Link doesn't work.
Anyway, I don't like the idea of games being exclusive to one retailer. At all.

I preordered 12.
I plan on selling them for $300 a piece when they go OOP and become rare.
Discuss that.

Exclusives limit competition. If I can't shop around for the best deal, I fell like I'm getting reamed.

This is completely stupid. I mean, if a retailer is gonna make a game exclusive, why don't they at least do it to a big name title. I've never even heard of this game, and I doubt many other DS owners have either, so it's not like there's gonna be a mad rush to the store to get this game.
The same thing that happened with Tenchu DS is gonna happen with this. The few people that actually want it are going to get it, and then no one else will, since the game will have zero exposure being exclusive to one retailer (Gamestop of all stores, which probably has the worst arranged shelves out of any game retailer).

Well, at least they didn't slap on the $5 premium like they usually do with DS games.
And yeah, what exactly is this game?

I wikied it last night and from what wikipedia says, the DS version of this games is a remake of "The Settlers 2" from the pc.

All the info you could want on the Settlers.
It's a remake of an old PC strategy game... it was very awesome.
Here is an old review of the PC version:

No interest in this game, but the idea of store exclusives is lame. Especially since I refuse to shop at Gamestop.

My guess is that it won't be all that good and won't sell all that well. If the publisher thought the game would sell well they wouldn't sell it exclusively through Gamestop, because they'd make more money from sales than from the money Gamestop gives them to make it an exclusive.

I think exclusives are good if done well. For example in a game that's primarily online, such as Guild Wars, they would have exclusives for certain stores if you pre-ordered in game. Which I think is a nice little addition so long as it doesn't wreck the game. Other than that, I agree.
The only other thing I have left to say is, fuck you Gamestop. Not that I was interested in the game to begin with.

It could be the publisher decided it was going to be a niche title or would get overlooked. Clearly, most people here had no idea what it was until they clicked on the thread, so this is one way of raising the visibility of a game that probably would have gotten ignored upon release.
Chulip and Taito Legends 2 (other EB/GS exclusives) were fine for their intended audiences. Tenchu DS, from all reports, was absolutely awful. Hopefully The Settlers will be more like the former.
Also, so far with EB/GS exclusives, they seem to order/create enough of them that they don't become teh rarez, at least not for awhile. There was enough Tenchu going around that even Gamefly couldn't give it away.

I have not problem with certain bonus things being exclusive. Whole games being exclusive is lame though.

I'm up in the air about buying the game. I usually only shop at gamestop if it's the absolutely ONLY place I can find a game. and I NEVER trade stuff in at gamestop, they rip you off royally.
I myself work at an independent gamestore that carries everything from atari 2600 & games to all the current stuff and I love it there. we guarantee more trade credit than gamestop and our used items are in great condition. after working there and shopping there, I can almost never step foot in a gamestop again.

I agree with your points, it's not that the publisher thought it wouldn't sell, it's also Gamestop giving them money to make it exclusive, to get the hardcore gamer to come in - Settlers appeals to that type of person. Why bother stocking it at Best Buy / Circuit City when the type of people who buys games there have no interest in it?
It was a fantastic game back in the day, and this should be a fantastic port - for those who don't want to go in the store, just order it online and use the code SAVER for free shipping, it's what I did for Taito Legends 2.
There was some interest in this game awhile ago on CAG, but I guess not so much anymore, which is a shame... it's also a shame most people have never played Settlers, ever.

I can't really figure out much about this game based on internet research, but it looks like a somewhat compelling strategy game. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the reviews, and hoping that they turn out well!

Just having picked up rise of nations, I'll pass. That and replaying starcraft are sating my RTS needs.
Just as a note, since it's a gamestop exclusive, espect it to show up around July. Fuckers.

It seems that most gamestop exclusives drop in price very quickly, but thats mostly because no one cares enough to buy them in mass quantity. Look at chulip its already down to 19.99 and each gamestop near me is reporting 4+ copies in stock on the store locator.
If you want to pick up a game that will become rare for ebay profits go for Radio Allergy for the gamecube, sold only online through amazon!

It just depends on the game, really. Tenchu DS didn't sell a whole bunch of copies, but it still goes for at least $24.99 at most stores. This game came out in August of last year (almost a full year ago), and it hasn't even dropped to half of its original price yet.

Just about the "never heard of":
I think I've read that "Serf City" is another name for the game (at least for first one) so perhaps some people remember is by that name.
Greets,
TCC
Still no CAG impression on this game?

Gamespot nuked it as well. Just as well, I suppose. Good releases recently.
Well both IGN and Gamespot wasn't so hot on Simcity DS either but I like that game.
