View Full Version : Do I have the right to be this pissed off?

It all involves Circuit City. For the past three years or so, I've been telling my family to shop there instead of Worst Buy. I'm the official tech/computer person to nearly the entire family, I tend to setup networks and help them with their computer issues.
So on the 17th, as I'm sure most people know, CC had the 'free' games for sale. Ordered a handful, and waited for either the cancellation or the games. Cancellation came, but they said I would get a coupon. Two weeks later (nearly) and no coupon. I don't mind not getting something for nothing, but when you tell me to expect so and so, I should be getting it.
Anyways, I go in there today to price-match Monty Python/Holy Grail Extraordinarily Deluxe Edition for $10 from Target. I've been to two Targets, and both only have the Special Edition in-store. I hunt down a copy, and bring it to the front. I tell the guy my intentions, and he sits there for about five minutes at the CS register looking at the ad and playing with his terminal. I can only assume he's checking out the online ad. I may be wrong, but that was a clear assumption. Again, this took about five minutes. He finally declares that the version they have advertised is the Special Edition. Well, that certainly contradicts the ad I have and what I saw online last night. I point this out, and ANOTHER five minutes pass before he (apparently) calls Target. He gets whatever electronics person to tell him that the SE version is what is on sale.
Now, I understand ad mistakes happen. I also understand CC can refuse to PM something. However, I was lied to. Maybe he wasn't looking at the ad, but from where I was standing for ten minutes, perception = reality. If he would have said the price difference was too much to match, I would have said thanks and been on my way. I also thought that Target had gone and fixed their mistake, but I clearly see in their online ad the same picture and description I see in print.
Summary for lazies- CC never sent a coupon I was promised two weeks ago. Dude at CS counter lied, or I got the impression he lied to me. Two instances of bad CS, plus no Good Will Hunting last week = pissed the fuck off.

Why don't you just buy the DVD at Target?

Probably wants the extra 10% off.
I have had similar pricematching problems at circuit city, I will never pricematch anything there again, not worth the headache

I remember trying to pricematch at circuit city so they called Best Buy to make sure it was in stock...ok, thats what they are supposed to do so I'm fine with it.
5mins later no one picks up at Best Buy so the CC employee gets the bright idea that maybe she should try again. 10mins later someone picks up and never comes back to say if it is in stock or not.
So she calls AGAIN. All in all it took about half an hour before I just left.
The no coupon thing is a pain, but I'd count that as an annoyance. Contact them again about it and see if that gets you a coupon.
PMing a price mistake (I'm assuming this was a price mistake and the SE is what was supposed to be advertised?) is always hit or miss and you have to go in thinking you might have to try it at more than one place or at a different time if you are shot down the first time or two. If the CC guy called a Target and they told him the ad is wrong and/or they are out of stock the PM is going to be denied.
What's funny is that personally I'd be pretty POed if they actually came out and told me 'Sorry this price difference is too great for us to match.' The whole point of a price match "We guarantee the lowest prices!" policy is that you match anything no matter how low the other guy goes. Cherry picking what to match and what not to match makes the entire policy a load of shit.

I remember two Black Friday's ago when Star Wars Battlefront 2 was a mistake in the ad for $15 I think?
Anyways, I go to BB to pricematch and they won't do it because it's too big of a difference. They start trying to make me buy it at $30 because they say that's the lowest they'll go.
Yeah...

It probably was a mistake, but there is no correction notices at any Target. I honestly don't think they carry the EDE. It's just a combination of the two things, plus really crappy service at that location. And, not responding to the email I sent last week. Just all adds up. The dickheads they are at this location, I'm sure they'll post a notice so no one else can PM it.

Well sure - you have every right to be pissed off, no matter how unfounded it may be. You tried to get over on a mistake, and it didn't pan out for you this time. Maybe next.

I'm upset I got lied to. It has nothing to do with the fact I didn't get the movie at that price.

Where were you lied to? He called the Target, they said it was the special edition, and you said you been there and they didn't have the deluxe edition in stock. Usually if a store doesn't have it in stock they won't PM, so I don't see where you were lied to at.

It seems fine to me since he called the Target and was told that they aren't selling that edition for that price. All stores have a policy that the item must be available from the store they're matching, so what he did, while it may have been rather slow (although time always seems to move slower for someone in your shoes) was fine. Your probably best off trying to PM when they're busy and on a weekend so it's all high school kids who don't care.

You missed the five minutes where he stared at the computer, told me they advertised the wrong thing, then took another five minutes on the computer before he called. I can't imagine he was doing anything other than looking at the online ad.

