Wasn't sure which forum to post this in, but may as well go here.

As posted on Kotaku and World of Monkey Island, some eye-meltingly cool new concept art has surfaced, done by the one and only Steve Purcell, Mr. Sam n' Max himself. One of the images features a pirate ship and a sea monster, and the other two feature ghost/zombie pirates, one of whom is, without any doubt, LeChuck.
Add to this a recent rumor that LucasArts execs have officially been bouncing around the idea of MI5 (no doubt FINALLY figuring out that they could capitalize on the success of the PotC franchise) and maybe, possibly, hopefully, FINALLY could be time to get excited.

Unless Shafer is involved, I'll be passing. Though, he did mention Double Fine had another project in the pipeline he couldn't discuss publicly. A joint venture between DF and LucasArts perhaps?

Yeah, I think having him on board would really legitimize it for a lot of folks. But the involvement of Purcell and "the guys who worked on the music compositions for the original PC classics" (which I assume includes God among men, Michael Land) is attraction enough for me right now.

You should not have posted this. If this rumour is false - or the game is not on par with the first three - the price will be your immortal soul.

I know its herecy, but I've like all 4 of the games so far. I've considered naming my first born guybrush.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger.

It's not heresy. I've always liked Curse (#3) the best (though LeChuck's Revenge is a close second). Even the most recent one, while seriously flawed, was not terrible. The music was great and there were some nice jokes and locales. But the story was pretty weak, and the last act was a huge let down.

To hell with this. I don't want today's LucasArts to make another Monkey Island, and there's no way LucasArts is smart enough to try and get Schaffer to work on it.

Yeah, I saw that a little while after I posted here. And I remember that story when it first broke.
But the art above has not been seen before, and while it may be completely unrelated to the MI5 via composers rumor, it's still pretty neat.
There's a reason the thread title is preceded by the word "RUMOR" and not the word "FACT." My hopes are up as much as yours. Maybe this time LucasArts won't disappoint us...Again.

Just a heads up... The artwork connection was never in the original rumor, and was pulled out of their ass by Kotaku, I believe. All the rumor says is that LucasArts is considering making a sequel to Monkey Island, yet the pre-production phase is not to start until 2008. In other words, the game itself won't materialize until at the very earliest 2010 or 2011. Don't hold your breath, unless you're the world champion of this sort of thing, but do keep ye olde fingers crossed.
Is it me, or is the "dead" adventure genre more alive today than ever? In the midst of magical looking indie titles (Vampyre, The Path), bad-ass fan projects (Zak McKracken 2: Beyond Time and Space), and oldschool people getting their revenge (Sam & Max: Season 1, Broken Sword IV: The Angel of Death), and unprecedented amount of DS adventures (need I list those?), I'm slowly beginning to not have enough time to play through all of them. I've never had that problem in early 90s. Of course, back then I didn't have a job and didn't have a portfolio to worry about.
