So I watched Donnie Darko again last night with a friend who never saw it before, and he loved it. So I am curious on who has seen and what did they think?

It's a good movie - or at least it was good enough for me to purchase - but it makes no logical sense in the way it portrays time travel, which frustrates me somewhat.

yeah it can be frustrating, I have read some crazy ideas and theories to explain it all, Like frank is a messanger from god or other things like that.

I loved this movie- and Gary Jules cover version of Tears for Fears, "Mad World" is incredible.

They make "sense" but they aren't logical. Unless you consider there to be two alternate universes, one where the events of the movie follow through, and one where the events that would have followed from the events at the end.
As Mrs. Sparrow's book outlines it, time appears to be one dimensional, so this isn't feasible, in which case the storyline makes no sense.

the limited re release was a bad idea. at one point this made the top ten dvd sales list which is pretty incredible since it is mostly word of mouth. i bought it way back when it came out for like 27.99. now its 9.99 isnt it? it really was an incredible film, logic or not, and is sort of tarnished with its maddened cult following. its possibly the most brought up film i hear in movie conversations.

movie is great, but can someone explain it? I didn't know what was going on half the time

I thought it was mediocre. I watched it twice. The first time it did'nt make much sense to me. The second time I watched it I had just finished watching True Romance (Do'nt let the name fool you if you have not seen this flick, it's violent and captivating from start to finish) so DD fell so short of TR, it seemed to drag on and on. Maybe I'll give it another shot. I recorded it on DVD.

I don't think someone can stricly explain it.

The theory that seems to hold truest with me (though obviously I may be wrong), is if you think of the movie as kind of a reverse "It's a Wonderful Life." He sees how shity him being alive would make the rest of the world so he goes back in time and decides to die. There's my two cents.

But he couldn't have died unless he lived until October 31, because if it wasn't for his actions then the artifact would have never travelled back in time and killed him.

Believe me, I in no way think that the time travel for any theory makes sense, but I think the theory I outlined makes the movie the most 'complete.'

The ending is killer. Reminds me of that old Everclear song - "Swim out past the breakers, watch the world die..."
If you like Donnie Darko you should check out some David Lynch films. Trippy stuff, man...
why are you wearing that stupid human costume

If you watch some of the deleted scenes with commentary it is annoying. He says they left out some important plot points just to make it more mysterious (but you know they were told to shorten it up from the folks with the cash) The whole god aspect is pretty much left out.

I remember when it came out on dvd, my local blockbuster didn't have a single copy of the movie and the hollywood video only had one copy and it was on VHS. When the movie was still not on dvd I saw the movie poster at a poster place and thought the poster was so creepy. That's what got me interested in the movie. But yeah, it's really blown up since, and when they start selling hot topic T-shirts it knocks it's cool factor down a notch.
