I'm looking into expanding my HDD space on the PS3 (I have the 20gb version), but notebook hard drives are still pretty expensive. I'm requesting any current deals on notebook hard drives, or any information on an even cheaper option; I've heard of external adaptors that allow you to connect a SATA hard drive to the system. Thanks.

you need a sata 1 - 2.5 inch hard drive. It's been recommended you stick with a 5400 rpm hard drive(what is in their currently). As there is talk a 7200rpm drive could overheat the ps3.

I just got a 500GB external HD for mine for about $130. Just had to convert it to the right file system type and then I can just plut it into the USB port on the PS3 and it reads everything fine.
I got it because I think their might be a limit on the size of the HD now, can't remember how big it is. And it is possible Sony adds another one with an update in the future.

Check pricewatch.com, you're likely to find some deals on there. I'd recommend a Seagate drive, as they tend to be pretty fast, as well as having a 5-year warranty on them. Momentus series is the notebook 2.5" drives Seagate sells.
If there's a 5400RPM drive in there now, I'd be careful about a 7200RPM drive, if there is a possibilty of overheating with the faster drive in there. Though, most hard drive vendors are minimizing heat dissipation whenever possible with a 7200RPM drive.

Which adaptor are you using to attach the HD to the PS3?

Yes, I would like to know. Does it store GameSaves and downloads or just music and stuff like that?

This is the cheapest notebook hard drive I've been able to find.

I'm nearly ready to purchase it, since I'm tired of clearing out space on my 20gb HDD, but might there still be a couple of cheaper alternatives I wasn't aware of?

Need a quick answer since I plan to leave within the hour. Will this work?

Seems to be what I need for the PS3, and the price is as good as I've seen.
