vision camera implementation, and Ping displays in the lobby. With all that said, I have several suggestions that would make the game even more fun and polished.

Interface issues in need of fixing:

The Lobby:
It is frustrating that options cannot be changed from the lobby after a match ends. If players would like to tweak options or change the stage, everyone has to leave and a new game must be created. It would be far better to allow rule and stage changes from the lobby.

Pressing A between rounds:
After each round of a game, Bomberman Live requires every single player to press A before the next match begins. This is bad because often a player will not press A, preventing the other players from being able to play the next round. There is no on-screen description of who has and has not pressed A, either. It would be far better to only require the host to press A between rounds.

Voice chat descriptors:
Bomberman Live does not indicate who is talking during matches. This can be a problem when a player decides to use excessive profanity. It is difficult or impossible to tell who is talking, which means it's difficult or impossible to report people who are being rude and disruptive.

Odd design choices for Bomberman Live:

Starting blast radius:
The players' blast radius starts out only one space big rather than two. I know one-space explosions have been done in a few other Bomberman games, but it was bad then and it's bad now. Without explosions that are at least two spaces large, it is very difficult to chain multiple bombs together. This makes it hard for players to destroy soft blocks at the start of the stage, slowing gameplay down.

Holding the bomb button:
In many Bomberman games, if a player has laid all of his bombs down and he holds the bomb button, once his bombs have exploded, he will automatically lay a bomb. This is convenient. Unfortunately in Bomberman Live holding the bomb button will not lay a bomb after the player's other bombs have exploded.

Kicking bombs:
I can't think of any other Bomberman game in which kicking a bomb into a player will dizzy that player. Bomberman Live's change to Bomb Kick can confuse long-time players.

Ranked match items:
The items in ranked matches are pretty much the game's default items, right? Why are overpowered and non-traditional items like Remote Control Bombs and Dangerous Bombs included by default? These items make it easy for a skilled player to dominate the game and increase the challenge for beginners to an unfair degree. Few if any other Bomberman games have Remote Control and Dangerous Bombs on by default; please consider removing them from Ranked matches.

Achievement Critique:

EXTREME MAKEOVER!
This Achievement is annoying because costume balls do not appear in Xbox Live multiplayer games (that I know of). Since Bomberman Live does not have a real single-player component, it is not very nice to require players to play at least 60 games (but realistically more than that) offline to get the Achievement. Please enable Costume Balls during online play.

Did I just win... AGAIN?!
Multiplayer Achievements like this always lead to boosting. That is when players realize they will not be able to legitimately earn an Achievement, so they arrange to play with someone else who will throw matches and help them get the Achievement. A quick check of the achieve360points.com Bomberman Live forum shows that many people are already boosting to get this Achievement. Boosting harms the entire Bomberman live community because it compromises the integrity of the Leaderboards. How would I suggest this be fixed? The Achievement would be less aggravatingly difficult to get through legitimate means if Draws and Ties did not count against the 10 consecutive wins that it requires. Did I mention I'm a really good player and it took me several hours of trying to get this one? Like I said, other people won't go through that effort. They'll just cheat.

Level Critique

The non-classic levels in this game are mostly pretty bad. The traps in Ghost House are just plain annoying, especially since players reappear in a random spot after falling into them. Thin Ice is probably the least fun ice multiplayer level in Bomberman history. Lost World, being almost exactly the same stage, is also quite unfun. I know the downloadable stages are already planned out, but it would be great if you added some traditional Bomberman stages designs like conveyor belts, trampolines, overhead objects that limit visibility, hi-speed stage, or full powerup stage.

Custom Characters

I think it would be great if you added an orange martial arts outfit (like Bomberman wears in Saturn Bomberman and Bomberman Online for Dreamcast), Bomberman Max, and a Hige Hige Bandit. Since Dr. Ein has been turned from a human into a Bomberman in this version, you might as well do the same with Mujoe as well. Other classic Hudson characters (like Saturn Bomberman featured) would surely be popular too.

I noticed a few glitches last night. A couple big ones. One was Match scores. I was only playing with 2 other people and the after match round up looked like this:

Two of us had these stats on screen:
Player 1: 3 wins
Player 2: 2 wins
Player 3: 1 win

Now the game was set to 3 wins and it should have been over, except our third player saw these stats on his screen:

Player 1: 2 wins
Player 2: 2 wins
Player 3: 1 win

The game continued on even though it should have been over. Very odd. There was also camera problems where one of us couldn't see the others after some matches(saw the default Bomberman avatar) and other matches it worked. It's definitely fun and probably the definitive Bomberman to date, but looks like it could have used a bit more testing.

What I do is look ahead to see if theres anything anyone could start playing online ahead of this time.


