I went to pick up the Sunday paper and some donuts from Krispy Kreme this morning. I went through the drive thru and ordered a dozen donuts...pulled aroound and handed em my debit card (i dont carry cash...burns a whole in my pocket)...about a minute goes by and the guy opens the window and says the credit card machine just went down and if i had any cash....i said i didnt have any and he said we would just have to wait for the machine to reboot...i was fine with that and waited for another 30 seconds and then the guy hands me the box with the card on top and winks and says "We'll see ya next time."
Can't beat free Krispy Kremes!!!!

I wish the ones here were still open. It was by the movie theater and gave out free doughnuts after 9.
It's nice how they screwed over their employees though. They gave them their paychecks the day after they declared bankruptcy. My friend didn't cash his paycheck from before so he has over 600 dollars which he can't cash

I wish there was still a KK near me, but alas, I can only find them in certain gas stations now. Best donuts ever created.

Did he try to cash them or is he just assuming there is no money? A bankruptcy does not automatically mean they do not have money in their account.

KK went bankrupt? damn! They had decent donuts :(
I always thought they were doing well since they branched out to the west coast and had stores all over town.

I went to Krispy Kreme at around 1:30 AM last night, and ordered a single glazed for myself (post-midnight snack), and paid with change. Guy hands me the bag and tells me that he gave me two, "because eating only one just makes ya mad." So, yeah, free donuts are awesome. :D

KK are seem to be getting no business in my area.

I used to have one nearby for undergrad, nothing like when you walk in and before you even buy something they take one hot off the belt and hand it to you for free.
And they should still be able to cash paychecks after bankruptcy.

Krispy Kreme went under around here last year, they were good, but gave you diabetes on impact. 7-11 sells the same tasting donuts now, but I prefer Dunkin' Donuts.

They went under here too. I liked their donuts. They were melt in your mouth little carb puffs. So awesome hot too. I remember when they opened the first store around here, there were lines backed up down the freakin highway. A year later it was a ghost town. Weird how crazes die out like that, their donuts never faltered in quality.

The company has been struggling and the Canadian part filed for bunkruptcy as did several US franchisees, but the company is still going.

I am amazed, but like most things it was a craze (although Ive always lived near one in both towns Ive lived in).. I backed off severely from them though, not that they arent tasty because hot doughnuts are sooo good, but Im trying to get rid of a tiny bit of fat... Ive got a free coupon for a doz glazed that Ive sat on for 6 months...
... that said their chocolate iced glazed doughnuts are heavenly also

Yeah, we had one open here for a bit and it was closed. Luckily, Road Ranger gas stations still carry it but the closest one is like 15 minutes away.

How is that screwing over their employees? It's not their fault your friend didn't cash his paycheck right away. At least they handed out paychecks after declaring bankrupty.

Fixed for you. Seriously the guy has a dildo up his ass so he's bitter in every thread.
Krispy Kreme is ok but I prefer the local donut shops since they have more flavors.

Same. We had a KK in my town, the first year it was booming, than after that it just closed down. Their doughnuts are okay, I do perfer a local shop over them. The Save Marts around here still carry KK doughnuts, but it isn't the same if it isn't fresh and hot.

I clicked on this thread, thinking that Krispy Kreme had started giving away copies of Cooking Mama or an old video game system for the writer of OP. Instead, he got...free donuts?

There used to be this local donut place down the street that had GREAT donuts. They closed down and were replaced by Dunkin Donuts a week later.
Fuck you Dunkin Donuts. :<

They went out of business in my area. It was a ripoff, $0.75 for a plain glazed one and $0.85 for anything else and they were small. The local market has donuts much bigger for $0.45 ($0.30 at night) and they are better.

This thread has the possibility of becoming one of the greatest non-deal threads this year.
I can't wait to see the weekday crowd of comedians coming out to hit this thread.

You should of re-entered the drive-thru or go inside the place to get another free box....trying to pay via debit/credit card of course.

I always thought they were doing well since they branched out to the west coast and had stores all over town.
Not only expanded in the west but became Starbucks-like, I remember we had so many KKs everywhere and you couldn't take a step without running into a store that offered them. Probably their downfall, good donuts however, though I prefer Dunkin'.

There are two KK's right across the street from each other where I live...it's kind of funny.
My sister was taking a bus to Ohio and had to come through town (she dosent live in the same town as I do) and while on the phone she was like, "Oh! Krispie Kreme....and...wha..? ano..ther..Krispie..Kreme...o..k.."

there used to be one over by blockbuster here but they moved it to appleglen. good dounuts but prices were way too high (think 80 cents each)
your lucky you got them free. Last time something like this happened they said
Either allow us to write down your number so we could enter it when our systems when back up or you couldnt have them
There was no way in hell i was going to print out my number so i left them....

Niiiiice. I remember I went to a Jack in the Box one time but I got a chicken sandwich instead of a Sourdough Jack and a Strawberry Shake instead of a Chocolate one. I let the worker know and I got to keep the extra stuff. Free food FTW!
Krispy Kreme kicks ass

Krispy Kreme's are great. My wife loves em. I can only eat one or two until I have major stomach pain. Feels like there's a massive lead weight in my stomach.
Can't wait until we move to vancouver/portland to get them at least once a week.

Damn it, its one of those threads that cause cravings. I remember such past threads about Carne Asada Fries, Taco Bell, Beverages, and more recently Pretzels.
I wonder if they're still open 24 hours around here... though a day of BBQed meats tell me to just go to sleep and hit the gym hard tomorrow.

Did he try to cash them or is he just assuming there is no money? A bankruptcy does not automatically mean they do not have money in their account.
Besides that, the company is still around, even if the store is gone. It's likely the checks are drawn from a corporate account.
He should totally try to cash them (assuming they aren't expired, most paychecks can't be cashed after 90 days). Even if they can't do it, he could get in touch with the main company to get new cashable checks issued.
I think the Krispy Kreme they opened up here is still around... but it's 30-45 minutes away (depending on traffic), and I never go in that direction anyway, so I really have no clue.
I do know the people along the road going to work re-selling boxes of Krispy Kreme are long since gone.;)

Hmm, 12 free Krispy Kreme doughnuts huh?
That equals:
2,400 Calories
144 Grams of fat
264 Grams of carbs
Needless to say since San Antonio is the fattest city in America, our Krispy Kreme's are thriving.
