View Full Version : Help! My monitor is all kinds of messed up!

I bought a 19" widescreen LCD display a few days ago. Before I bought it (and it was used), I tried it out on my dad's computer. No problems, so I figure it's a sure thing. When I get home, however, the damn thing won't stop "flickering." It's pretty subtle, but it's all over the screen and it gets really irritating when I pull up a website with basic color palette (ala CAG). I've tried a different VGA cable, and it didn't do anything. I'm going to try hooking it up to a different computer as well, but I have a feeling it's the monitor. Is there anything I can do? Maybe something I'm not seeing in the settings? :bomb:

Could be the refresh rate, make sure thats set to the LCD's refresh rate. Also, make sure the resolution is set to the LCD's native resolution.

I have the resolution set correctly, and I also tried changing the refresh rate. It looked even worse at 75 Hhz, so I switched it back to 60 (or vice versa....). Anything else I should try?

If you're using VGA, try pressing the 'auto adjustments' button on the monitor.
I was thinking it's refresh rate too... there might be a chance that your graphics card doesn't support a refresh rate that the monitor likes though that's a long shot. What kind of graphics card is it?

On-board; I think it's like Intel Extreme 2.

Yeah, it might be a graphics card issue then.
Have you updated your drivers for the on board graphics?

I thought the title said "mother" instead of "monitor" the first time I read it :D

After about 30 minutes of looking, I can't find a driver update for the life of me. Do you know where I could find one?
EDIT:  Right after posting, I found the driver. However, it seems the one on Intel's website is an older version than the one I already have. Crap!

aaahahahah, I made the same mistake. "My mother is all kinds of messed up?" I had to read.
And yeah, SammyFez (can't use your CAG username anymore), I think it's probably your graphics card that's causing the problems rather than the monitor. The best solution is to check using another computer, as you suggested.