I haven't really looked up arcade games, I know Speedball and Sensible Soccer are coming out in August so they could take away Bomberman online players. Same with Madden.

Finally got the "Joy of Painting" achievement. Found out that its really easy to get on the level called "Blast", basically there's no where to take cover from the flames there's holes everywhere, using the "dangerous bomb" I got 156 colored titles, the closest I got before on the default level was 127.

Hmmm... I'm not sure what level I did this on, but the way I got it was to turn on only the dangerous bomb, speed boosts, full fire powerup, and I think, power bombs just to be safe. You really need to get a fully powered-up dangerous bomb near the end of the time and then just run from side-to-side dropping them. You keep killing the other guys and this keeps them from having any power-ups to nail you with.

There's not a lot of taunting in this game, at least in the games I've played. Playing with Super Revenge is especially sweet -- anyone's got a fighting chance then.

Except for the 30-seconds or so of vision cam gloating when you win... :) Or the potential for smack-talking throughout the whole match.

Bomberman has the potential to be one of the ugliest experiences on XBLA. So far I've kept it pretty much entirely with CAGs and have had good times. (The smack-talking and vision cam gloating is more tolerable when it's one of you guys!) :D

2 minute rounds, Plunder Isle (or whatever the hell it's called). Start outside the treasure chests, against one easy opponent. Wait a minute, get the costume, kill the guy. Repeat.

I tried playing zombie mode with 7 other CPU players with those settings and it wasn't happening. There were only like 2 dangerous bomb powerups in the whole game, and with all the chaos, you only hold onto it for like 10 seconds.

I did this on the Plunder Island (the pirate island level) with 7 CPU players, start on the outside (so all the power ups are inside) and make sure you get to the power-ups first, if you get the majority you should be fast with fairly powerful bombs and all the CPU players will have no power-ups, killing 3 at once is fairly easy from this point, just drop clusters of bombs where you see a group of bombermen.

I'll try that again because that's another setting I tried. I played 3 games, and literally, by the time I even got to the powerups, at least 3 or 4 killed themselves every time. Really annoying.

This one was cake.

- Zombie match
- classic Bomberman board
- 3 CPU opponents
- Items: turn on everything EXCEPT the power downs and skulls
- turn off destructible items so you can't accidentally blow up the good shit
- Grab the grid(4x4 explosion) bomb and the full fire(gold flame) and it lights up over half of the board. The 130 square one was cake with this as well.

Yes. They are all named after a specific theme and they have a little icon on the bottom right corner indicating wether its male or female outfit.

I tried playing zombie mode with 7 other CPU players with those settings and it wasn't happening. There were only like 2 dangerous bomb powerups in the whole game, and with all the chaos, you only hold onto it for like 10 seconds.


You don't need to use zombie mode just turn off all powerups except dangerous bombs and full fire and it's easy.
4 CPU players is enough though.

OK, I tried to do this and it seems I can get my youngest son on there because he doesn't have an Xbox Live account. My older son cannot join as a guest because, I think, he has a Silver account. It is either that or the child account that is blocking me. It just gives an error when I try to make a private match (or a regular one). When I just do the one without an account it works. Sure, my older son could sign on as a guest, but the point would be both of them want the achievements - they don't want to help ME get them ;). So it looks like I'd have to burn 48-hour codes for them to play. My youngest (4 1/2 years old) hasn't signed up yet, so he'd get the 1 month trial, actually. Maybe I'll do that just for this game since he did tell me he really likes it (his exact words were "I really like Bomberman so it is a good thing you bought it" :rofl:).

This is how I got my achievement earlier. There were only three of us (random people) and I ended with 27 or so kills.

what i did to get a few of the online achievements was i just played a player match with a guest then did whatever i had to do to the guest and let the other people duke it out. In my experience they leave you alone and just go after each other. I just made a custom match then limited it to 4 players and got the cowboy and the 25 zombie kill achievement that way

ok so... I just bought this game cause I finally got my CC b1g1 points. Anyways I go and play single player and what new, I win 1 in every 10 games and I hate playing the computers cause they always know where to go. No human error, it drives me nuts. But I bought the game for online play. I go into the ranked lobbies and nobody is there, so I go to the player matches. There are tons of games! The problem is that everytime I went into a game one of 3 things would happen: a message came up and said connection time has ended, a message saying game has been started, or I would get into the lobby and every single time the game would kick me to the main menu and say the host has left. Now i did this for a solid half hour and I doubt that the 15 hosts from the lobbies I got into ALL left. I didn't get into a single game :cry:

So theres my rant, any advice is appreciated.

Also if I get it working I would love to play with some of you and maybe go for the achievements too!

