I informed you fellow CAG's a few days back about a SPOOF email from ebay requesting my CC number, billing address, and social security number, I clicked on the link and gave it to the fake ebay site. I relized it and canceled my CC within 2 mins. but now can they do anything with my social Security number? if so what? and what are the chances of them using it if I have NO CREDIT what so ever.
Pleas any help will be most appreaciated
Ouch, social secutiry number is yours for life. They can sign up for credit cards under your name now.

Exactly what all info did you give them? depending on what else they have, they may be able to do more with your SS#.

what are the chances of them doing this SINCE, hundereds of people complained about the same email, and responding to it. how can I prevent them from signing up without my approval?

Get into contact with your local state records dept.
I think there is a way to legally change your SS#. It probably will take a few months to do it if it is possible, so find out fast.

This may not apply to you, I didn't read all of it. it's worth a shot though.
EDIT: Found another site. This one says that changing it may not help as much as we think it will.

im curious. does this have anything to do with this: http://cheapassgamer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22774
if so, why did you give the information after so many people told you not to? and if you gave the info after waiting for a reply....why did you ask for anyone's advice
yes there are legal ways to get your ss number changed, but in the future NEVER go along with emails that tell you that you need to do anything like updating information. if you think it might be for real (99.9999% chance it isnt), then ALWAYS update it by going to www.ebay.com or www.paypal.com directly. never use links located in email.
also, i recommend you be careful when using internet explorer. since theres a bug that allows people to spoof an address, but in fact forwards you to a totally different address (usually a site that contains an ip address).
heres a test you can take:www.cheapassgamer.com (http://www.cheapassgamer.com%00@google.com). if the link brings you to cheapassgamer.com or says page cannot be displayed then you are safe. but if you can forwarded to google, then download this patch (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=be0c18bc-7f9a-4196-bfde-29eba8cf7a50&displaylang=en)

Inform the police of an SSN theft and tell your bank to look for anything suspicious, because that is their job, the only positive benefit of the patriot act.
