Okay, theres a 42" sony rear projection tv on craiglist for 450...but I am definitely going to try and talk him down to at least 400...anyway, I ask him ifs its HD compatable, he says no. Then I ask him how old it is, he says about 4 and he thinks it came out right before hd...(4 years old should be HD compatable) I then ask if it has componet inputs, he says yes .
If it has componet inputs and if its only 4 years old then wouldn't be capable of displaying an HD picture? Wouldn't a 360 of a hd dvr box work fine? Or is there an older version of componet inputs I just don't know about. I will get teh model and more specs sooon, but the guy was at work.
BTW say it is HD compatable, 4 years old, and in good condition...would 400 be too much. I am really going to try for 350.
Thanks again cags!

I really think it makes a lot more sense to get a smaller, much better TV rather than getting the one you're considering now. And no, having component inputs doesn't necessarily mean that the TV can do HD. If it says HD compatible and is 4 years old, then I'd think they mean 480p... which isn't too much of a jump from 480i... at least, not one that justifies spending $400 in this day and age. Get something better, even if the screen size is smaller.

stay away....seriously...you are so much better off buying a newer flat tv for around $800...42"plasma or lcds are dropping everyday , especially the 720p sets since 1080p are replacing them

I have an older Sony CRT that has component inputs. I don't think it even does 480p.

I wouldn't buy a projection TV if you paid me to buy it

I know somebody with a projection TV from that time. Its most likely an EDTV, with component inputs for 480p. It could also just be a standard TV with component inputs, those also exist.
I wouldn't pay a dime more than $300, and he'd have to deliver it. I just bought a 32" LCD HDTV for $400 shipped brand new, and I also own a couple 30" CRT HDTV's that cost $300 each. The only thing appealing about those old SDTV/EDTV projection TV's are size, and this one is only 42 inches. I could see the appeal in 50+ inches, but 42 isn't that big.

Outpost.com had that deal for memorial day weekend, shipping was $17 to the East coast, so $417 shipped. Unfortunately they sold out, but their CSR's say the deal may come back this weekend. If not, similar deals come around occasionally. Check the hot deals forum at sites like Fatwallet.com and slickdeals.net, they're usually very on top of that sort of thing. Though I ordered mine before the deal hit those sites, it helps to check out the sales at those kind of sites so you don't miss out when everyone and their mother orders one.