Alright, who are these geniuses that voted for 400 and 500 points? They have more votes than 300 (though not as many as 100-200). When I voted (for 100 of course) the breakdown was as follows:

I'm not so sure I'm biting. I don't know, 800 points, and the game really seemed pretty bare bones to me. It really seems like the DLC would make it a more complete game, but for another 350. At the end of the day, it looks like it'll be a nice bomberman game, but it's going to cost $25-$30 to get it.

Just got it for the boys. The costumes are available immediately. The cyclone gimmick is moderately interesting. The Vegas field is OK, but is really nothing different (you can put the things like quicksand, trap doors, cyclones, etc) from the other boards onto it. We didn't try frag mode but that at least changes up the gameplay a bit I would imagine. Condering half-price CC points, it was a decent purchase.

That's not a good way to think. If the game did not come with enough characters or stages, you might have a point. You could buy the game only for $10 and never need more stuff. If you find yourself wanting more, you have the choice.

How do I use the costumes? When I save my changes everything looks fine until I try to exit. Then I'm told that I didn't save my character and all changes will be lost. Save again... exit... asks me again... save... exit... and so on. No matter how many times, I still get booted back to the standard bomber.

Nevermind... I had a hunch it had something to do with the fact that I only bought the second pack. I was planning on purchasing the first pack anyway so I did and - when I did - everything functioned fine.

That depends. You should get them if you want more characters or levels. The new levels are cool looking, though of course they're kinda badly designed like the old levels. The new game types are good though. And who doesn't like more characters?

Yeah, I just saw that. I find it funny since the Resistance tourney I was in, the grand prize was like $4000 in electronics. Oh well. Good luck!

Well, I made it to the second round of the tournament. There will be one round a day through Friday, when the finals take place. The top 3 players per game move on to the next round, then the finals have a single winner and five runners-up.

I thought I was a shoe-in to be the in the top 3 overall players, but I've encountered a problem... Cheating of a sort. In today's match, there was a player short-fusing bombs. Short-fusing is a "strategy" unique to Bomberman Live in which a player lays a bomb, stands on it for two seconds, and then uses the Power Glove to pick it up. When he throws the bomb, it will explode instantly upon landing. So if he throws the bomb on you, or anywhere near you, then you will die. Instantly. That makes Power Glove the single most overpowered item in the game. This evil strategy cannot be done in any other Bomberman game, ever.

"So what? You can short fuse too," you may be thinking. Well, that's like saying it doesn't matter if I use standby in Halo 2 because other people can do it as well. Cheating is cheating. Bomberman is meant to be a strategic multiplayer game, not a race to one particular item and then instant victory.

I've been practicing all week, hardcore, and do you think I got to use any of my strategies in the match? No way. The short fuser, LeapFrog, simply got the Power Glove and killed every player off very soon after the start of each round.
The end results were Leapfrog - 3 wins, me - 1 win (the one time he was unable to get a Power Glove), and everyone else - 0 wins. Is Leapfrog a good player? No way, without the Power Glove he had absolutely no strategy. He simply learned an exploit and never bothered to develop real Bomberman skills.

Now, my question is: does anyone have advice for battling against a short-fuser? Some say you should stay close to him (which seems to expose you to the chance of his bombs landing on you), while others say to stay far away (which prevents you from attacking him, and introduces the chance of him attacking by throwing the bomb off-screen). Yes, I realize I may have to do some short fusing myself if I want to stay competitive. Ugh. But what if I can't get a Power Glove before this guy? I've got to have a strategy worked out. I play against him again Tuesday; hopefully I'll be able to stay in the top 3 and move on. Any advice is appreciated!

Oh, and Dufus is right. The solution to keeping the match entertaining is just to stay alive. No way, without the Power Glove he had absolutely no strategy. He simply learned an exploit and never bothered to develop real Bomberman skills.

Now, my question is: does anyone have advice for battling against a short-fuser? Some say you should stay close to him (which seems to expose you to the chance of his bombs landing on you), while others say to stay far away (which prevents you from attacking him, and introduces the chance of him attacking by throwing the bomb off-screen). Yes, I realize I may have to do some short fusing myself if I want to stay competitive. Ugh. But what if I can't get a Power Glove before this guy? I've got to have a strategy worked out. I play against him again Tuesday; hopefully I'll be able to stay in the top 3 and move on. Any advice is appreciated!

Oh, and Dufus is right. The solution to keeping the match entertaining is just to stay alive. With Revenge turned on, the player has to worry about the players outside the ring when he should be focused on the players inside the ring. You can hardly attack the other living players because you have to dodge a ton of shots from the dead players. It is very annoying.

I may not be able to help, but wanted to say thanks for explaining that exploit to me. I've been killed in that manner and always wondered why the bomb exploded so soon. Also, I think I've played that Leapfrog guy before...
