Ok, so I need a new cell phone, mine is beat to hell and the reception is horrible. I have no idea which phone/service to get. That's where you guys come in! I basically just want something that I EASILY download free, or cheap polyphonic ring tones with from the web. I have VERY LITTLE interest in paying to use the service providers ringtones pages. So something that can download ringtones from around the web is a huge plus.
I'm kind of leaning towards Nextel, they are a bit pricey, but I hear their service is second to none. So does anyone with an i710 or i730 phone know if I can easily download ringtones from the web with it?
Verizon is my next choice, and I have no idea which phones are good for this from them, so can anyone with verizon service tell me which phones can easily download ringtones?
My old phone can't download anything, and I really don't wanna get stuck in the same position again. Also any other recomendations for phones that can download ring tones are appreciated as well, only other thing is the phone MUST be a flip phone. Hopefully some kind soul can help me out here, because I am clueless as to all this. I just know I don't wanna pay to download from my service provider.

I hate to bump this after only 2 hours, but I wanna get the phone tomorrow, so the sooner I find out which phones will do what I want the better. Someone has got to know if the i730/i710 phones will download ringtones, or know which phones will!

I have sprint. Their vision service for internet is awesome. I got a data cable that I hook to my laptop, and go online for free when Im on the road. There are sites you can get free ringtones from. www.pcspix.com www.3gcorrection.com Sprint also has the best phones IMO.

I've heard the ringtones have to be programed differently to work on sprint phones? Which is why most free sites don't have them. I got into this whole problem, when my friends Sprint phone, some Sanyo (i forget the model, but it's a little older, it does have a camera with a flash though, so it's not THAT old) refused to let me him get any ringtones other then through Sprint's PCS vision site.
Are you able to download most tones without using sprint's site? Also what phone do you have.

Unfortunately that hasn't been my expierance :(
My old samsung can't download anything, even though I pay for internet access with it. Lots of phones now seem to only work with the service providers ringtones, or it's pretty hit and miss with other sites.

That's why I was hoping someone here could help me out. It seems there is no real way of telling what works and what wasn't doesn't without actually talking to someone that's tried it.

He has the Sanyo 5300 (like me), either he is an idiot or his phone is broken, I download ringtones from everywhere I find them. I also use a Hitachi P300, and have no problems from downloading ringtones from other places.

I have a Verizon phone, and there is no way to download ringtones other than from their Get It Now service for money. It really sucks. The only way to get ringtones from the internet on a Verizon phone is by buying a cable, which isn't cheap. Also, different service providers are better by area. I don't know the Sacramento area, but maybe some other people here do. I'd consult with them.

The 5300 was replaced by the 8100. The 8100 is faster with pics and stuff, but no flash. I wold look into the wakie talkie ones, they are swwet, but still a little pricy. Sanyo is great, stay away from LG and most of the free ones. If you get sprint, let me know and you can say I referred you and we each get a $10 credit!!

Do you know how the 8100 is at all for downloading? I'll let you know if I go with sprint, that's what I have right now, but the service sucks though, although I'm pretty sure it's because of my phone (which is why I'm getting a new one) as opposed to the service.

I have an 8100, and its pretty good if you want to downlaod games, ringers(polyphonic/midi or QCPs), and pics. bad part is, is that you only have about 350 or so kb storage space.
i'm planning on leaving sprint tho, and going with my local cellular one and getting a motorola v600. Plus, my cousin is te supervisor, so id be able to get a deal.

Thanks for the responses so far! Right now only phones people have listed are the Sanyo 8100, Sanyo 5300 , and LG VX6000. Can anyone else that downloads a lot of tones helpe me out with more choices? Especially Verizon customers. I don't need free sites or anything like that, I'm just looking to find out which phones will let me download most ringtones without going through my service providers special service, like Vision, Get It Now, ect...
Also I'd especially like to hear from any motorola i710/i730 owners to see if their phones work with other websites.

Some phones are better than others, but it wont be that much better. 8100 is fine, I used one for a while, and had no problems. Seriously, go to www.pcspix.com and setup account, then download qualcomm's qcp program, and you can make you own rintones!

Well I did a LOT of searching and from what I gather, with Verizon you can only use their crappy get it now service to donwload stuff? Is this correct?
Also I've been reading that the Motorola i730 really blows.
So there goes my top 2 choices :( God I fucking hate cell phones, why can't my old Samsung a460 just let me download stuff. ARGGG very frusterating.
Sooooo I guess that leaves me with At&T and Sprint, no way in hell I'm touching T-mobile, or Boost. Can anyone help me out with good phones that let me download ringtones from either of those companies? Also how is AT&T's service? Especially in Sacramento? So far only Sprint phone is the one Big Nick recomended, the 8100.

I got the Nokia 3300 with ATT and Im loving it, its freaking awesome. I can download music from my computer, real music, and put it on my phone and use them as ringtones, like full real songs as my ringtone, also it plays as an MP3 player which is cool, very good phone IMO, ATT has the best service IMO, but I havent tried Nextel but they would be my second choice
