My Starcraft CDs finally gave out after nine years, so I'm looking for a new Battle Chest to pick up. Any deals on these?

Where have you been. CD's, just like VHS, will eventually deteriorate/loose info on the disc.

check Target. I heard someone said it was on clearance for $7.48
same thing happened to my SC cd's, I was wondering what was wrong with them. i picked up the battlechest again at circuit city's $7.99 deal that has ended, but i think GS/EB might be putting them on sale during the 5/27 sale. check that topic to see.

that Gamestop/EB sale mentioned Starcraft.
People play Starcraft ALOT. I've heard of this happening often where their disc just wears out. I recently purchased Starcraft Battlechest last week at CC for a mere $8, and it's also only $13.88 at Target on clearance.

Where have you been. CD's, just like VHS, will eventually deteriorate/loose info on the disc. CD's are much different then VHS. VHS is analog and deteriorate after each time you play the tape. CD's are digital and do not deteriorate each time you play it. The dye for burned cd's may deteriorate. If you have a legit copy of Starcraft those cd's are stamped and not burned though. As far as my knowledge goes, I do not think stamped CD's deteriorate. The cd may not work anymore because it has been scratched up too much.
I picked up a copy of the Starcraft Battle Chest at Circuit City a couple weeks ago. That deal is over though.

mkg is right, CDs are completely different from vhs. My guess is that after 9 years of substantial use and the laser can eventually damage part of the disc, but more likely it's probably a collection of small scratches from 9 years of use.
Because the CD is digital, it will never lose quality (like a vhs or LP), it will only reach a day when it's beaten beyond the point of working at all (skips are when only one section is beaten up to that point obviously)

This was a few years back, they were comparing CDs to tapes and seeing if they also wore out and deteriorate, and they do. It isn't as obvious as on tapes or vhs, but over a long period of time it very slowly but surely does become useless.

Thanks, guys!
As far as I can tell, the discs are just too worn (scratched, fingerprint oils, etc.) to go anymore. I can get Brood Wars to start up, but it freezes after you try to launch something, and the original disc barely even registers, let alone starts.
I'll check out EB/GS next week - I've got $15 worth of credit left over.

Since you already own a legal copy of the game why not just borrow a friends CD and and copy it for a legal backup?