That was a legendary deal. My friend had bought the Xbox version for 50 bucks a couple days earlier, I got Wal-Mart to PM the PS2 version. He was miffed.

I totally sympathize with you. I’m starting to think Best Buy is the lesser of two evils. I’ve had two bad experiences in the past couple of days, and a few in the past as well. Circuit City tends to have better prices than Best Buy, but seriously, the employees are shit. At least the ones I’ve dealt with. Oh, and lets not forget the whole "there’s 30+ people working in the store, and not even a damn person asks if I need help”. Whenever I need help, it seems like they’re always busy doing something else. CC should really hire some more people, or do SOMETHING to prevent this from happening.

Cochese, I hate that Circuit City you dealt with. They are so fucking lazy at that particular store. I went in there about a month ago to get a game that was on sale. The DAY it went on sale (in the morning none the less) they had 0 copies available, nor any shelf signs indicating that the item was even on sale. I've had a ton of problems with that store in the past, and I've all but stopped shopping there.

Bring your DS/PSP and just sit in the front of the line until she helps you. Don't let her help anyone behind you until she finishes your transaction.

It was a price mistake. When you try to slip one by on the system sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
If they didn't have it in stock, then you can't expect a price match.

I'm complaining about the way it was handled. It had nothing to do with it being in stock or not. He told me that wasn't the version they were selling BEFORE HE CALLED.
How many times does it need be said?

I always feel like the employee is working their absolute hardest to not pricematch for you. I went to BB the day Pokemon released and the manager told me, "Who would we price match against? This is the first day it's available." I showed him my CC ad and he PM'd it for me then he told me, "That he could only do this special favor once since he's not obligated to match weekly sale items."
The next time I was at wal-mart and R6 vegas was on sale at BB. I couldn't find the ad in the paper up front so I showed it to them online. They said "We can't match online offers." I explained to them that it was indeed the weekly ad, merely posted online. Somehow they could not comprehend this and after every time I explained it to them they repeated, "Yeah but we can't match online ads." It took six of them to give it a go and each time they had their arms crossed like geniuses. Gee, I wonder why the work at Wal-Mart.

I'm guessing the guy didn't know what he was doing and just made up an excuse. You should've asked to talk to a manager.
From my experience, the managers at CC let most reasonable things fly.

The Best Buy you go to must be full up with asses. I PM Knights of the Nine at BB when CC had it for $7.99 while BB had it for $19.99. The clerk even told another employee that CC was kicking their ass that week when I was walking off. As a matter of fact I've never had a problem doing a PM at BB.

I've never had a problem price matching at Wal-Mart. Say what you wish about their "business ethics," at least the average employee doesn't care enough to argue against you.
So why do you care about CC more than BB? I don't see a whole lot of difference...IMO CC is worse when it comes to "bait and switch" tactics.

They kicked sand in my crotch right about the 'devil customer' time. It's a long story, but I got so much better customer service at CC.
I went to Wally World to try to PM, but sadly they don't carry it. I'm also going to choose to take my frustration over the FYE/DDD glitch on them, too. At least it makes me feel a little better.

You guys have actually had employees CALL other stores in order to check if an item is in stock or not? I guess I'm lucky with all my CC/BB/Wal-Marts... No one cares enough to actually take the time to call and check. I've price matched absolute absurd amounts before and the employees really don't care.
Lol I guess thats the benefit to living in a college town.

I think your problem is, you're assuming you got delibrately lied to... don't you think it's possible he genuinely believed the ad did advertise a different product than the one you wanted PM'd? Especially if he isn't familiar with Monty Python or the DVD releases in general.
He called after telling you it was a different prodct, becuase you said it wasn't. He had to triple-check... customers do that alot. I get that a lot at my work... "That's supposed to be on sale."
"No, that's X brand, this is Y brand."
"But it's on sale!"
"*get out ad* See? Ad says X brand."
"But the sign said this is on sale!"
*call someone to take customer and physically point out that sign says X brand and is 5 feet away from Y brand. Then get yelled at for not making the signs clear enough.*
Anyway... if something like this happens again, where you're 100% sure you're right... save everyone a ton of trouble and just ask for the manager. You know they'll call them to clear it anyway.
This is why I shop online.
Ditto, dude.

Check the Target ad for yourself, it's pretty clear they are advertising the EDE and not the SE. The packaging is different by a large gold border around the image.
If neocisco or demo man were to come here and tell me that there's an internal memo about it, I won't have any reason to be upset. I'll just think the guy is really slow at using the computer. But I'm pretty sure what I think he was doing is what was actually happening. I worked in retail for over ten years, I can tell when something isn't right, and an employee doesn't want to help the customer. I know, I've done it myself.
