Lately I've been watching a lot of horror movies and wanted to know if any one had any good recommendations.

It can be American, Japanese, Korean etc.

Some movies I liked are The Hitcher, the Saw series, Battle Royale, Suicide Club and I just got Audition to watch for sometime soon.

Oxymoron. ;)

I was just going to say Audition, though.

I know.
Horror movies that have come out lately have been terrible to say the least.

Watch any of the ones I mentioned, but start with Oldboy.

I saw that Oldboy was the second movie in a trilogy.

Should I watch Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance first?

Oldboy
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance

Those are not horror films but rather thrillers

Oldboy is absolutely fucked up. Had no idea it was part of a trilogy.

I'll add High Tension, and basically anything Tartan Films puts out (imported stuff from Asia).

Should I watch Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance first? It's not necessary, no. They aren't directly connected or anything.

Check out some Fulci movies like Zombi 2. Maybe checkout Cannibal Holocaust, if you can find it.

Jacob's Ladder is pretty decent, and you can tell where it influenced Silent Hill in some respects. (Whether you consider it a horror movie is up to you, I guess.)

The Hellraiser series has some interesting moments, too.

Evil Dead
Evil Dead 2
Army of Darkness
The Reanimator
Halloween
Return of the Living Dead (sort of a horror comedy)
Dawn of the Dead

You mentioned liking The Hitcher. Was that the original or the remake? I haven't seen the remake, but the original was excellent.

Check out some Dario Argento films, Suspiria and Phenomena are both excellent. Profondo Rosso (aka Deep Red) is perhaps not a "Horror" film in the traditional sense, it's more of a who-dunnit, but there are a few good scares and it's a brilliant film IMO.

Also I'd reccomend the Wicker Man, again not a traditional Horror film but it's a classic, well worth seeing. Thats the original Wicker Man BTW, not the Nic Cage travesty, thats more a horrible film than a horror film.

I like:

Night of the Living Dead
Amityville Horror
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Halloween
The Exorcist

All of these are the originals and NOT the remakes.

Also, Blair Witch creeped me out when I first saw it, but that is a love it or hate it type movie.

You should check out The Changeling. It was one of the last good horror movies made before they became "gorefests".

In the Mouth of Madness had me all messed up when I left the theater. It is very unsettling.

I would add Pulse. Critics seemed to hate, but I thought it was a creepy good time. I saw the American version, not the Japanese one. I hear the JPN one is even better.

Pulse was lame. It was visually interesting, but not scary at all.

Slither was lamer than hell. It tried to be funny like the Evil Dead films, but just came off as stupid.

American Psycho was a good film, that shoots itself in the foot in the last act.

Oldboy is part of a trilogy in the sense A Fistful of Dollars, For A Few More Dollars, and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly were a trilogy. The stories don't anything to do with each except in the themes of revenge. The same actors are in all three films, except they all play varying roles.

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. I would suggest that you start by watching Lady Vegeance, Then Mr. Vengeance, and then Oldboy. I would absolutely call the Park Chan Wook trilogy horror because some of that shit is absolutely brutal and downright hard to watch. Lady Vengeance is probably the least brutal of the three, and that's why I say to start off with it, but never the less, each film progressively becomes harder to watch.

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is probably the hardest film I've ever had to watch. Each time I had to stop the film, gather myself, and then continue again.

The Blob (80's version)
The Thing
The Gate
Creepshow

Are all fun films. Not really scary, but they're not going to make you feel like you're getting stupider either (aka Slither). Grab a beer and some friends, and it will be a ton of fun.

Also Save The Green Planet is terribly overlooked. It's an amazing, amazing film that almost no one has seen and it's has a shame. Everyone should definitely check it out or at the very least find a torrent and download it.

Byung-Gu believes that Aliens live among human beings and that these extra-terrestrial life forms are the main reason behind society’s many problems as well as the misfortune in his personal life. However, finding the Aliens is quite a task since they look just like human beings. The most logical suspect at the moment is Kang Man-Shik, the president and CEO of a big chemical company. With the help of his beloved girlfriend, Byung-Gu they will kidnap the business man and try to make him confess that he is, in fact, an alien and then will try to convince him to let him contact the Prince. Will Byung-Gu have time to save humanity before the cops get to him?

Suspiria is a fantastic film, possibly one of the spookiest soundtracks for a horror film, not to mention the amazing cinematography in it. A true horror classic.

For recent films, I recommend the Descent. My favorite horror movie I watched last year.

One of my favorites is this little known, b-rate, straight to video horror film from 1992 called "The Resurrected".

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105242/

It's yet another adaption of HP Lovecraft's "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward" . Surprisingly its pretty well done and the only notable star is the lead actress that plays Ross' ex-wife on Friends. Anyway, there is an amazing scene that conveys the fear and anxiety of walking in complete darkness not knowing what is in front of you. I was quite surprise how involved I got into the movie during this scene, it takes a lot for a movie to scare me and for some reason this hit all the right buttons.

Wow, really? I didn't find it that hard to watch. I've definitely seen worse.

My favorites are usually the 80's horror movies like Freddy, Jason and Myers. I also like the Sleepaway Camp series. When it comes to modern day horror films, I thought that 2000 Maniacs wasn't too bad, both 3 Extremes movies were great. Most recently I watched Behind the Mask - The Rise of Leslie Vernon which was also very good.

I felt it was just a really cold, heartless film. It wasn't especially gory, but it was all levels of fucked up.

I'm not a big horror movie fan anymore, but I love Dog Soldiers. I guess its not really a traditional horror movie, but maybe that's why I like it.
